The Rockstar Ramblings: The Judges

Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) announced this week that if a judge on American Idol he would be honest. Speaking of honesty, Joe Perry spoke this week about the secret of Tyler becoming a judge, saying he was not happy with the situation and hurt Steven didn’t let the band know. So, if I understand correctly, it is okay to lie to your band mates regarding drug use, just not over reality television? Actually, I’m not even sure what side I’m on anymore, nor does it matter because we all know the true losers in this scenario are: Bret Michaels and Gene Simmons (he had to try and get this, right?) for losing out to Steven Tyler… More...

Kataklysm Posts Third Track-By-Track Breakdown

Vocalist Maurizio Iacono of Canadian metal act Kataklysm has posted the third part in a track-by-track breakdown of the band's new album "Heaven’s Venom." Maurizio's description of the songs can be found below. "Heaven's Venom" is set to be released on August 13th in Europe and August 24th in North America.

“At the Edge of the World”: “Forget IN FLAMES and AT THE GATES! This song rivals the best of them in the melodic thrash area. This song will make many heads turn I think. Unleash your anger and bang your head! For when you feel like your suffocating and you’re at your breaking point. Standing at the edge of the world; will you jump or survive?”

“Suicide River”: “The most dark, melodic and dramatic song on the album. A gut gripping and very intense song, fast and mid paced without taking a breath. Deals with suicide and how easy it is to take that route versus living in this fucked up world.”

“Blind Savior”: “The slow finale. A very atmospheric song with a sharp edge. A sing along song it will make you think. Rivals are best slow songs like “Road to Devastation”. Song deals with questioning God and faith. Questions what you can’t see.

Encoffination Album To See CD Release

Selfmadegod Records has issued the following update about releasing Encoffination's debut album "Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh:"

"Selfmadegod Records is proud to announce the release of the CD version of the debut album by the U.S. death metal/doom band Encoffination. Formed in 2009, Encoffination is the sepulchral embodiment of rancid death. Crushing, suffocating death metal doom of the lowest caliber. Named for the ritual preparation of the dead for burial, Encoffination exists below the plane of mortality; deep within the realms of death and decay. Slowly they lurch forth with their educated form of blasphemy, occult, and ritualistic expulsion of the holy from the earth.

"Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh is the first full length of this amazing two-piece band made of Ghoat on vocals, guitar, and bass (also in Festered) and Elektrokutioner on drums (also in Decrepitaph, Festered, Tombstones, Beyond Hell, Scaremaker). Following the After their Temples Descend Below the Earth release, this Georgia/Texas-based duo attacks with an over 30 minutes long, 8-song album of cryptic metal influenced by early ‘90s American doom/death and bands like Incantation, Disembowelment, and Morpheus Descends. The album has already been released on tape format by Ritval Death Offerings, and the vinyl version is available on Psychedelic Lotus Order. Now it’s time for the CD version! Prepare for the most soul draining and graven death metal album of the year this September!" More...

Dawn Desiree Checks In With Update

Death of Desire vocalist Dawn Desiree has issued the following statement regarding the recent claims that she was kidnapped:

"I wanted to stay out of the back and forth internet bullshit because this whole ordeal has been difficult for me. However Perverse Productions does not want to let it go. Now I am compelled to tell my side of the story.

"Morbid and I were to meet up with George, from Perverse Productions, and a potential bass player for a couple of upcoming shows in Mexico. Thursday 8/5 at 9:45 we met up with them at a local bar. During the course of the night 4 other guy friends of George showed up to the bar. We found out later that most of them were members of Georges band Antebellum. I had 4 beers from 9:45 till 2 am when the bar closed. After that I only remember George taking my car keys and getting in my car while I asked everyone around to give me my bag that was in my car. No one answered me regarding my bag specifically. I heard someone say don’t worry everything will be fine. That is the last thing I remember.

"This leads me to believe that one of my drinks was drugged. We are all metal heads and you know 4 beers is not enough to make someone lose several hours. In speaking to Morbid he told me that he was trying to talk to me in the parking lot… trying to get me to get up and leave because all five dudes were trying to jump him. He told me I just sat there in a catatonic state, completely unresponsive to anyone around and staring into the distance. More...

In Twilight's Embrace Posts Another Song Online

Polish metal act In Twilight's Embrace has made the title track off the new "Slaves to Martyrdom" album available for streaming via the band's MySpace page. In Twilight's Embrace also commented on the new song:

"It’s high time for the second song off 'Slaves to Martyrdom' to surface and strike the world! We have chosen the title track for at least two important reasons. First of all, this is the ultimate point of the new album and the most representative announcing of what is yet to come. It gives the listener the picture of the diversity and wide scope of the material included on the second In Twilight’s Embrace record.

"Then, the lyrics for this one are the essence of the new album’s concept and we wanted to share them with you now, even before the release of the record. 'Slaves to Martyrdom' stands in opposition to this illusionary mixture of fear & euphoria, dominating the political discourse, every now and then, when a country like our own tries to build its identity on tragedies and failure. It attacks the poisoned historical policy, aiming at antagonizing nations and serving particular interests."

Odyssey Finishes New EP

Spokane based act Odyssey has issued the following update about finishing the recording of the new "Schematics" EP:

"We felt like we should give you all a little update about us. We have 2 main updates. The first is regarding the new EP 'Schematics.' All the songs have been recorded, mixed and mastered and now we are in the final stages of finishing up the artwork. The theme is a blueprint/schematic drawing, we're very happy with it and feel like it compliments the title quite well. The EP should be available in the next month on CD for just $5 at any show. If you'd like to order online, it'll be closer to $7 with shipping. It's 4 songs coming in at 25+ minutes, well worth the money!

"The second update is regarding shows. What you see on our calendar is basically it for this year. There may be one more Spokane show added in mid-October but from then on we will be recording our 2nd full length album from October through December. Then due to winter weather and holidays we will be taking more time off. We will most likely not be playing any show until March 2011 unless an amazing offer is presented to us. So come on out and catch us at one of the last remaining dates in 2010!

"That's it for now! Once the EP is available we'll let you know as well as post the artwork for you to check out and comment on. Take care everyone and have a great day!"

Benevolent Gives Recording Update

Kuwaiti heavy metal band Benevolent has issued an update on their recording efforts for their new studio album. Here's the update from Hadi:

"So I was at the studio this last weekend tracking guitars and bass for 'Stab Me' (working title) and 'What did you just call me?' (Working title as well!). It went great! Got everything done in a few hours and had some fun in the process at Sarj's Studio!

"There's a mini solo on 'Stab Me' and I still have to finalize writing the guitar solo for 'What did you just call me'...every other bit is written and just needs to be tracked.

"Also! Lyrics and vocal melodies are in the cooking stage, 3 songs need vocal recording (Which is going to start this weekend!)

"We're hoping to get all the recording stuff done within the coming couple of weeks so wish us luck.

"The material is heavy and quite experimental, has a bit of a progressive feel to it and it's got some interesting twists here and there! I'm very happy with the stuff that's been written and I hope that you guys enjoy it once it out and finalized!

"We're having the time of our lives putting this record together!"

As previously reported, Benevolent has a track featured in Metality's free compilation. You can also hear a couple songs below.
