Melechesh Announces New Album Details

Melechesh has set "The Epigenesis" as the title of the band's fifth album, due later in the year through Nuclear Blast Records. The 11 song release was recorded in the Babajim Studios in Istanbul, Turkey and was mixed by Reuben de Lautour and mastered by Pieter Snapper.

Front man Ashmedi stated: "As I have mentioned earlier, we wanted to defy the norm and record eastwards rather than remain in Europe. This was mainly due to the inspiring surrounding we found in Istanbul as well as the high quality of the studio and gracious staff. This city is a mesh of east and west and had a very long tradition of rock music. The Epigenesis is the result of two months of grueling work and very long hours.

"We took a risk and it paid off; the outcome is phenomenal! The production is very dynamic and big! The album is definitely Melechesh and as always unlike its predecessors and we as a band are exactly where we want to be at this point in time. There are several moods on the album, from very aggressive raw songs with minimal riffs to ritualistic near eastern metal opuses, one of which is a 12-minute song that combines Mid-Eastern music, psychedelic rock and metal. On one third of the album we have used 12-string electric guitars for the main rhythm riffing. We have included two instrumental compositions with completely different moods as well. More...

Although many previous metal additions to the network have leaned more towards the rock and metalcore end, this week sees some honest-to-Satan real extreme metal. So pull out those drum pads and warm up your vocal chords, because it's time to convince your neighbors hell has spilled onto Earth with live versions of Emperor's "Curse You All Men!" and "Inno a Satana" (although I can't imagine the bass player will be doing much).

Evocation Issues Studio Update

Swedish death metal band EVOCATION are currently working on their new album. The band has finished the recordings a few weeks ago. Guitarist Marko comments about the recordings shortly before Thomas did his vocals:

“Everything was progressing just as we planned! For the drums we had some amazing help this time – Roberto Laghi (Producer for In Flames etc.). And the result - well to be honest I haven’t ever heard such an amazing drum sound… Prepare to be blown away… Same goes for the guitars and the bass as well – the sound has progressed and is more evil than ever! Next up to get to work is Thomas (vocals). After having heard his ideas for the vocal patterns together with the songs we all feel very confident that this album will become by far our strongest achievement up to date. It might sound like a cliché but trust me and wait until the album is released…”

At the moment the band is busy mixing and mastering the material. "Apocalyptic" will be released in late October/early November. More...

Locusta Issues Road Report

Ohio progressive black/death metallers LOCUSTA, who regrettably had to skip the entire first week of their US tour with Tennessee black/doom bands Argentinum Astrum due to vehicular trouble, have issued the following update from the road:

Guitarist Dru Silver commented, "Unfortunately, due to van trouble we had to scrap the first week of our tour; we had the (dis)pleasure of breaking down in a dry county in Kentucky for three days, and with the added financial stress of automotive repairs it was next to impossible to go on as planned. Fortunately for us they were mostly regional dates, however we apologize to anyone that was planning on attending any of those shows on either band's behalf. We shall return...

"In other news, we've been immensely enjoying the natural wonders that the western frontier has to offer-- particularly Massacre Rocks/Craters of the moon in Idaho -- and have been getting along great with the folks in Argentinum... practically peas in a pod. The reception has been good so far, and we can't wait for what else this side of the country has to offer! Many thanks to those that have aided us in our journey so far." More...

Rusted Dawn Calling It Quits

New Brunswick’s RUSTED DAWN have announced that they are disbanding. Lead singer and Vocalist Jeremy Goddard sends the following message to all their fans:

"Hey dudes, Jerm Warfare here with some news for ya... not of the 'good' variety. Sorry folks, but Rusted Dawn are gonna be hanging up the gloves and moving on. We've had a great run, and as they say, 'all good things are probably bad for you'. The reason? Well, we've got a whole smorgasbord of things on our plate, but to keep it short and sweet, We're calling it quits due to some personal issues, mutual dissatisfaction, and musical interests that continue to branch out in ways that aren't necessarily the speed metal RD was delivering. I'm sure you can expect more tunes from all the dudes at some point or another, but not under the Rusted Dawn moniker.

"And with that, we'll be playing our last gigs in August alongside our bros in the Cancer Bats and Iron Giant, and I can't possibly think of a better sendoff. We had a couple shows lined up at the end of July, but had to call them off because we wanna be extra ready to destroy your faces for the last time together. And, in another shocking development, a certain french tickler will be gracing us with his presence! Our buddy Luke Vautour gonna be sitting behind the kit again for these last gigs with us, so be thankful there will be at least one shorthair on stage!"

"Lastly, I wanna thank everyone who's ever came to see us, bought a record/shirt/whatever, given us some food and a floor to sleep on, or given a shit about us in any way whatsoever, especially our loyal 'bangers throughout ol' New Brunswick and the rest of the Maritimes, as well as any band we've ever played with, and any promoters who've helped us out, not to mention Josh and D5th. This list could literally go on forever, so I'll end it here by thanking you. Adios."

The Rockstar Ramblings: The 80’s Album Razor Test

This week I give you my top albums from the eighties hair bands. Essentially a top twenty-five list, with a twist; imagine all of the albums from the eighties disappeared and you could no longer listen to this genre ever again, similar to 1992, but permanent. Unable to own the music, hear the music on the radio, or even listen to a song at a bar…what would you do to change this? Allow me to present the razor blade test. How many times will you cut yourself to bring a particular album back to your life? More...
