Almah To Enter The studio
Brazilian prog power metal band, ALMAH (feat. ANGRA members Edu Falaschi and Felipe Andreoli), are currently preparing new material for their third studio album, at the same time promoting its predecessor "Fragile Equality." Almah’s singer Edu Falaschi gave official comments about the present stage of work:
“It’s a great pleasure to inform you that very soon we will have a new Almah album in our hands, completely composed. The chemistry of the current line-up is so good and the results we have got with Fragile Equality have been so fantastic, that we can’t stop working at our new songs. All of them sound with a lot of energy, with modern and heavy passages. Certainly, this third CD is a mix of everything that Almah has done on its first two albums, for sure, besides new approaches, sounds and ideas. Very soon we will launch some videos and photos of our work at pre-production of the album and most probably – some parts of new songs! The studio recording is pre-scheduled for the middle of September and the release of the album is to be in the first half of 2010."

Sweden's Katatonia has issued the following update about the recording process for their upcoming album:
"Just when the ‘g-g-g-guitars’ were done we decided that one song needed acoustic guitars for a different folkish touch and we had to devote some more time for that the last weekend. Fred ‘north’ Norrman came down to get it done, but it was harder than we thought. Playing an acoustic guitar and making it sound great is one thing, but actually recording it and making it sound great kinda makes you wonder how some people can do full acoustic guitar albums without any picking or strings noise on the fretboard, but it turned out fine eventually. Yeah.
"Last monday it was time for mr synthesizer man Frank Default to come down the rathole for a week. Frank owns a real Rhodes piano, so we thought we'd save all those parts for the real deal and mic it up instead of keeping the midi programming hooked up to a software plugin. More...

Skyclad Announces Festival Appearances
U.K. folk metallers Skyclad have issued the following announcement about upcoming festival appearances:
"After a fantastic album launch at the Performance Academy in Newcastle (and a very drunken ‘aftershow party’), it was time for Skyclad to join in with the festival season. We have just headlined our first ever UK folk festival at Spratton. This happened on Friday June 10th and got a great reception – even though we might be a bit ‘heavier’ than the bands that normally play there, so thanks to the organisers for taking a chance and making this happen. Hopefully there will be more events like this for Skyclad in the UK – we are ready and waiting.....
"Skyclad has also just paid another return visit to the Dong Open Air festival in Germany (we have now played in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009). This has got to be one of our favourite festivals (and probably a favourite of many others as it sold out in just four hours) partly because of its unique location (on top of the ‘Dongberg’) but also because of its ‘small but perfectly formed’ philosophy. They could move this festival and make it bigger etc but they have created a nice ‘niche’ for themselves and long may it continue. We are planning to return next year (we know it breaks the sequence but…) for the DOA tenth anniversary and Skyclad twentieth anniversary. ‘A fistful of cows’ indeed.....
"So what’s next? Well the next festival will be the ‘Rock City Open Air’ festival in Romania. This one is at the other extreme to the Dong as it is a four-day event with over a hundred bands. Skyclad are set to play on Friday 21st August (there is a link from this site).....
"Apart from the festivals, Skyclad have also now confirmed all the dates for a tour of Eastern Europe in October (see tour dates) and there will be more news about this, and any other shows added, in the coming weeks." More...

Vagrant Records announces an October 6, 2009 release date for "Desperate Living," the fourth full-length from Southern California's Horse The Band. The twelve-track set was recorded at White Buffalo Studios in Los Angeles with producer Noah Shain and includes several special guests.
"Noah really cared about helping us get exactly the sound and feel we wanted on the record," said keyboardist Erik Engstrom. "We also have incredible guests on the record like classical pianist Valentina Lisitsa. She plays a Prokofiev piece (composed 100 years ago after his best friend shot himself in the face with a pistol) at the end of 'Rape Escape' which is possibly the most powerful song we've ever written. I'm a huge fan of hers and this is the first recording of her playing this piece of music –it's absolutely devastating." More...

Interview with Tony Freed of Godhate
"God is just a concept made up by man," says guitarist and vocalist Tony Freed of Godhate. The Swedish blasphemers have traveled a rocky road when they formed in 1991. Many have come into the band only to prove they couldn't handle the hate. But Godhate is strong now and will be releasing "Equal in the Eyes of Death" this fall. Tony took time from his horrendous schedule to talk to me about his impression of America and the band's future plans. More...
Fall of Efrafa Posts New Album for Free Download
UK heavy atmospheric post hardcore band Fall of Efrafa has made their latest album "Inle" available for free download. You can also pre-order the album on CD or colored vinyl here.
Influenced by the mythological and political overtones in the book "Watership Down" by Richard Adams, it is a concept project, a trilogy of records known collectively as "The Warren Of Snares" - "Owsla," "Elil" and "Inlé." The narrative follows an iron age society oppressed by a theocratic rule, dying at the hands of ignorant ideology, their struggle to overcome both physical and mental hardship and to strike out against the ultimate enemy, the encroachment of man.
"Inlé," the final record will be released late August 2009.
You can check out a video of a live performance below to get a taste of what this band is like. More...

Hirax To Release New Album In August
Thrash metal veterans Hirax has announced that they will release their brand new studio album, "El Rostro de la Muerte (The Face Of Death)" in August through Black Devil Records. The album will feature ten new tracks along with a bonus track from the bands "Chaos And Brutality" EP.
“The combination of Haddad and Rozen’s recording and production are perfect for the vision that we had for the sound of this album,” said Hirax vocalist Katon W. De Pena. “We worked with Haddad on the last 2 Hirax EPs, Assassins of War and Chaos And Brutality. He has a great understanding of the power and speed of Hirax, and he knows how to bring the best of our talents to the surface. We have a lot of respect for him. Hirax first worked with Michael Rozen back in 2004 on The New Age of Terror album and it’s great to be working with him again. His experience in mixing and production are what we need to complete the mega-epic sound that we are striving for. It’s the first time Hirax has ever brought two of our producers together, but it seemed like the logical thing to do since they both have an ear for detail and a certain work ethic which brings out the best in the band. Musically, it combines everything that Hirax is known for and much, much more! True thrash metal!!”
