Bonded By Blood Shoots New Music Video

Pomona, California thrashers Bonded By Blood have finished shooting a new music video in the lead-up to the release of their new album "Exiled To Earth." The video, which was filmed with director Dave Vorhes, is for the new song "Prototype: Death Machine" and sees Bonded By Blood gearing up as a group of rebels as they fight to reclaim planet Earth from the grasp of an alien race called The Crong.

Front man Jose Barrales discusses the video shoot: "Working with Dave Vorhes was a great experience. Coming into this shoot we didn't know what to expect, but I'm glad it turned out the way it did. First day we did a performance shoot, 2pm till 9pm straight, of Prototype: Death Machine. After listening so much I'm still not tired of the song.

"Second day was the storyline shoot, this was so fun. Dressing up in costumes and shooting aliens, what's not to love? This day was a long one, 6am to 11pm, but well worth it. Can't wait to see the final product, I'm sure it will be epic."

Angra Discusses New Single

Angra has posted the artwork for the upcoming "Arising Thunder" single, which can be viewed at this location. The single is off the band's new album "Aqua."

Angra guitarist Rafael Bittencourt commented on the single, "Arising Thunder is a strong, fast and captivating song. We didn’t want to choose the most commercial track. Our fans will certainly be impressed with its fury and speed that end up in one of the strongest refrains of our entire career. It describes clearly the water element cycles showing the tenuous line from the tempest to the calm."

Vocalist Edu Falaschi, who created the initial concept of the track, also stated: "This song was originally composed to be a ballad but along the process I realized that it would be better to change for a Power Metal style. Fortunately I was right and this new direction is the most correct to represent the heart of the Shakespeare story! It is violent, dramatic and vigorous in the first lines of 'The Tempest'! Arising Thunder sounds perfect to an epic start connected to the lyric by a vibrant way showing all the Prospero fury and vengeance wishes. I am sure that our fans will enjoy it and sing with us in our next tour."

Arch Enemy Comments On Upcoming Live Shows

Arch Enemy vocalist Angela Gossow has checked in with the following statement about the band's upcoming shows in the Maldives and Faroe Islands:

"This weekend we are playing two very remote and exotic places: Faroe Islands and the Maldives. Both places have not seen many international acts - In fact we are the first international metal band ever to play the Maldives. We are very curious about the fans and the atmosphere in both places!

"The geographical contrast between these two destinations couldn't be bigger. Faroe Islands (situated between Scotland and Iceland in the North Atlantic) are beautiful in their tristesse. Untamed and rough nature, grass covered rocky mountains.12 degrees Celsius. Cold. Rain. Thick fog and stormy winds. Landing at the airport felt more like a plane crash. The main stage suffered badly last night we hear. The bigger of the two stages stage died yesterday. They even lost one side of the P.A. into the sea. Yes, that's into the sea.

"This is their summer. Reminds me of a grey, windy autumn day in Sweden... A perfect place to write a metal album I'd say. The Maldives (a cluster of atolls in the Indian Ocean) will be hot, lush green, full of colourful flowers and scents and brimming with 'holiday flair'. We will soak up the sun and dance with the sharks but will most likely not write one sinister riff there. And we need a few of these as we are heading into the studio end of this year. Both shows will give us a lot of inspiration though to travel further and further with every touring cycle. We love exploring new places. Mainland India will come up next…soon! But for today it’s the G! Festival Faroe Islands and the coming weekend it is the Rockstorm Festival Maldives! Extreme Exotic Metal Apocalypse!’”

Megadeth Checks In With Road Report

Megadeth's production assistant Rikki has checked in from Moscow with the following road report:

"Here we are at the end of our European Summer Tour of 2010. Show day #2 from Moscow, Russia. 2 more shows and we'll happily be back on American soil. I have come down to the venue early today to enjoy the peace and quiet and get some work done before the band and crew arrive. I spent several years working for the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio, quite often being the first one in and the last one out. I can't describe the calming effect it has on me, being here so early and watching a building slowly come to life. It starts slow, by mid day, things are going at a fairly fast pace, then it's show time and everything's going at full power.

"The building is filled with sweaty, excited people and the energy is amazing. Then you frantically hurry to get your job finished so that the night is over and you sit back and review the day. The place smells disgusting, lots of sweat, beer, etc and you'd never want to walk around without boots on, through all of the mess. But the building starts to take that calm again. It gets quiet, but remnants of that energy remains for hours. While just another day to me, to some people in that room, that was the greatest night of their life. Or something that will stay in their memory for a long time.

