Nergal's Illness Confirmed to be Leukemia
Behemoth frontman and lead guitarist Nergal's illness has been confirmed to be leukemia. According to the Polish news site TVP, the disease has advanced to the point where chemotherapy can no longer be an effective treatment and can only be cured through a bone marrow transplant.
Within the country of Poland, there are only 100,000 donors out of a population of 38,192,000. Nergal's fiance Doda has already donated her bone marrow but it's unknown if her bone marrow will provide a DNA match.
Other Polish artists are currently organizing concerts to help raise awareness of Nergal's condition although no artists or concert dates have as yet been announced.
Nergal is currently undergoing a multi-stage, months-long treatment at Gdansk Medical University Hospital and all Behemoth tour dates indefinitely canceled for the foreseeable future.

Unearthing The Metal Underground In Vancouver
Each week in "Unearthing the Metal Underground," we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. This week I am showcasing Vancouver, Canada’s stellar underground death metal scene, the same city that gave birth to internationally recognized acts such as 3 Inches of Blood, Strapping Young Lad and Bison B.C to name a few. Vancouver though is one city that always has a long list of talented young bands that can easily become metal’s next big discovery.
Death metal and its variances have always been the most dominating metal genre in Vancouver. With quite a few venues catering specifically to the underground metal niche its easy for young bands to flourish. Even with the closure/re-modelling of some of Vancouver’s most iconic metal venues (The Cobalt R.I.P, Pub 340) the underground metal scene refuses to die and becomes bigger each and every year.
Malice Plagued
First up is Malice Plagued. Quite possibly the most under-rated metal band going in Vancouver today, Malice Plagued is known for their unrelenting dedication to their music and their live performances. With a wide range of influences coming from acts like Rush, Black Sabbath, Testament, Megadeth, Iron Maiden and Death, Malice Plagued has crafted a death-thrash hybrid sound unique to themselves, which is what keeps Vancouver crowds coming back for more after every show. Vocalist/guitarist Kyle Pepin knows what it means to be a proper front-man and can command audiences, shred and perform his distinct vocal style with effortless precision. The band is rounded out by drummer Lance Powell and bassist Kyle Smedley. This three piece death-thrash unit is one to keep an eye on and will surely be turning heads in the metal scene for years to come and should be the next Vancouver metal act to be breaking out to an international audience.

Hail Of Bullets Streaming New Song
Dutch death metal act Hail of Bullets has launched the first song off the band's upcoming new album "On Divine Winds." The new track "Operation Z" can be heard at the Hail of Bullets MySpace page.
Drummer Ed Warby comments on the song: "On December 7th of 1941 Japan launched Operation Z, a bold surprise attack on the United States which came as such a shock that Roosevelt referred to it as 'a date which will live in infamy.' It is no coincidence then that we chose to cover this event in the crushing opening track of our upcoming album 'On Divine Winds.' Experience the carnage as hundreds of planes descend from the sky to bring death and destruction, and revel in the aural massacre we unleash upon your ears and necks! Banzai!”
Singer Martin van Drunen also commented on the concept of the album: "This time Hail of Bullets takes on the Pacific War. The expansion of the Empire of Japan throughout Asia, introducing a full scale war using all forces combined. The massive strike back of the Americans, whose marines bravely fought many tough and bloody battles on now forgotten insulate islands spread throughout the whole Pacific. This led to desperate Japanese defense tactics such as Kamikaze, human bullets and suicidal Banzai charges. Until finally, incendiary bombings brought the empire to its knees." More...

Vintage Flesh Finishes Recording Sessions
New Hampshire black metal act Vintage Flesh has checked in with the following update about finishing the recording of a new album:
"I awoke this morning on what is the day after completion. My feelings on this day are something of a mystery to me. Feel drained but purged of all that had tormented me this entire summer. It seems as far back as the day we had begun this latest task, I had begun to experience a certain uneasey feeling. Today is the first day i can finally say to a large degree this feeling has been lifted.
"The demons have been exorcised and dealt with accordingly. All is recorded! The beast that dwelled with in us have been drawn out from the fire pits to be contained and confined on tape. May that precious tape see its way to mass CD Production! The experiences of the paranormal throughout this trying process have been subtle but many for all involved. I now have a sense of clarity and peace and it is not all derived from within. Much of it seems conveyed to me by out side forces that have been with us through out. This recording made a change in me and it will be some time yet before i can say what form this change has taken. Yesterday was the longest day of recording. Lets just say i returned home that night at three thirty in the morning. The hour of the night gaunts! Bizarre but though my girl was left wondering and wasn't very thrilled with me.
"It was a particularly drizzly and overcast day. Perfectly miserable day to end it on! Me and mat mostly worked alone. Hex appeared briefly but found it much to tedious a process to sit in on. What ever final doodlings he had in mind to do was left undone as he chose to leave very early in the day. It must not have been very important. We had no weed, and it was for the best. Shit kills my vocals and my stamina. More...

It is anticipated that for the time being at least, Oslo-based Christina will take on the role of live session bass player.
"Due to the very strictly enforced age limits in clubs and venues, HITS for KIDZ is one of the rare opportunities for the younger Norwegian metal fans to attend a live concert. With no age limit, HITS for KIDZ, which is being held at the Garage venue, has become an extremely popular part of Hole in the Sky, attracting audiences of all ages. Aside from Gravdal, this year’s event will also feature sets from Norway’s Hellish Outcast and Germany’s Secrets of the Moon."

Zombie and Ozzy "All Good"
Rob Zombie recently updated his MySpace blog with a statement about the situation between him and Ozzy Osbourne:
"I am very happy to put this Zombie vs Ozzy crap to rest. I just got off the phone with Ozzy and all is good with us. I have known Ozzy and Sharon for many years and have never had any problems with them. In fact they have always been very cool and easy to deal with. So, needless to say I found this whole situation very strange and a real bummer. This whole thing was really always between my band and a certain ex-drummer not between me and Ozzy. I wish Ozzy nothing but the best. End of story."
