Therion Announces Three New Releases For 2014

In addition to a new Therion studio album planned for late 2014, on February 21st there will be two new releases coming up, the deluxe edition CD + DVD of "Theli," as well as a 3-DVD package (limited edition incl. bonus DVD) called "Adulruna Redivia And Beyond."

"Theli" was the fifth studio album of Therion, being released in August of 1996, which features two different choirs and Dan Swanö from Edge of Sanity as a gust singer.

The deluxe edition of "Theli" has three more bonus tracks: "In Rememberance," "Black Fairy," and the Scorpions cover "Fly To The Rainbow," as well as a bonus DVD with the entire album performed live.

On top there will be a double live DVD + bonus DVD, limited edition Digipak titled "Adulruna Redivia And Beyond," featuring two shows recorded live in Atlanta in 2011 and in Budapest 2007. The band comments:

“The concert recorded in Hungary was a concert on the 'Adulruna Rediviva' 20 year Anniversary-Tour in December. The idea of the tour was to play the entire Theli album + a set consisting of songs that the fans had voted for on the band web page. Piotr Wawrzeniuk and our old friend Messiah Marcolin joined in to make this evening extra special. The concert in Atlanta was the band‘s only show in the USA since 2007 and was shot during the band‘s headline performance at the ProgPower festival 2011." More...

Downfall Of Gaia Seeking New Drummer

More than a year has passed since Downfall of Gaia released Metal Blade debut “Suffocating In The Swarm Of Cranes." After tours of both the U.S. and Europe, Downfall of Gaia has offered the follwing update on the status of the band:

"With more than 100 shows played in 2013, last year was the most intense in the history of this band so far! Three European Tours, a full US Tour, several single shows and festivals! Memories we will keep for a long time.

"We are still remembering those hot days in desert of New Mexico, on the other side those freezing cold nights in St. Petersburg, Russia. Driving down old Route66 (by mistake) or getting arrested at the border in Finland! We are pretty thankful for all the possibilities, adventures and places we were able to discover in the last couple of months, thankful for all of the amazing people we met around the globe and the new friends we made!

"Unfortunately intense touring can also have it's bad and exhausting sides and people start to rethink about priorities in life. We also had our ups and downs and as a result of changing priorities we sadly have to announce that Hannes decided to leave the band and focus on other things in life! We respect his decision but we are also 100% willing to continue with a new drummer!

"We wish him all the best for his future. To keep things short – we are looking for a new drummer! If someone out there is serious about it - just drop us a line via booking@downfallofgaia.com and we will figure out the rest!

"Besides all of that, we are still looking forward to 2014 and some great plans that are in the making! Even with all of those circumstances - all planned shows will take place and no show will be cancelled! Feel free to spread the news and the word!"

You can also see the band live:

21-25/07/14 SI – Tolmin – Metal Days

Lionize Reveals Album Details

Lionize, the first independent artist to sign with Weathermaker Music (the label that has, up until now, served as the exclusive platform for Clutch and individual band member related side projects) has confirmed a February 18th, 2014 release date for new album "Jetpack Soundtrack."

The album features 11 new tracks and was jointly produced by Clutch drummer Jean-Paul Gaster and Machine (Lamb of God, King Crimson) at the Machine Shop in Belleville, New Jersey.

Pre-orders are available here and the "Reality Check" single can be heard below. The band will be hitting the road in support of the new album beginning January 10th for a string of headline dates before joining up as direct support for Pepper. Full details are available below. Sofy Major Documentary Clip Available

"Buckets, Curtains & More Noise," an in-depth video documentary released by French noise metal act Sofy Major, is now available and meshes interviews of the band members with footage captured during October 2011's massive Superstorm Sandy.

Check it out below, courtesy of Geargods.net. The following press release was also issued about the video:

"The decimating, record-setting hurricane inundating the East Coast US right as Sofy Major had migrated from the post-industrial badlands of Clermont-Ferrand, France to Brooklyn, New York to record their Idolize LP at Brooklyn's Translator Audio studios with Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Keelhaul, Cave In).

"Sandy razed the studio, flooding and ruining endless thousands of dollars of equipment, including everything the French trio had imported for the recording. Forging through it all, with the help of some remarkable friends, the sessions were quickly rescheduled at nearby locations, Idolize was recorded with extreme aggression, and the band's US tour carried on. This nearly twenty-five minute documentary showcases the band's entire incredible story of their struggle to keep spirits high and tells the heartfelt appreciation for their American cohorts and fans who helped them through and made the album a reality.

