Interview
Jeff Loomis Explains "The Obsidian Conspiracy"
Seattle's long running metal phenomena Nevermore launched the latest full-length album "The Obsidian Conspiracy" on June 8th, 2010, which debuted at #125 on the Billboard top 200 chart. Prior to the album's release, guitarist Jeff Loomis spoke with me about the direction of the new album, the dark theme of the music, and his own projects outside of Nevermore.
Commenting on the change in musical style on this album, Loomis stated "I wanted the songs to be a little more catchy. Peter Wichers, the producer, was a very big part of helping me out with that to make the songs much more easy to listen to and take in. That’s the real difference to me. I think a lot of people are probably going to freak out a bit." Check out the whole chat below. More...

Futures End Issues Road Report
Guitarist Christian David Wentz of Futures End has issued the following road report about the band's trek to Texas:
"Well, after some airport and travel nightmares, we have arrived safely in the hot, muggy, rainy city of Houston. We Californians are spoiled by the fact that while it gets hot as hell up there, the air is dry. We were greeted at the airport by Freddy and our Manager/Agent Beth Mays and taken to get some Cajun food at a local pub. Jon Allen set to eating spicy crawfish and I think he is going to need some skin grafts due to having his face burned off by the spices.
"Steve Digiorgio had a prior engagement to play in Europe with Obituary for the past few weeks, so we had our old friend Larry Smith come fill in for him on this road trip. Larry stepped up to the plate and not only learned the monsterous bass parts that Stevie D recorded, but it seems he knows the songs better than the rest of the band!
"We are headed to our Secret Studio location to practice for a few hours before the show, then a good night's rest before the gig tomorrow night. Will keep you posted!"

King Of Asgard Reveals New Album Details
Swedish Viking/folk death metallers King Of Asgard have revealed the cover art and track listing for their upcoming debut album "Fi'mbulvintr," which is to be released August 16th via Metal Blade Records in Europe. The album artwork can be viewed here.
King of Asgard commented on the album: "Fi'mbulvintr is upon us! Fi'mbulvintr is upon Thee! The winter of three is near and with that comes the first born of King of Asgard. We are very pleased with what we've achieved in all aspects of this coming album. The whole production is really in the face, much thanks to Andy who easily understood us, getting the brutal and bombastic sound we wanted. Musically we're talking a blend of dark folk, death metal and so forth. Much reflected by our musical past. Straight forward, hard-hitting vs melody and settled melancholy.
"The lyrical approach comes mainly in ancestral portraits, Norse mythology, viking sagas and myths with the reflection of our personal ideals and touch. Three of them visited by guest Mr. Stefan Weinerhall. So this will surely be a package well worth to pick up. We hardly could have done this debut better, completed with the great artwork by Ola Larsson. It's cold, it's cold but we're heading home by the sounds that honour the Gods, by the sounds that trample the traitor! More...
Blood Revolt Streaming New Song Online
In cooperation with Invictus Productions, Metal Blade Records will release the debut Blood Revolt album "Indoctrine" on July 16th/19th in Europe (North America release will be handled by Profound Lore). Blood Revolt was formed by Primordial vocalist A.A. Nemtheanga, Revenge/Conquerer mastermind J. Read, and C. Ross from the now defunct Canadian extreme metal band Axis of Advance. Metal Blade Records has uploaded a song from the album, titled "Year Zero," which can be heard at this location.
Comments A.A. Nemtheanga: "In an age of compromise Blood Revolt is genuine rebellion. Pushing the boundaries of what is accepted in 'extreme' metal; Blood Revolt is metal with teeth, like it should be. Genuine violence and aggression mixed with the kind of very real and very dark subject matter that would make other bands heads spin. No cartoon imagery or fantastical pseudo religious hocus pocus, this is the sniper filing down the pin before picking off innocents, this is the suicide bombers sweaty greasy hand on the ignition, dead bodies piled in the politics of the mass grave. Unforgiving and unrelenting elitism."
The track listing for "Indoctrine" is as follows: More...

