Sunday Old School: Integrity's "Systems Overload"

I love Integrity so much. They're one of my favorite old school hardcore bands. The great thing about Integrity is, is they're still around. Formed in 1988, they've stood by through the various fads that have made the scene ridiculous. Now they're currently on Deathwish Inc. and they're still putting out great hardcore albums. This song is off their 1995 Victory Records LP, "Systems Overload," and it's a solid mid-90s hardcore video.

City Of Fire Reveals Self-Titled Debut Details

Hard Rock experimentalists City of Fire pay homage to the vibrant city in which the band was formed, Vancouver, BC, with their self-titled debut release. City of Fire’s debut album was released on the band’s website, cityoffire.com, on Saturday August 15th, with a full-scale release to be announced shortly.

Although they are relatively young as a band, City of Fire has plenty of musical experience; Burton C. Bell (Fear Factory) on vocals, and Byron Stroud (Zimmer’s Hole, Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad) on bass, with Ian White, vocals/guitar, Terry "Sho" Murray (Shocore), guitar, and Bob Wagner (Shocore, Econoline Crush), drums, rounding out the lineup. The band’s self-titled debut was recorded over a two-month period in the band’s hometown of Vancouver, at the Factory Studios and Profile Sound.

“I have always loved Vancouver,” explains vocalist, Burton C. Bell. “During this session, my eyes were intensely aware that Vancouver is vibrant with life, like a raging fire. This is where the name of the band came from. I was inspired like never before, and I believe it shows accordingly on this City of Fire debut.”

City of Fire finds its roots in everything from metal, to hard rock, to punk, but most of all, the mountain lined countryside, and everyday life, in one of the West Coast’s most beautiful cities, Vancouver.

The 11-song debut was produced by Terry “Sho” Murray and City of Fire, and features a special vocal appearance by Chris “Lord Heathen” Valago of Zimmer’s Hole.

The cover art to the debut album can be viewed here.

The track list for "City of Fire" is as follows: More...

Soilent Green is Doled Out to New Orleans Citizens

It truly was a night to remember. The club was packed to the gills and filled with smoke from various substances. Everyone was chattering away while the bands mingled with old friends and made us wait with ardor to until they would make music for us. First on the bill was a crust punk band called Tire Fire, the singer of which is out of his fucking mind. In previous performances I’ve seen, Matt throws himself on the floor which would normally knocked the wind out of somebody, but he just keeps singing (or screaming). As the audience knocks him around, picks him up to throw him back down and kicks him, he just keeps going. He was not as crazy this night because there were barricades along the stage in anticipation of a rough night, but he still managed to kick the faces and chests of the people in the front row while he said, “Fuck barricades.” If you ever see these madmen live, check out their merch table where you can purchase a bottle of Asian whiskey that has a cobra and scorpion in it for just over $100. Panopticon Finishes Recording New Material

Panopticon has issued the following update about finishing recording new material:

"The new PANOPTICON is done being tracked. It's by far the most emotional, gutwrenching recordings i have done. Deviating from the folk elements of collapse ,exploring shoegaze and atmospheric elements, reveling in melancholie and introspection. it will be split into 2 split cds one w/ 'when bitter spring sleeps' on pagan flames records and one with skagos and throndt out on lundr records. It will be released as an lp on a label that has yet to be chosen. The concept of the album is dealing with spirituality and confronting mortality, facing death with a combination of realism and pagan spirituality. Some of the tracks feature readings from the Poetic Edda by goði Patrick Flannery and the final track to the album features brutal vocals performed by Jack 'pestilence' Hannert of Michigan emo violence artists FALL. More updates soon after it has been mixed and mastered. The recordings were recorded by me and will be mastered by lundr records genius SKALLEHAMMEREN and artwork done by yours truly. thanks to everyone who continues to support me on my musical exploration. You are all so very appreciated.

"2 tracks from the sessions have been posted on the mp3 player for you to enjoy. thank you for your time."

Decrepitaph Set To Record New Album

Texas death metallers Decrepitaph have issued the following update about preparing to record a new album:

"We've been getting some e-mails lately asking about the next album. I guess most people don't realize 'Condemned Cathedral' has only been out for 9 months! But, here is the scoop on the next one...