"Like a demented mesh of the Melvins slamming into High On Fire with undeniable noise/metal influences instigated by the likes of Unsane, Quicksand and Deadguy, Idolize encapsulates Sofy Major's intoxicating concoction of sludge riffage, stale beer, shattered dreams and perseverance. Listen to and purchase the entire bruising LP via Solar Flare Records here." More...

Culted Streams New Song

Blackened doomhounds Culted today crush all your hopes and dreams with "Transmittal," currently murking up the sound sphere at Pitchfork.com here.

The soul-suffocating anti-hymn comes courtesy of the band's "Oblique To All Paths" long player, scheduled for release via Relapse Records later this month.Comments Michael Klassen (guitar/bass/percussion/noise) of the track:

"'Transmittal' is like the title suggests, a song intended to transmit an experience to the listener. Initially, it may lull the mind with hypnotic effects and repetition perhaps blurring vision and numbing consciousness. But it awakens with a scream to spark a flame and illuminate the world with fire, while scorching the wings of angels to finally reveal the collapse and coldness of space to the listener."

The band's previously posted track "Illuminati" can also be heard over at this location.

Delayhead To Release New Album

Finland's Delayhead will release a second full-length album on February 28th 2014 titled ”Vol. 80%.” According to singer/guitarist Tuomas Saarinen, the band does not attempt to follow trends, but relies on its natural delivery instead, stating:

”We're not trying to send any particular message or anything. You either listen or don't. When we write songs, we try to create something we would like to listen to ourselves. Doing it any other way would be fooling ourselves and others. It's hypocritical to write songs that don't mean shit to yourself.”

Jørn Releases Three "Overload" Music Videos

Jørn (ex-MasterPlan) released three new music videos for the track "Overload," a song which appears on the latest album "Traveller" (available now via Frontier Records). The video consists of previously unreleased live footage. Three different edits were put together shortly after the release of the music video for "Traveller," but were never uploaded until now.

Jørn explains: "At the time we didn't see these videos as official music videos, since they were all based on live footage and live images. We thought they would be more suitable as bonus material in connection with a future compilation or as something extra on the next studio album. The original plan was to put together one video for 'Overload,' using the best footage from all the three versions to make the best possible result. I changed my mind and thought it would be a special treat for the fans to release them all as they are. I personally like 'Overload' a lot, it is one of my favorite Jorn songs, as it is a true massive rocker with a killer riff that hits you right in the face. Being such a great song it would be a shame to just 'sit' on the material, life is now and it deserves to be released."

Sonata Arctica Reveals Album Name, Cover Art

Sonata Arctica announced that the band's new album will be entitled "Pariah's Child" and the release date will be March 28th via Nuclear Blast Records. It is the band's eighth studio album and the follow up to their successful "Stones Grow Her Name" (see review here). More information, including the track listing, is expected soon.

The cover artwork for "Pariah's Child" can be viewed below. Vocalist Tony Kakko explains he thoughts behind the album title and the artwork like this: "As always it's pretty hard coming up with a name for the new baby. I tried to approach it from many angles; how this is our 8th album and how easy it would be to abuse that fact. All the symbolism of figure eight, eternity and so on. But that just did not feel right as it's been done so many times. Then I started to think how we'd in ways abandoned our 'totem animal,' the wolf and all what comes with the territory. As the music on the album is bowing more towards the 'old' Sonata, meaning more power metal style elements and wolves in many of the songs in one form or another, it was clear we need a wolf on the cover. An abandoned wolf. A pariah. Or Pariah's child, actually. The new generation to bring the old logo back."

Right after the release, Sonata Arctica will start touring again. Keyboard player Henrik "Henkka" Klingenberg left the following message: "It's been a while since we last toured Europe, so I'm very happy that we can announce our first tour with our new album. Since the album will be out in March 2014, we don't want to waste any time but will head out for a full European Tour. Our tour will start in Eindhoven, NL on April 10th, 2014. The whole band is really looking forward to playing some new songs for you and introduce our new bass player, Pasi, to all our fans. He's a monster live, you'll see. Check below for the tourdates and we'll see you in a few months!"

The tour dates are as follows:
