Fear Factory Posts "Powershifter" Video

Fear Factory has premiered an Internet only video for the song “Powershifter,” which is taken from the band's latest album "Mechanize" via Noisecreep. Filmed in England earlier this year, the video was created by English videographer Myles Dyer with assistance from producer Tom Bacon and cameraman David Bass. The clip can be viewed below.

Commenting about the video, Burton C. Bell says, “I am very curious to see the reaction to this video. It was filmed by a good friend of ours, Myles Dyer. He has been a great supporter of Fear Factory for a long time, and now he has become a prominent videographer. He traveled with us for about a week during the UK portion of the Fear Campaign tour earlier this year. Although 'Powershifter' was leaked in the early stages of release, we wanted to produce an online only video for Fear Factory fans everywhere. We hope the fans take the video and spread the Fear Factory word like wildfire.”

Mike Alexander Memorial Show Footage Available

In October 2009 Evile's bassist, Mike Alexander, passed away while on tour in Sweden at the age of 32. Two months after his death, in December 2009, Evile arranged two memorial shows (Leeds & London) to honor the memory of Mike and to raise money for his family. Below are videos of the entire covers set, including messages read out from Mike's family and Earache Records, at the Mike Alexander Memorial Show in London on December 8th, 2009.

Evile lead guitarist, Ol Drake, had the following to say: "The two nights we did in December meant so much to us all. It was our own way of saying goodbye to our friend, Mike. We attended his funeral with his family and friends, and it was a good ceremony, but we wanted something we know Mike would have loved; two nights of Metal. It was tough to get back on stage again without looking over and seeing him there, as that's what we'd all seen on stage for the past 10/11 years. I don't think people realize how long we all played together. We still miss Mike dearly and can't believe he's gone. Thank you to everyone involved in helping us make these nights happen, and thank you to everyone for coming and paying your respects. I hope you enjoy these videos!" More...

Pit Stories: The Element of Surprise

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Gazelle Amber Valentine of sludge metal duo Jucifer shares a few stories, mostly about what happens when the first guitar note blasts out:

Every pit has some joy, some blood... and usually a fight or two. But when you're playing guitar through upwards of a dozen cabs, some of the most entertaining pit incidents happen before the pit has even had time to get started.

Most of my favorite crowd reaction stories happened when I hit the very first chord. Because except for those occasions when something goes wrong or there's a noise ordinance, the first chord is always waaay louder than people think it's gonna be. And this leads to great moments. Like when our touring sound man watched this guy with a full pint glass trying to chat up a lady beside the sound board. And when I started to play, the dude jumped and dropped his beer. Which bounced, shattered, and splashed all over the girl. Who was not impressed with dude's game.

A house sound man from a club we've played since the mid nineties told me that he always watches to see what happens. And his favorite reaction to recount was this: a guy flat out fell over when I struck the first chord. Fell on the floor. Epic.

But if you want blood, the best Jucifer pit was probably the one which was throwing pint glasses around. Some of which ended up on the front of the stage, where they were crushed into a perfect carpet of glass shards for the most enthusiastic moshers to roll around in. I can still picture one guy perfectly. He was so covered in blood, he looked like an extra from a slasher movie. Shit did not even look real. And he kept coming back for more. Best part: we talked to him after the show, and he was sober. Now that's commitment!

Jucifer is currently touring the US and Canada. You can check out their latest tour dates here and hear some of their music on their MySpace player.

Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories!

ThanatoSchizO Comments On Upcoming Album

Portugal's ThanatoSchizO has issued the following announcement about releasing a new album entitled "Origami:"

"The new album will be called Origami and is set to be released in October by Major Label Industries. This semi-acoustic CD will include guest appearances from the likes of Fadomorse, Banda de Música de Mateus (brass and woodwind ensemble), alongside many other surprises, such as the use of instruments like the theremin, cavaquinho and balalaika.

"As previously disclosed, the new album is going to comprise songs from previous records but with a different touch, approach and edge to them. The more harsh and heavy melodies are going to give place to a more acoustic, experimental and ethnic side of the band’s enterprise.

“In this album you will encounter a different side of the band and discover that each musician has taken on a journey of self-discovery through music. The recording process was very pungent, rewarding, rich and exciting. No emotions were left out and what you will listen to is what we truly feel about previously recorded songs that hold a tremendous meaning to us." More...
