Metallica Comments On "Big Four" Bulgarian Show Seeing A DVD Release

Photo of Metallica

Band Photo: Metallica (?)

Metallica has issued the following statement about the "Big Four" show in Bulgaria being released on DVD:

"From Bulgaria to your local theatre to your living room or wherever you might enjoy a little live metal on the screen. You may have heard us say something about a DVD at the end of the satellite broadcast or read it in the internet rumor mill. it's true, there will be a DVD release of the Big 4 show from Sofia, Bulgaria!! We had such an awesome time hanging with Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer and the cameras were already rolling, so why not?

"Here's the scoop: The DVD hits the streets on October 15 in Northern Europe, October 18 in most of the rest of the world, October 19 in North America and the full shows from all four bands will be included in the two disc set along with behind the scenes and interview footage. In addition to the two DVD set and the corresponding Blu-ray, there will be a limited edition 'super deluxe' box set including the DVD set, five CD's with ALL the music, a 24 page booklet, a poster, photos of each band, and a Big 4 guitar pick. The clever title of the DVD is 'The Big 4 Live From Sofia, Bulgaria' (yes, that's really it!!) and you if you're interested in the box set, we'll have a pre-order in the Metallica Store for you shortly."

You can pre-order the "super deluxe" version in Europe here.

Blah fkn blah! More metalli-sh** to soothe the sheeple over. They cut everyone else performance shorter than theirs, due to knowing that all 3 other bands were 1000% better than they were at every show!!!

brandedcfh420,

Did you even read TFA? It says "... the full shows from all four bands will be included in the two disc set ... ". If you are complaining about the show in the movie theaters, it was clearly stated in everything that I read at that time, that the other three bands would only be a small portion of the overall show. What is your beef? Why do you insist on insulting Metallica fans? It sounds like you are not a very happy person, do you need a hug?

Why is this thing being released by Metallica? Seriously we all know why but I'm starting to understand why the Slayer boys didn't take part in the interviews and such.
I grew up with these bands and always been a fairly loyal fan to Metallica because of those badass early albums but this whole thing is starting to seem like a huge Metallica PR stunt to me...are these guys musicians or politicians?
This thing should be released independently of any bands label/management and royalties be split equally, but of course that won't be happening. Does anybody need a Super Ultra Deluxe Genuine Mega Limited Edition package for $300? Oh boy!...I get a guitar pick, a picture and a crappy tshirt! Oh yeah AND interviews with Lars going on about how its always been his dream to do these shows.
The show was cool to see but no thanks I'll pass on this one guys.

wow brandedcfh420 and boltthrower. I love people like you, you always stood out from others(wich is a good thing, most of the time) but you pick on the ones who really achieved success, and the people listening to it. It hurts so badly for you guys that your favourtie band just couldn't make it so far. haha, now im just trash talking you. Lets get serious. Nobody have any right to say that one kind of music suck, because it's all about the ear that listens. If people think slayers the best, then slayer is the best for them. If people think 2pac is the best, then 2pac is the best for them. Same with Metallica for many people. And I do agree with you, kill, ride, master and justice was the best albums for me, but i like there new stuff to. The black Album, it was a classic, very good songwriting and musical achievemnts. Load, Reaload.. I did not like it that much, it was to polished, St. Anger here they tried something really new, many people did not like it, because it wasn't old school Metallica, why does it have to be old school metallica? When did metallica ever dedicate themselves to do the same thing over and over again? I like there new stuff, i like Death Magnetic very much too, I think it reflects there old style with something new to. And about the $$.. you idiots, every man, every woman, every humanbeing likes money.. seriously, you would have grabbed the money like a f***ing sheep eating grass for the first time after the winter. Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth doesn't make that much money that Metallica does, but they sure wish they f***ing did, even Mustaine said so himselve, quote: "Everything Metallica touches becomes to gold, everything i do f***ing backfires at me!" wow, he sure wish he still was in metallica so he could really enjoy all those dollars.

Hope this enlightened your amish brain :-)

Hmm, I disagree complitely. EVERYBODY has the right to diss whatever band and genre they want. Freedom of speech, dude!

Metallica, I still love Lighting, Puppets and Justice. Hated the Black album, Load and Reload were ok, S&M and Garage Inc were pretty cool in my opinion. St. Anger's horrible and Magnetic, well it's ok, but just ok.

The problem I have with Metallica is their greed. They definitely make their fans pay, while they're so rich that they don't need one single cent more. There's a difference between making a good profit when you're that huge and pure greed. And Metallica is simply greedy.

As an example, we know the DVD market is doing much better than the actual music - album - sales. So... how many official DVDs have Metallica released in the past 2 years? Four? Five? That's cashing in. It's as simple as that.

Greed? Hell yeah.. everyone wants the big $$, and the one's that hit big have the chance to do it. You would have done the same thing, no doubt in my mind. I would too. But they still love music, and they show it to there fans in there tours, and Metallica is whatever people say a very very good live band.

