Kataklysm Comments On Ozzfest 2010 Experience

Montreal based extreme metallers KATAKLYSM recently wrapped up their first ever run of Ozzfest tour dates. Vocalist Maurizio Iacono recently commented on the band's experience playing the U.S.’ biggest traveling metal festival:

"We didn't know what to expect going into Ozzfest. Already being invited was an amazing moment for us but we did our thing and it was monstrous! Kids were going crazy and we couldn’t have been more happy. I don’t know why it took over 15 years for someone to give us a real chance here but I want to give a big thank you to John Fenton, Sharon Osborne and everyone from Ozzfest camp for this opportunity. We stood strong and made loads of new fans! Now we’re going to continue on our quest across the US with DEVILDRIVER and KITTIE for the next three weeks. Hope to see all you fuckers out there! Heaven's Venom just came out yesterday in America so go get it and come check us out live. The new tracks are shredding!"

"Heaven’s Venom" was released on August 13th in Europe and August 24th in North America. The follow-up to 2008’s "Prevail" was recorded by KATAKLYSM guitarist J-F Dagenais (MALEVOLENT CREATION, MISERY INDEX) and was mixed by Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, MNEMIC, DARK TRANQUILLITY).

Virgin Steele Gives New Studio Update

Virgin Steele's David DeFeis has sent over another exclusive studio update from the recording sessions for the band's new album, "The Black Light Bacchanalia."

I am about a day or two away from completing all the keyboard tracks, and we are also deep into recording the guitars and vocals. Edward as usual is playing 6 string guitars, and Josh is handling the 7 string guitars. We completed all the guitars on Necropolis (He Answers Them With Death), one or two evenings ago, and now we are completing TO CROWN THEM WITH HALOS. This is a mammoth track...clocking in at around 11 minutes. It is unlike anything we have ever released. The entire album is taking on an Epic quality, and is highly aggressive, but even when aggressive, it is still highly musical. There is great beauty combined with the heaviness...If you hear the keyboard parts by themselves, you might think that this is a film score, but combined with the drums and guitars and all the rest, it becomes something entirely different. I personally am getting more & more excited and into the album every Day & Night. Those journalists who have heard a few bits & pieces are all responding quite favorably. I believe that it will be a very important album for us...

Metallica Comments On "Big Four" DVD Release

Metallica has issued the following statement about the "Big Four" show in Bulgaria being released on DVD:

"From Bulgaria to your local theatre to your living room or wherever you might enjoy a little live metal on the screen. You may have heard us say something about a DVD at the end of the satellite broadcast or read it in the internet rumor mill. it's true, there will be a DVD release of the Big 4 show from Sofia, Bulgaria!! We had such an awesome time hanging with Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer and the cameras were already rolling, so why not?

"Here's the scoop: The DVD hits the streets on October 15 in Northern Europe, October 18 in most of the rest of the world, October 19 in North America and the full shows from all four bands will be included in the two disc set along with behind the scenes and interview footage. In addition to the two DVD set and the corresponding Blu-ray, there will be a limited edition 'super deluxe' box set including the DVD set, five CD's with ALL the music, a 24 page booklet, a poster, photos of each band, and a Big 4 guitar pick. The clever title of the DVD is 'The Big 4 Live From Sofia, Bulgaria' (yes, that's really it!!) and you if you're interested in the box set, we'll have a pre-order in the Metallica Store for you shortly."

Queensryche Signs To Roadrunner Records

American progressive heavy metal legends Queensryche has announced that they have signed a new deal with Roadrunner Records. The band are currently working on a new studio album. Speaking on the record, drummer Scott Rockenfeld said:

"Geoff (Tate) and I have really spent a lot of time together redesigning the Queensrÿche thing, which you’re going to love. It’s huge rock but with a great dance vibe to it, real modern dance. It’s kind of like Rage (For Order) through a time tunnel, bringing it into the now. There are a lot of electronic elements to it. It’s a big rock thing that is going to have a lot of color to it - it’s good and really intense."

Aborym Announces Guest Musicians

Italian electro/black metallers Aborym will release their fifth album "Psychogrotesque" on November 8th. The band's now-established three member line-up is joined by a number of special guests and friends: Richard K. Szabo of TWZ, Narchost (Malfeitor, Demon's Shade, Stormcrow), Pete Michael Kolstad Vegem (Blood Tusnami and Mongo Ninja), Giulio Moschini (Hour of Penance), bassist Emiliano Natali (Shoreborn), and Davide Tiso (Ephel Duath and Karyn Crisis Band).

A historical shamanic singer of the legendary combo metal-hardcore crossover Crisis from New York, as well as pioneer of the female-fronted movement also involved in the past with Six Feet Under, Sigillum S, Voivod’s vocalist and currently in the Karyn Crisis Band together with Davide Tiso, Karyn Crisis returns on the international extreme metal scene with Aborym, through one of the most insane and violent performances of all time behind the microphone."

Borknagar Cancels South American Tour

Borknagar has announced the band's previously scheduled South American tour in September has been canceled. Guitarist Øystein G. Brun comments on the situation:

"Sometimes reality bites and it is with a graven heart we have to inform you all that we are forced to pull the plug on the South American tour in September. At this point, too many of the concerts have been canceled by the local promoters (due to local issues beyond our control) and in spite of a desperate attempt to find new venues, we have not been able to get the puzzle together without losing shit loads of money. Parallel to this, our agent for this tour in South America has not provided us with the necessary visas, not even the plane tickets.

"So there is nothing more we can do at this point and we are forced to pull the plug now, in order to avoid further and major expenses that leads to nothing. On our end, we have done all we can to make this happened. David has come over from US for rehearsals, we have worked out and started rehearsing the set, equipment has been shipped from our endorsement partners, prepared tour-shirt design and so on- we have even gotten the necessary vaccines for us going to South America. We had such high hopes for this tour, it would indeed have been a very special event for us, our fans and friends in South America. I can assure you that we have never before fought this hard to get a tour happening, this time we lost the fight and we are sorry!"

Conducting From The Grave Cancels Tour Dates

Conducting From the Grave has issued the following statement regarding dropping off the band's previously scheduled tour dates with Knights of the Abyss:

"Due to scheduling conflicts with getting studio time to record our vocals for our next album we are being forced to drop off our upcoming tour with Knights of the Abyss. We are extremely saddened by this, but the silver lining is that our album will come out sometime this year instead of early next year.

"We are definitely still taking part in the 'Time to Bleed' tour in October with Suicide Silence, Mychildren Mybride, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, and Molotov Solution. Our sincerest apologies to anyone who was planning on coming to see us on the Knights of the Abyss tour, this situation is completely out of our hands."