"We will be recording the next album in the middle/end of September 2009. This album will contain 9 songs and run around 45 minutes in length. You can expect much of the same style that appeared on the debut album, with a few minor twists and turns here and there. There are a few more doomy parts, a few more blasting parts, a couple thrashy parts, and a HEAVIER sound. We are recording the album the same DIY way as before and once again, Patrick Bruss of Crypticus will be doing the mixing/mastering for us.

"We honestly believe the second album will be far superior to the debut. I know every band says that, but we basically took every song we had (and a couple old ones) and recorded them all for 'Condemned Cathedral'.. With this next album, we wrote 18 songs over the past year and are picking the best 9 to be recorded. Also, we have a couple other songs written for some upcoming releases next year as well and hopefully we can get those recorded in the late fall/early winter of 2009.

"The album title and tracklisting will be unveiled at a later date. The cover art will once again be done by Metal Mark who did 'Condemned Cathedral' as well as our 'Summoned For Sacrifice' split EP and the inside art on the 'Resurrected and Rotting' EP. More...

Nothingface Disbands Once Again

Last week, on Thursday and Friday, August 13-14, a series of posts were made by Nothingface members on their MySpace blog before being removed. Tom Maxwell apparently fired the first shot (thanks Blabbermouth for Tom's message, as it was nowhere to be found anymore):

"In the past couple weeks, I've decided that I cannot move forward or continue to work with NOTHINGFACE anymore. This has nothing to do with my NF bandmates Bill Gaal or Chris Houck, but directly with band vocalist Matt Holt. It's in my belief/opinion that Matt no longer has the passion, drive or artistic capabilities to continue in a musical direction. His lack of work ethic and desire to be part of the writing process or to track vocals for the music that has been written has pushed me to make the decision to not be part of NF any longer. It's a shame and I sincerely apologize to all the fans that have stood by us waiting for new music from the original lineup. I don't want to point fingers or lay blame but in fairness to myself, Bill and Chris we tried very hard with the best intentions to bring you all killer new music. Unfortunately, and with regret, I do not think that it's going to happen.

"I just want to say thank you and express my gratitude to all the NOTHINGFACE fans that have supported us over the years. Hailz to you all!!!!"

Bill Gaal responded with this:

"Well, we gave it our best shot, but Nothingface is done. I think Tom said it all in his posting, so there's not much more I'm going to say right now. We're all at different points in our lives, and have all approached music with different levels of ambition and desire over the years. Sometimes those desires match up, but and at this point it just isn't working. This has always been a band with very strong personalities, and we've been able to work through our differences in the past, but those days are over.

"I came back into this band last year with the intention of writing a great record with the original lineup, and I'm sorry that it will not be happening. I apologize to all of the fans out there who stuck by us through this process and who were excited to hear a new record. I was excited to!

"Although I do not think there will ever be a reunion between the 4 of us ever again, there may be projects that some of us collaborate on in the future.

"Thanks again to all of the Nothingface fans all around the world, your support has been unwavering over the years and I've always appreciated that."

Chris Houck made a forum post on Friday in response to the discussions sparked by those short-lived MySpace blogs, which seems to reinforce that the band is done. More...

Crimson Glory To Headline ProgPower USA

Crimson Glory has issued the following update about headlining the upcoming ProgPower USA Festival:

"We are proud to announce that Crimson Glory have been asked by ProgPower USA founder/promoter Glenn Harveston to headline the ProgPower USA tenth anniversary festival on Friday, September 11th, 2009 in Atlanta, GA.

"It is both a privilege and an honor to perform at this this well-established and highly respected American metal fest, and we see this as a beautifully serendipitous opportunity to pay a final and meaningful tribute to Midnight in a truly special manner by including the fans, as well as a stretching of our collective wings in anticipation of a new era of Crimson Glory.

"Initially we had only intended to come to ProgPower as a band to commemorate Midnight by presenting a memorial dedicated to his life and his work with Crimson Glory. We had of course hoped for the chance to play the festival at some point in the future, but from the ashes of circumstances beyond Glenn's control, this opportunity arose for Crimson Glory to perform sooner rather than later.

"This was totally unexpected, but after much deliberation between all members of the band, we feel that it is absolutely the 'right' thing to do. We see this as the perfect scenario for us to reconnect with the many fans who have followed Crimson Glory over the years, as well as to present our music to those fans who have never seen the band play live. Indeed, we plan to use this performance as a bridge between the past and future of Crimson Glory. As one door closes, another opens; as one chapter ends, another is begun; this promises to be a very intimate, magical and memorable event for us as well as for the fest. More...
