Sunday Old School: Dark Angel's "Merciless Death"

Dark Angel is a thrash band that formed in 1981 and played on and off up until 2005. They were pretty big in the Bay City thrash movement, so you might call them some of our "thrash granddads." If you care you can read their whole story here. It's really awesome that we're still able to experience some of the music that influenced the bands we love today. This video is a live clip from their 1989 show in Hammersmith, London. This of course was back when you could wear tight jeans and have feathered hair and not get your ass beat by the other metal heads. More...

Trail Of Tears Cancels Rock City Appearance

Trail of Tears has issued the following announcement about canceling their appearance at the Rock City Open Air festival:

"Dear all,

"we regret to inform you that the Trail of Tears performance at this years edition of Rock City Open Air in Fetesti, Romania has been canceled by the promoter.

"The promoters of the event, Metal Masters, have proven unable to uphold their basic responsibilities, such as the booking of flights as well as deposit payments, thus adding Trail of Tears to the apparent ever growing list of canceled bands.

"Please DO NOT BUY TICKETS TO THIS FESTIVAL in order to see the band as we are no longer participating in the event! Our great booking agency The Flaming Arts have tried everything in their power in order to prevent the situation, however unfortunately a solution turned out to be impossible. The band would like to apologize to every fan who intended to take part in the festival, this is completely out of our hands and the last thing we wanted to see.

"The band and our booking agency are working to schedule alternative shows in Romania for later this year so please check back for updates as soon as they become available. Stay patient and thanks for your understanding and support!"

Darkwell Members Form New Band TrustNo1

Austrian gothic metallers Darwell have formed a new death metal band under the title TrustNo1. An audio sample from their demo can be found here. TrustNo1 also issued the following statement about their music:

"TrustNo1 is straight, brutal, heading to the point and trying to transport a message. TrustNo1 was formed by the core members of Darkwell, because there are a couple of ideas and concepts behind, which cannot be transported by the musical means of Darkwell. Within TrustNo1 you find Raffael, Roland and Mathias of Darkwell, additionally TrustNo1 consists of Manuel, Raffaels brother and long term friend Stefan on second guitar. The musical core is old school Death Metal, spiced up by a couple of crossover elements and other influences of extreme metal styles.

"Further on we think that metal music does not have to be political, but it can be, and somehow it is all the time. Everything is political, as long it deals with social behaviour of human beings and that does music often. You can hide your ideas behind lyrical phrases or articulate them directly. TrustNo1 is an antiauthoritarian collective and we criticize all kinds of oppression."

Crucified Barabara have posted an extensive tour blog online with images from their recent performance at the Masters of Rock Festival. The full blog can be found here. An excerpt from the report follows:

We left Rockweekend and the hotel in Bollnäs 3 in the morning, after having 3 hours of sleep (at least some of us...) and as Rick Roadrage drove us safely to Arlanda Airport we were all sleeping like stones in the bus. I can't really understand how we all could be so shitfaced in just a few hours the evening before, but we did, and it was extremely strange to be up this early, trying to check in for another adventure, when our bodies wanted nothing but laying down in a warm bed, having someone to feed them with pizza and ...lots of water....