"Contributing even in the smallest way, is something that has always made me happy and many years ago, I decided that I never wanted to do anything else. I'm truly blessed to be one of the few who knows what they want out of life and has the opportunity to actually do it. I'm even more blessed to be doing with such a wonderful group of people. Now if I could be fortunate enough to have a blackberry that works all the time, I'd be the luckiest girl on the planet. More...

Saviours Issues Tour Recap

California's Saviours has checked in with the following recap of recent tour dates and announcement about an upcoming U.S. tour:

"We've conquered Europe with our partners in crime Black Cobra and Weedeater. The tour was insane, the shows were great, we played a bunch of festivals and cool new places we hadn't been before, we got weird and it kicked ass. Many thanks to our fearless driver Brozak, Black Cobra, Weedeater, Avocado for booking the shit, Dominic and Division for doing press stuff and most importantly all the euromaniacs who came out a raged every night with us. It was simultaneously real and unreal, if that makes any sense.

"At the end of the tour we headed to Den Haag, Holland for a quick studio trip with Guy Tavares, who does the awesome Motorwolf label. Guy and engineer Hans tracked two new songs for us the old way- 16 track, 1" tape, no punch-ins, edits or automation. We recorded one new song and then a 21 minute 'alternate' version of it, which will be mixed to full heavy psychedelic fruition by Guy over the next month and eventually included on an upcoming EP.

"Our only full US tour this year is rapidly approaching. Ozzfest should be insane and debaucherous and we're super excited for it, whatever it may entail! We've announced some pre-fest dates and some off-dates from the tour as well and we will be headlining a few select US cities on the way back from the east coast after Ozzfest. A few more dates will be announced soon. A few more big announcements are coming soon. Thanks again for all the support, its been a fucking killer summer so far!" More...

Septicflesh Comments On Upcoming Album

Greece's Septicflesh has issued the following update about the band's upcoming album:

"The creation of the 10 songs that will appear on the next album of Greek daemons Septicflesh, is approaching the final stage. The musical result can be described as a great mass of emotional death. One of the dominant elements of the album is the use of the characteristic guitar melodies of the band in a more intense and dramatic way. In combination with the orchestral parts that will surpass everything else that the band has done in the past, the sound resembles to a funeral concerto. Actually, it appears that the whole atmosphere of the album is one step closer to the depths of Hades…

"Also, as actually Septicflesh is in the wider sense an artistic dark experiment, the nightmarish visual world of Seth Siro Anton that is part of this experiment is going to be expanded towards extremity in order to 'dress' fittingly the soundscapes and the new mysterious lyrical thematology.

"The recordings will take place in Athens (in Devasoundz studios owned by the band) and in Prague (again with the help of the Filmharmonic Orchestra and Choir of Prague under the direction of Christos Antoniou) from August until the mid of September 2010. The mix will take place in Sweden on October 2010. The band is looking forward to work for the first time with well known producer Peter Tagtgren."

Tombs Comments On Tour Changes

Brooklyn's Tombs has checked in with the following update about changes to the band's tour schedule:

"Just a heads up on some recent changes to the tour itinerary, we are not going to be able to play (in August) in Chicago or Philadelphia, the Chicago date has been moved to Normal, Il and the Philadelphia show currently is TBA and will be announced shortly. We apologize for the changes, hopefully the venue change is within driving distance for those that were planning on attending the previous show. We promise we will be making it up, we can't say right now why we can't play there in August, but I can promise you it is worth the wait (trust me).

"Also, the Show in Memphis has been moved to the Hi-Tone, so please plan accordingly... Lastly we have good news, hell, great news! We have been added onto the Goatwhore show in Cortlandt Manor NY @ Popeye's Pub, this is the last show of the Tombs/Planks tour and we could not be more pleased with who it is that we get to share it with."

The Rockstar Ramblings: The Power Ballads

Ever since Led Zeppelin released Stairway To Heaven, hard rock bands have showcased their sensitive spot through the power ballad. No genre exploited this format more than the eighties hair bands. A formula that started early: Release a heavy song, maybe two, and then release a ballad was a staple for the glam and spandex bands. This week we pay tribute to these songs. Despite a self imposed limit of one song per band, whittling down the list was a challenging. Let’s face it, no two top ten lists of this nature are ever the same. To assist, a sealed scorecard using lyrics, video presence, and longevity was used to determine the top ten power ballads. More...
