Ex-Evanescence's Members Form We Are The Fallen

Billboard.com reports: Ben Moody predicts that his just-unveiled new band, We Are The Fallen, will enjoy a peaceful co-existence rather than mortal combat with his old group, Evanescence.

"We wish them the best," Moody, who co-founded Evanescence with singer Amy Lee in 1995 and left the band 2003 after co-writing its multi-platinum debut, "Fallen," tells Billboard.com. He formed We Are The Fallen earlier this year with original Evanescence members John LeCompt on guitar and Rocky Gray on drums, adding bassist Marty O'Brien and "American Idol" Season 7 finalist Carly Smithson on vocals.

We Are The Fallen has released its first song, "Bury Me Alive," on its official web site, WeAreTheFallen.com. Rather than bring out an album, Moody says the group plans to release new material sporadically via the Internet; another track is due out in September before the quintet hits the road and then the band will release two songs every eight weeks. Moody says We Are The Fallen is considering a terrestrial CD for 2010 that may contain extended versions of the songs as well as orchestral interludes and perhaps even live recordings and footage from the tour.

Besides its new material, We Are The Fallen does plan to play songs from "Fallen" on tour; the group even played that album's "Going Under" at a press conference on Monday in Los Angeles.

You can also hear the band's new song on their MySpace player here.

Manitou Calls It Quits

Finnish metallers Manitou have issued the following announcement about calling it a day:

"THE END OF THE MANITOU

"After a long struggle and a lot of effort to give some rescue breathing to this band without much results we've decided to call it a day and say goodbye to the MANITOU.

"We had some new rocking songs ready for the recording and we even had a new bad-ass keyboard player Mikko Reinamo on board. Too bad that we failed to get the recordings done due to the lack of motivation.

"12 years, three great albums and a big bunch of great gigs, ups and downs. A big thank you goes to all our friends, fans, co-operation partners and supporters, you know who you are!

"The good news are that Ismo, Antti, Mikko and Markus are already working together on a new still anonymous project, which will in a way continue the legacy of Manitou with a new singer and drummer on board. More info coming soon on this case, so keep on checking the Manitou myspace site for updates on what's happening in the family. More...

White Wizzard Comments On Line-Up Changes

Earache Records has issued the following announcement about line-up changes in White Wizzard:

"The lineup featured on WHITE WIZZARD's September 8th debut mini-album, HIGH SPEED GTO is much different from that of the current lineup whom will be recording a full length album set for release in 2010. Recently, several ex-members from the previous lineup have begun making headlines in a newly signed band who's former name shared an eerily similar theme with that of WHITE WIZZARD's."

White Wizzard bassist Jon Leon issued the following statement about the line-up changes:

"WHITE WIZZARD has had a line up change since the recording of the WW mini album in 2007. I wrote some songs and formed the first incarnation of the band rather quickly and went into the studio. The mini album was a quickly thrown together ep of the first songs just to getWW started. It turned out well for how quickly it was done, and the seeds were sewn for the next phase. More...

Deep Purple To Record New Album In February 2010

British hard rock legends Deep Purple has announced that they will begin recording their next studio album next February. Lead vocalist Ian Gillan stated: "I think we are ready to make another album. We’ve been talking about it for some time already. I think we’ll start to work on it next February."

"We go into the studio with absolutely nothing, no music or lyrics whatsoever. We sit in the kitchen, having some cup of tea, talk about families and football… Then we go into the room and play; six hours a day. After three days, some ideas begin to shape and we start to turn them into songs. To prepare the main lines takes about three weeks, to deal with lyrics, recording process and mixing also take two weeks. Since there have been many technological developments recently and we use them by recording the music in analog and mix it in digital to achieve the best result."

Shadows Fall Streaming New Song Online

Shadows Fall has issued the following announcement about streaming a new song from their upcoming album "Retribution" online:

"Get you first taste of Retribution today exclusively on the Shadows Fall official MySpace page. The first song to be made available from the album, 'King of Nothing,' is available NOW here. The song features a brutal guest appearance by Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe.

"This song opens with my favorite riff on the record. It came out of Matt’s late night drunken riff bag, and the song built itself around the heavy vibe that it created. It is a four minute beat down!! The lyrics of this song are about the overwhelming self-medication of our world. There is a prescription for every mood these days, and people are turning into zombies. It's time to toughen up and face your reality, no matter how brutal it may be, otherwise you will just be reigning over a world of nothingness. The bridge features guest vocals from the one and only D. Randall Blythe aka Uncle Goddamn aka The Redneck Assassin of the mighty Lamb of God. Randy came down to the studio in VA to cook us dinner, and we put him right to work behind the mic. We layered his voice with Matt’s and myself to create the three part harmony from hell!!"

Singer and producer Alex Krull: ‘I think the cover artwork is very atmospheric and absolutely well done! Heile did a great job! The whole CD booklet exactly looks like we wanted to and it perfectly visualizes our music on the new album.’

"The upcoming LEAVES’ EYES album contains 12 tracks of a special kind. Guitarist Tosso: ‘The tracks and the sound on ‘Njord’ are reflecting the development of our band during the last years. There are some straight, rocking and bombastic songs such as the single track ‘My Destiny’ but also some real epic-like, symphonic monster tunes. They all demonstrate the most intense and dense atmosphere ever heard from this band! We even included once again some Nordic-Folkloristic elements into our sound. We were supported by The Lingua Mortis Orchestra under the aegis of Victor Smolski and a classical choir. In my opinion, ‘Njord’ represents the most complete and elaborate album from LEAVES’ EYES."
