Universum to Record New Album

Australia’s melodic death metal heavyweights Universum will commence recording of the much anticipated follow-up to their debut album "Leto Destinatus" in the coming months.

Due for release in early 2010, the album, tentatively titled "Mortus Machina," will feature guest appearances from vocalist Christian Älvestam (ex-Scar Symmetry), guest guitar solos from Nightrage axe-men Marios Iliopoulos and Olof Mörck. Jens Bogren of Sweden’s Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Soilwork, Amon Amarth, Katatonia) will once again be handling both mixing and mastering duties.

Universum’s lead guitarist Michael Soininen comments: "We are all excited by how the new album is developing so far and believe that the songs have a newfound depth, both musically and lyrically. The combination of the new material, the great guest musicians Christian, Marios and Olof, along with Jens’s mixing and mastering should result in a great album."

Wolverine Bassist Guests On New Griftegard Album

Wolverine has issued the following announcement about their bass player making a guest appearance on the upcoming Griftegård album:

"Our bassplayer, Thomas Jansson, recently recorded the bass tracks on Griftegård's upcoming album which is to be released in September this year. Griftegård, a doom metal band from Norrköping, Sweden, invited Thomas to participate in the process of making this album after a rather quick and unforseen situation which led to the original bassplayer parting ways with the band. When former Wolverine guitarist Per Broddesson, now member of Griftegård, asked whether Thomas could come to Norrköping and help out, there was no way he was going to miss the opportunity to work with a band that he highly appreciates. Thomas will join Griftegård on the Hamburg gig due 18 July, where they will play together with The Devil's Blood."

Paradise Lost Streaming New Song Online

British gothic metal band Paradise Lost will release their new album “Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us” through Century Media Records on September 28, 2009 in Europe and October 6, 2009 in the US. The album’s opening track “As Horizons End” is currently streaming on the band's MySpace page.

Vocalist Nick Holmes commented on the song:

“This song is about someone who's on a downward spiral. Working too hard and trying to claw back some positive spirit by participating in all the so called joyous occasions in life, socialising and networking but to no avail, the long days have crushed the soul till only disappointment and cynicism remains. This song was inspired by the thousands of dishevelled looking middle aged businessmen I see in airports each year.

"This track has had a dozen face lifts since its inception and in true fashion, it was never intended to be the first track. Once it was mixed though it was hard to imagine any other song opening the album.” More...

Theatre Of Tragedy To Reissue Previous Albums

Metal Mind Productions has issued the following announcement about re-issuing two Theatre of Tragedy album:

"Theatre Of Tragedy is truly a phenomenon. Their first three releases became legendary on the doom/gothic/death metal scene, while the next two introduced a completely different musical style, bringing the group closer to industrial and electropop rather than traditional metal. Today Metal Mind Productions presents the exclusive re-releases of those two controversial albums by Theatre of Tragedy - ‘Musique’ and ‘Assembly’.

"‘Musique’ was the first offering to take Theatre of Tragedy into a new direction and this exclusive re-release brings back one of the band’s most revolutionary steps ever… In the year 2000 Theatre of Tragedy decided to part ways with their past and reach towards the future by completely changing their musical direction. Released through Nuclear Blast on October 2nd, the group’s fourth LP, ‘Musique’, brought a brave mixture of industrial, electropop and gothic rock. The band left their early gothic/death metal inspirations and introduced a fresh new sound, focusing on upbeat, electro-based tracks. This rather controversial style change was difficult to accept by many fans of Theatre of Tragedy’s previous albums, but eventually the new formula proved to be more than convincing. More...

...just kidding. Maybe one day - that is a good jam; you can't deny it. Joking aside, we are indeed in the process of recording a new song for our own benefit and it probably won't see the light of day until album #3 hits next year. That, or when we do our best-of collection in 2027. Check out some pics of us being idiots in the studio here."

"On the show front, we will be opening for the mighty Edguy at Peabody's Down Under in Cleveland on Saturday, September 12th. We do have tix available, so hit us up: crownthelost@hotmail.com.