Another thing to know.. the big tours and concerts and special effects Metallica have, cost ALOT of money.. do to so, they need ALOT of money.. most of the money they make on things don't go to there wallet, it goes to Metallica web page, Metallica albums, Metallica videos, Metallica tours and concerts, Metallica PR stunts and so on and so on... Hell, the big four show, don't you think Metallica payed just a little fricking more money than slayer, anthrax and megadeth? You know, when you play a show in a bar or at a school, it's free or you get money for it. When you play a big show(One of the biggest bands in the world show) it's expensive, but yes they make more than they use... but not that much more..

Opsis! I hope the last comment of yours was meant in a sarcastic way! Dude, according to Forbes, James Hetfield is worth over 150 million USD, which means Lars is probably on the same level and Kirk and Robert aren't complaining either, I'm sure.

You're actually wrong there by saying I would have done the same thing in regards to making the most amount of money possible. To me, the entire DVD release schedule of Metallica is simply pure greed and lots of true Metallica fans agree. I mean, there was just a Metallica videos collection, then a live one in France, another one in Mexico and another in Canada... now the big four, it's just too much.
Of course I realise there must be an army of businessmen running Metallica's finances and business plans and surely no one would immediately say "no" to making more money, but I personally in that situation would have thought there are WAY to many DVD releases planned constantly.

Napster... this is where I probably get lots of hate post afterwards:
I supported Metallica's view. Napster really "hijacked" or took Metallica's music "without asking", as they said. I bet 99,9% of bands would have freaked out in that situation.
The point of the lawsuit against Napster was valid, Metallica - or I should say Lars - just handled the situation badly. Unfortunately the main focus became Metallica losing money over the fact that Napster had really 'stolen' Metallica's music or the control of it, and was giving it away for free while making a nice profit along the way.

But the bottomline for me is, Metallica are really cashing it in bigtime, and what for? They would still be making sh**loads of money without charging their fans for everything and releasing a new DVD every 3months.

So there! I've had my say.

Okay, I agree in alot of the things you say.

But, "Of course I realise there must be an army of businessmen running Metallica's finances and business plans" thats true.. What everyone must understand, James, Lars and Kirk doesn't care about the DVD's, they make music. Other people make them money. So saying Metallica(Lars, James, Kirk, Robert) is greedy, thats taking it to far i think. I like alot of music better than Metallica, but hell, I don't respect any band more than Metallica. All those years, all the conflicts and there experimentation. Im proud to say that I have and will always be a Metallica fan.

To be honest i'm a very reflected man. I'm not say "METALLICA IS BEST" "LARS IS THE BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD".. I'm simply saying that there is no reason to hate on Metallica, they are and will be one of the greatest bands trough history, and you may have your reasons.. but probably 70% of the people who comment "Metallica sucks" is just jealous about there success in this world.

Okey. Starting to understand your point of view(before I thought you where a d***). But to be honest, and to end the discussion. All i care about in a band, is the music they make and if I enjoy the music, for me specificly it must have alot of energy, and I do like the anger in music to, because it's a positive way to get it out of your system. Well basicly, if Metallica is greedy or not, it's not the point when i come to a live concert(wich they perform very well) they still say the same things(i know they say it every show probably) but it feels special, like when james shouts "We love you Norway, Metallica f***ing loves you!" it's special. And there music fits me, and it obviusly reached out to you to sometime in your life, why not just embrace those moments, and that music they made then or now, or whatever the era you like, and stop thinking about that they make alot of money? It's just sad to be honest, and it sounds like your jealous when you say you don't like Metallica no more, because they make a lot of money, and know how to make money. And they do take care of there fans, hell yeah, there still there 30 years later, still making music but also playing the old school trash metal. And they like everyone else went commercial at one point in there life, but it's okay.

Actually there Death Magnetic album really shows that they did not follow there fans, but they are still glad they tried something new with load, reload and st. anger for themselves, and there happines.

nvm, all in all i love Metallica, i love James, Hetfield is really an interesting person all in all, so much energy and reflected. And yeah, he has cool haircuts! hehe..

Metallica has gone downhill? well depends on the ears, they went a different direction than trash metal, yeah.. i didn't like it, but many did. Death Magnetic is definetly going back to there roots, no doubts.

You know whats funny brandy? Every single song you listen to, every artist/band you listen to, nothing will be as great as Metallica in the eyes of millions and millions of people. Everytime you listen to Slayer or whatever you listen to you will always be rembered that they couldn't keep to the standards Metallica set back in there glory days, never ever. Everything Metallica touches turns to gold - Dave Mustaine ... you should listen to this, it's true, they make a fortune, lots and lots of cash and people love them...

hey, you saying i'm an idiot for listening to something you don't like, or a metalli-sheep as you call me.. then i have the right to tell you the facts straight up, give to you with spoon if you will...
