Forbidden To Debut New Track On August 21st
California thrashers Forbidden have issued the following update about recording new material and debuting a new song online on August 21st:
"What may seem over due to all of our long time fans, was like a lifetime for us. We just completed the first demonstration of any new Forbidden songs since 1996! Phew...that's quite a sentence for me to type.
"Everybody in the band is very excited about the two songs. All of the guys did a terrific job. The 'new' dudes, Mark and Steve raised the bar of expectation and really stretched out and challenged themselves. But our real hero is Russ, my god, did he ever sing his ass off! Nobody can deny the results of all of his hard work. Oh yeah, Matt and I did alright too. All in all, we feel that every minute we put in was worth the wait. It gave us the perspective we needed to attain what we heard in our heads. We felt the need to dig deep and deliver the very best material we could for everyone to get a feel for our sound in 2009. Especially under the circumstances of being out of the Metal genre for so long. Rest assured, it sounds like Forbidden!
"The songs were Recorded and Mixed by Tim Narducci and assisted by Brad Barth at Sonic Room/Audio Voyage studios in Livermore California. Tim did an amazing job and fully dedicated himself to the project. It's a fantastic situation, because Tim and Brad play with me in SpiralArms! The working/creative relationship has really flourished over the last year. It's truly ideal!
"Adapt or Die will debut worldwide tomorrow night, Friday the 21st, at this location on Nikki Blakk's Metal Zone between 10pm and 1am pst. Nikki Blakk is a True Metal supporter and a great DJ! There couldn't be a better place to debut a new Forbidden song then playing it on the Bone, based here in San Francisco, for such a large audience of Metal Heads! Thanks Nikki! More...
Atheist Issues New Road Report
Kelly Shaefer of Atheist has issued the following road report from their European tour:
"A rash of fucking nightmares as well, in true Atheist fashion, we always seem to have these strange things happen to us whilst touring. The night before I was leaving for The Brutal Assault festival in Cz Republic, I started fucking shaking and sweating and my throat was killing me, like really bad, so I just sort of flew over and hoped for the best, but upon arriving at the fest, I really was fatigued, and feeling shitty, so much so that flynn went looking for a doctor so we could get me some antibiotics. He found one across from the hotel, and with the assistance of an interpreter, we managed to find out according to them I had a severe throat infection, but they referred to it as 'Angina' which has heart implications etc, so we are freaking out because they are telling me you have to rest constantly, no singing, no drinking, nothing...so CLEARLY, that was not going to be possible with a run of dates just getting started, not to mention a trip to amsterdam, you are telling me i cant smoke out in holland...i say fuck that, but i did not drink for the whole tour till the very end of my antibiotics which was in Finland, so it turns out in europe, angina is basically Strep throat, and there were no reasons to worry about heart issues....yikes close call!
"So while I was in a ton of pain, we got through the first 2 shows, and truthfully it went better than if i has been drinking, i feel like my screams were stronger etc. Drinking just always happens with me at shows so to not drink was a great experiment for me, and it turned out to be a great wake up call for me. Many thanks to all the people who came from around the world to the brutal assault festival, it was a really well done event, except there was a mix up about how long we were to play so instead of us playing an extra 20 min, we were accidently cut 20 min, so we apologize to the fans who expected a longer set...we expected to play longer as well, and we will be back next year to make it up to you. Many thanks to our good friend and promoter Thomas for the great hospitality.
"Many great things happened on this night and we saw many friends old and new including the Faceless and the Suffocation guys. But probably the most important meeting of the trip was between myself and one Patrick Mameli from Pestilence. As many of you know we have not exactly been the best of friends since 1991. Many daggers have been thrown by the both of us, and at the end of the day we were both right to be angry with one another. We had a very neede discussion about all of that shit backstage at the Brutal Assault fest, and steve flynn also had a 45 min talk w him as well. We parted as friends, and that is a lot more positive then harboring anger for so many years, we are cool with pestlilence, and we all actually had a great time discussing the old days and the future of our bands playing together, they're Gtr layer patrick also came to our show in Zandaam which was very cool. so... He does indeed… or he did, as we convinced him (finally!!!) that we were out of tape to record any more of this nonsense and – after a few days of redundant squeaks (believe it or not, but he still calls it 'playing!' Catholicon Announces New Album
Catholicon has issued the following update about releasing a new album:
"Catholicon would like to officially announce that Of Ages Past, our fourth full length album, is likely the last album to bear our name. The album is about one week from going to press. We hope that everyone will check out what we all believe to be our most creative and different album thus far. A concept album on death and change, ironically appropriate; but still packed with plenty of the contemplative irreligious themes that make us what we are. Musically still Catholicon, but more moody, different, and some unexpected things here and there. We will announce as soon as it is back from press."