Jeroen Thesseling Discusses His Vegetarianism
Bassist Jeroen Thesseling of German technical death metal act Obscura was recently interview by Peta2 regarding his stance on vegetarianism. An excerpt from the interview follows:
Peta2: What prompted you to become vegetarian? Were there any bands, books, etc. that influenced your decision?
Jeroen: I decided to become a vegetarian about 16 years ago at that age when young people become aware and conscious of their decisions and the world in general, about life and what you want to stand for. Also some people around me were already vegetarian which stimulated me to make the same step. Moreover, I have great respect for nature and animals in general. The decision to never eat meat again was natural and logical.
Peta2: What are some of your favorite vegetarian foods?
Jeroen: I love Italian cuisine. For me it is the most tasteful food, with endless meatless possibilities; and best to enjoy with a glass (or bottle) of Italian red wine. I also like Indian food from time to time.More...

Joachim Luetke Discusses New Dimmu Borgir Album
The third of four portions of the new artwork for the as-yet-untitled Dimmu Borgir album has been uploaded to the band’s MySpace page.
When asked if there’s a connection between the image on the new album and the character from "Death Cult Armageddon," German artist Joachim Luetke responds: "The [older] character’s called The Wanderer. Now, in retrospective, I feel that he’s always been the prophet, the herald of an age to come. Now he’s roaming the world after mankind’s demise. He’s the last of his kind. Neither human nor god – the perfect link to the age of the elder gods.”
Luetke’s artwork and layout art also appeared in the earlier album's "In Sorte Diaboli" and "Death Cult Armageddon." Dimmu Borgir's ninth studio album will be released in Germany on September 24th, in the rest of Europe on September 27th, and in North America on October 12th.
Angelus Apatrida's New Album Enters The Charts
Spanish thrash metallers Angelus Apatrida, who have just released their Century Media Records debut album “Clockwork” all over Europe, have cracked the official Spanish album charts by entering on #44.
The band commented on breaching the charts: "We are really excited about the entry of 'Clockwork' into the Spanish charts. It's fucking great to be the only representative metal band in the Spanish charts and go directly over those crappy pop musicians of our country. It’s the first time in history that a Spanish thrash metal band enters so high in the first week of release, so we are very proud of this album and this means a lot for us. Fuck yes!"
Angelus Apatrida will be touring Europe with Skeletonwitch and label mates Warbringer in August/September 2010. The currently confirmed dates are as follows: More...

DuskMachine Issues Band Update
Germany's DuskMachine has checked in with the following update about the band's activity:
"It's been a while since the last update, but due to several reasons - and really important ones. First off all, we had to move out of our studio/rehearsal place which I owned for 13 years. This was major stress, because when you own a studio for such a long time, you bring a lot of shit in there - and all of it had to go out! A pain in the ass, just because of lacking toleranc . So fucking what.
"This kept us busy now for the last 6 months, but we finally found a new room which allows us to continue like before, meaning having the possibility to have a rehearsal place AND a studio at the same time. A little smaller, but anyway great to go back to business soon. Of course we'll have to move in first, which means more work. The other reason - as you might guess by reading the headlines - is that we have a new singer again. No, we don't like to switch singers every 2 years - it just happens! More...

Devanic Announces New Guitar Player
Austrian metallers Devanic have issued the following brief update about recruiting an new guitar player: "As announced; the line-up is complete again. Bernd has joined Devanic and with him a new era begins. Welcome Bernd, and also visit his myspace! Keep it metal, stay Devanic!"
Bernd also commented on joining the band, "I'm proud to be the new lead guitarist of Devanic. After a few months together with the band I'm officially a complete member and I'm currently writing on my first leads and soli. My way through music so far included much experience with other bands and I'm still a part of a few (Bled Dry, Pereat, Darkside). The goal in my part of this band is to reinforce the melodic structure of the songs AND to include some 'insane' technique. I cant wait to see what the future will bring together with this great band and I'm looking forward to play the first shows and to the recording of the new album."
