DevilDriver Checks In From The Road
Drummer John Boecklin of DevilDriver has checked in from the road with the following tour report:
"Touring has a great feeling this time around. Seen alot of friends from fear factory, unearth, killswitch, 36 crazy, anthrax, megadeth, as I lay dying, rise against, 3 inches of blood, malifece, slayer, Alice in? Chains. Basically you can tell what I'm getting at here, every show has a friend or a hero of mine and it fucking rules.
"Playing shows has also gotten a bit easier as well for me because I now use IN EARS for the first time ever. My feet are now more consistent then before cuz I can really hear what's going on now. Tomorrow we get to headline the second stage @ Graspop festival in Belgium. Dez is fucking pumped cuz Kiss headlines the main stage, one of his all time favorites.
"We also have been jamming the rough mixes this tour (Andy Sneap mixes in late July). It's got beef. It's interesting to me, it's not the fastest shit we have done, nor the slowest, just lots of groove. But to me, when people say 'it's got groove,' I think its a nice way of saying simple and boring these days. We wanted to avoid this. More...

Black Skies Comments On US Tour Dates
North Carolina doom metal band BLACK SKIES kick off their US tour today at The Smiling Moose in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Guitarist Kevin Clark comments of the band's pre-tour kick off show this past weekend before jumping in the van this morning, "We were only able to get in a handful of rehearsals before the show, but Tim has did a fantastic job of being prepared and it showed. Playing with two amazing bands, Hog and Caltrop, we felt a good bit of pressure to step it up... first show or not. The crowd was great... supportive, complimentary...they really seemed into both the new songs and especially with how well Tim's playing fits with the band. Being that this show was in our hometown, there were a good number of people there who've seen all the different incarnations of BLACK SKIES, and it was good to hear how many of them think this is the best yet. It might still be early, but we get that feeling, too. So, we're happy to have that first show behind us and are looking forward to getting several more under our belts over the next few weeks."

Megadeth Comments On Big Four Shows
Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine has checked in with the following statement about the band's "Big Four" tour dates:
"Droogies! So now that the Big Four dates have come and gone, I feel it is time to check-in, say, "Hello" and tell you what has been going on in my world. First off, when we left San Marcos and Mustaine Music Studios aka 'Vic's Garage,' we had no idea what to expect, other than the fact that we wanted to make a point; we wanted to make the other bands feel comfortable, we wanted the fans to all leave this momentous occasion feeling completely satiated, we wanted the guys in Metallica to know that we could be depended on to pull our share...
"I don't know if we delivered for everyone, but for the tens of thousands of people each night, and ultimately hundreds of thousands of fans over the entire run of the Big Four festivals (affectionately dubbed 'Sonisphere'), it seemed to me that the fans were finally able to put aside the silly stuff that the press has kept on life support for so many, many years. We did several round-table interviews with a member from each camp of the Big Four, and one thing that was a constant and that we all agreed on was that the press was the responsible parties for keeping the feuds alive.
"You heard it straight from our mouths; we are all at peace with one another, and we all are friends. End of story – or in other words, several shit magazines will now have to learn how to write real interviews, reviews, and features, instead of causing so much turmoil with us four, all in the spirit of selling their publications."

Syrach Issues Pre-Production Update
Norwegian doom metallers Syrach have checked in with the following update about the pre-production for new material:
"Last weekend we had Adam coming over the mountains from Oslo, and we started working on a pre-production of 4 brand new tracks. With little or no preparations, we had a certain pressure to get them right. Adam had never played the tracks before, and had to come up with the drum tracks and rehearse them. Also it had to be done close to perfect, since we recorded everything live in our rehearsal room. Luckily Adam, and the rest of us managed to get a few tracks right, and in the end we had all four tracks recorded even with some time to spare for some leads and some food...
"We were supposed to get the vocals done last week, but since mister ripper decided to spend the night fishing (without getting any ofcourse...) he had to call in sick and could not do any vocals at all. But fear nothing; he'll get it done this week, and the songs will sound great in the end!
"As of now, we are very satisfied with the outcome, as a demo. We'll probably not go into studio before 3-4 more songs are made, but we have plenty of material lying around, so hopefully it won't take too long. The pre-prod is about 40 minutes already, so we'll soon enough be ready for studio we hope. Doom on brothers and sisters, we salute you!"

Evil Army Comes Back To New Orleans
They may live in another state, but we New Orleanians love Evil Army as if they were our own. Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, the extremely brutal thrash-threesome is back from the grave and ready for action. Their first show in New Orleans this year was packed with their soldiers. The extreme summer heat in the small un-air-conditioned bar couldn’t stop the sweat-drenched, stinking legions from packing in to see what they’ve been waiting anxiously to see for almost a year. Charred Walls of the Damned Kicks off Tour
The biggest oddity of Charred Walls of the Damned’s first tour is they are playing smaller venues – bars and small theaters and the like. With the amount of experience and reputation this supergroup has (although admittedly half of the studio members aren’t on the road), it seems like they should be playing arenas and ampitheaters, or at least opening for big name headliners.
But as it stands, Charred Walls of the Damned kicked off their first ever tour in Chicago at the Empty Bottle. The Empty Bottle is the type of old school dive where the air feels sticky, not to mention the restroom floors. Thus, it is perfect for an old school traditional metal show. And suffice it to say there wasn’t anyone in the crowd that became a metal fan after hearing “Nothing Else Matters” in high school, and nobody was rocking the latest Hot Topic sampler on the way to the show either. The folks here were all metal-for-life types, even the young ones. More...
Wolverine Checks In From The Studio
Stefan Zell of Sweden's Wolverine has issued the following update about the band's progress in the studio:
"The title track, 'Communication Lost,' was recorded yesterday and it sounds great! It's a pretty heavy and epic track that surely will fit nicely in future set lists.
"Done for today... We laid down vocals for 'In the quiet of dawn,' a song that we wrote three or four years ago. It went down just perfect so we also had time to re-record the choruses for the song we started this whole vocal session with. Some of the band members weren't thrilled about the vocal approach on it but now it should definitely please everyone involved. Only three songs to go."
