Kings Destroy Posts "Old Yeller" Video

Brooklyn’s stoner/doom rock group kings Destroy has launched the band's first music video for the song "Old Yeller," which can be viewed below. “Old Yeller” comes from the band’s self-released debut 7-inch EP.

"’Old Yeller’ was a collaboration between a filmmaker friend of ours named Dave Danesh, and Morgan Nichols,” explains vocalist Steve Murphy. “The idea surrounding it is pretty self-explanatory and goes hand-in-hand with the lyrics. The song is about how the media has been bought off by the US government, and therefore lost its way in terms of protecting our democracy as the fourth check and balance. So grab a nice cold PBR and hail the demise of our glorious nation.”

October Tide Announces New Album Details

Candlelight Records has confirmed September 28th as the North American release date for "A Thin Shell," the new album from Sweden’s October Tide. Currently featuring guitarist/founder Fredrik Norrman (Katatonia), vocalist Tobias Netzell, drummer Robin Bergh, and session bassist Jonas Kjellgren (Scar Symmetry, Carnal Forge), the album is the band’s first in ten years and follows the 2009 reissue of their debut, "Rain Without End."

"A Thin Shell" was mixed and mastered at Black Lounge Studios in Sweden and features artwork from American photographer/graphic designer Travis Smith. "I have wanted to get October Tide back together for some time,” reveals Norrman. “When we decided the time was right, ideas for new songs surprisingly came together nicely. Many sleepless nights were involved, with lots of coffee of course, but the songs were written in flow one after another.”

Discussing the recording process Norrman notes, “we started recording in March of last year. Jonas (Kjellgren) liked what he heard and offered to get it into the (Black Lounge) studio’s schedule even though we didn’t have a label yet. What was meant as a side project so long ago is now my main project and I am very proud of it. We only hope people enjoy it as much as we do.” More...

The vinyl version of OTSOM has been delayed due to label issues (the double LP will be a split release with labels to be announced soon) and will not be out till fall at the earliest. I'm sorry to the folks who are eager for this record, and believe me, this album finally being out is of the most importance in my musical endeavors, but at this time my hands are tied. More Bands Announced For Damnation Festival

Damnation Festival veterans Anaal Nathrakh will return to lay waste to Leeds this year for the sixth installment of the UK festival. They'll be joined by French experimental duo Alcest, the synth driven mathcore of Rolo Tomassi, and Fukpig, who make their Damnation debut after a performance at Deathfest earlier this year. The latest additions join the already confirmed The Dillinger Escape Plan and reformed Earthtone9 with many more bands to be announced across three stages.

Festival director Gavin McInally commented: "No band - not even the mighty Carcass - has been requested to return to Damnation Festival by the fans as often as Anaal Nathrakh so it's a pleasure, and a relief, to be able to make that happen. In contrast to the aural chaos of Nathrakh, Alcest will bring a touch of French sophistication to proceedings with their haunting, black metal inspired shoegaze. Rolo Tomassi are one of the rising stars of the current UK metal scene and it's great to be able to host their energetic live show this year. As for Fukpig, well the devastation at Deathfest is responsible for their return!"

Archspire Checks In With Band Update

British Columbia based death metal act Archspire has checked in with the following update about the band's activity:

"June was a great month for Archspire, we got to play at The Biltmore Cabaret with a bunch of wicked bands. Mother Died Today put on a very, very awesome last show, which I'm quite saddened about. They were extremely impressive to watch live, and I took special note of the drummer of the band, he was absolutely amazing. First Reign came out also, and I'm good friends with all those guys, so it was awesome to share the stage with them once again. If you aren't familiar with their stuff, go check it out!. Lastly, we had the great Woods Of Ypres headline the show! Interesting blend of black metal with elements of other genres, I enjoyed watching them play, and I'm glad we (hopefully) put on a good opening show for them. So thanks to all those that came out, we have videos of all of our shows so far, and would like to throw some content up in the future perhaps, and for all those that took pictures, we'd love to get in contact with you!

"Well, July is looking pretty exciting for Archspire. We have 7 confirmed dates, 6 of which will be part of our very first mini tour! We will be heading from Vancouver to Kelowna, Prince George, and then hitting Alberta briefly before heading back home. We'll see how it goes, and we will definitely be setting up longer tours in the future. Our kickoff is at Funky Winkerbeans on the 15th, with some very wicked bands, Nylithia and Fenrir's Thirst. The FB group for the kick off show is here. More...

"I was planning on taking some time off after the continual waves of touring that ended last fall and spend this year experimenting around with what would become How To Destroy Angels and some new NIN. Well, that plan didn't work out so well. David Fincher started inquiring about my interest in scoring his upcoming film, The Social Network. Yeah, the movie about the founding of Facebook. I've always loved David's work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned. Atticus Ross and I have been on a creative roll so I asked him if he wanted to work on this with me and we signed on.

"Months later, I'm happy to tell you we're nearing the completion of this and I couldn't be happier with how it's turned out. The level of excellence that David operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable.

"As Atticus and I near the end of the scoring process, we're looking forward to the next phase - distilling the large amount of music we've written for this down to a satisfying record (or two). The film opens Oct 1 in the US with the record likely available a couple of weeks ahead of that.

"Speaking of the film... it's really fucking good. And dark!"

Metallica Announces Concert In Christchurch

American heavy metal veterans Metallica has announced that they have added a show in Christchurch, New Zealand to their tour of the down under this September. A message from the band reads as follows:

"You asked (okay, demanded!) and we heard ya. When we got wind of the massive petitions for us to come to Christchurch, New Zealand we just had to check it out . . . and wow, the number of requests were overwhelming! So, the moral of the story is to be careful what you wish for . . . because 'Tallica is coming to your town on September 22 at CBS Canterbury Arena!

"Now here's the catch - our production team scoped it out over the last couple of weeks and no matter how hard we tried to re-configure it, the bottom line is the CBS Canterbury Arena is just not equipped to handle the in the round "Death Magnetic" show that we've been carting around the world on this tour. That's not going to stop us, but we wanted to let you know that we will not be able to bring the full set up that you may have seen in photos on the site or will see if you happen to hit another show in New Zealand or Australia. It's gonna be us and YOU old-school "club style" in an arena making a whole lot of noise together, and that's what counts.

"Tickets go on sale July 15 at 9:00 AM with the MyTKT pre-sale starting July 13 at noon. Fan Club members should check www.metclub.com for information about a special pre-sale for them starting on July 9.

"Thanks for all the love and support . . . see you in September!" More...

Exmortem Calls It A Day

Martin Thim, guitarist of Danish metal outfit Exmortem, has announced that he has decided to disband the group, citing a lack of motivation. A message from Thim reads as follows:

"Exmortem have been one of the leading acts in the Danish metal scene for many years and set the bar high with albums like Berzerker Legions and latest Funeral Phantoms.

"Our last album Funeral Phantoms is also viewed as the band's absolutely best release and we are proud to leave on the top of our career. With Funeral Phantoms we reached what we have always aimed for, so now it's time for something new.

"I'm also extremely proud to look back and be able to say that we never repeated ourselves, each album has it's own sound and atmosphere, no album is alike. That is very satisfying as an artist!! More...
