St. Louis stark black doom troupe The Lion's Daughter recently completed a video for “Swann.” Directed by Brain Cummings, produced by Adam Taylor, and with art direction by Josh Rowan, the strikingly grim eight-plus minute production is loosely centered around news stories of those mentally ill who havae been locked up and sentenced to death.
Elaborates vocalist/guitarist Rick Giordano, “Imagine trying to make sense of being kept in a cell by people who intend to kill you when you can’t even understand what it is you’ve done wrong. Working with Josh — who did the album artwork — and Brain, we wanted to try and capture this isolation and confusion as simply as possible by contrasting footage of a cold, dark enclosure with a free, wandering eye which is outside and unrestrained. Whether these images are dreams, memories, or a reality is left unclear, just as it might be in that person’s mind.”
Peer into the loneliness of “Swann" below, courtesy of Revolver.com. “Swann” comes by way of the The Lion's Daughter's latest long player, "A Black Sea," which finds the band in a joint collaboration with somber folk ensemble/fellow St. Louis inhabitants, Indian Blanket. More...

Doro will perform the march-in hymn for WBO title holder Marco Huck during his boxing fight on January 25th against challenger Firat Arslan.
Doro is a huge boxing fan herself, and best friend of female boxing legend Regina Halmich. On countless world championships, she was thrilled in the front row and was even standing in the ring herself in 2002 for celebrity boxing.
Doro comments: “I am so much looking forward to perform my hit single 'Raise Your Fist In The Air,' as a march-in hymn for world champion Marco Huck, as I am huge fan of boxing since my childhood. I saw many fights live, mostly of my good friend Regina Halmich, for who I was playing few times in the ring. 'Raise Your Fist In The Air' is the perfect song for a boxing fight, as it is about the fighting spirit, power and fists."

"In the beginning of 2009, Toxic Waltz was founded by lead guitarist Jimi and ex-drummer Tim. Bass guitar player Rahman, vocalist Angelo and rhythm guitarist Alex joined the band soon to form a thrash metal ensemble that is clearly affected by the U.S. Bay Area style (e.g. Exodus, Heathen, Forbidden), neither leaving out influences from other genres nor lacking recognition value.
"Toxic Waltz is delivering aggressive, but artistically demanding thrash metal, characterized by diversified songwriting. The band's unique style and live experience, originated with many smaller gigs, earned them bigger venues soon. Toxic Waltz has shared the stage with well-known bands like Six Feet Under, Alpha Tiger, and Debauchery. Now the band is fully ambitioned to reach the maximum success!" More...

Whispered has checked in with the following announcement about releasing a new album this year:
"This year begins with clanging of swords and whispers of the ancient spirits, since our new album 'Shogunate Macabre' will be released 07.02.2014!
"The album release date was originally postponed, since we were promised a bigger release through a major metal label, but in the last minutes they pulled their contract back with no apparent reason. That was very unprofessional and got us all pissed, but these things never get easier in the music industry so..
"The new album will be released 07.02.2014 through Scandinavia and several online stores worldwide and h ere's a lyric video for a track called 'Lady Of The Wind' from the new album! Enjoy!" More...

Dan Lilker of Brutal Truth has checked in with the following announcement about retiring from music:
"I regret to inform Brutal Truth fans that as of October 18th, 2014, I will be retiring from being a full time recording and touring musician.
"That date is my 50th birthday, so I chose it symbolically as a significant milestone to make such a weighty decision. As a lot of you know, I've been an active member of the metal scene since the early 80s with the thrash metal bands I've been in before the formation of Brutal Truth in 1990, and I'm simply just tired of the rigors of touring mostly.
"Unlike some of my peers from the 80's who went on to sell millions of records I have always been drawn to extreme underground metal. I don't care about staying in 5 star hotels and having a big cushy tour bus but I am getting tired of squeezing into a van for 8 hours after all these years on the road. I have always played what I believe in and that is been priority #1, but the time has come to have a little bit more stability in my life.
"Brutal Truth will still be active on the touring front until mid-October and will aim to do as much as we can in the next 9 months or so. After that, I will still have creative output with my 2 local bands in Rochester NY, Nokturnal Hellstorm and Blurring and do the occasional project tour, but yes, as of mid-October, Brutal Truth will no longer exist.
"I do realize that will be an extreme disappointment to all the grind freaks out there that have supported this band so rabidly all these years, and your enthusiasm will always have a special place in my heart, but I've made my decision, and I hope everyone can respect that." More...

"We are completely done recording and editing the album. Mixing & mastering process begins tomorrow!

Today the mighty GWAR announced the band is heading to the Land of the Rising Sun. After 28 years of relentless touring, recording and general mayhem, GWAR is finally playing Japan!
"A lot of people think we have played there already because of our album, Live at Mt. Fuji," said lead front-thing Oderus Urungus. "But that was in fact recorded in the future!"
After playing the gigantic Soundwave Festival in Australia, GWAR will travel north to play two exclusive shows in Japan, where legions of GWAR fans have been waiting patiently for years for their chance to die in the presence of their hulking metal overlords. Their wishes shall at last come true on Thursday, March 6th at Club Quattro in Osaka, Japan, and Friday, March 7th at Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo.
GWAR will bring a full show, featuring all the carnage, spew, and metallic mayhem that has enslaved legions of fans in North America and beyond. This of course means spontaneous beheadings and disembowelments shall be the order of the day, and a bloody attack by mutant cyborg Sawborg Destructo is sure to occur. More...

"We are honored to be a part of 2014's Warriors of Metal Fest VII. We've been in attendance at previous festivals and we've always had a great time at this event. Its the best metal festival Ohio has to offer and one of the recent highlights for us included seeing two legendary bands in Helstar and Manilla Road at the 2012 edition of this show because for both of them it was the first time they had played in Ohio since the early to mid 1980s!
And now to go from being patrons to performers shows what a young band can accomplish if it is supportive of its local and regional shows. We'll now be sharing the stage with so many bands from around the country and this will finally put us on a national scale. Be forewarned, we intend to be the heaviest band at Warriors of Metal Fest 2014." More...
