DevilDriver Checks In With New Road Report

Drummer John Boecklin of DevilDriver has checked in from the road with the following tour report:

"Touring has a great feeling this time around. Seen alot of friends from fear factory, unearth, killswitch, 36 crazy, anthrax, megadeth, as I lay dying, rise against, 3 inches of blood, malifece, slayer, Alice in? Chains. Basically you can tell what I'm getting at here, every show has a friend or a hero of mine and it fucking rules.

"Playing shows has also gotten a bit easier as well for me because I now use IN EARS for the first time ever. My feet are now more consistent then before cuz I can really hear what's going on now. Tomorrow we get to headline the second stage @ Graspop festival in Belgium. Dez is fucking pumped cuz Kiss headlines the main stage, one of his all time favorites.

"We also have been jamming the rough mixes this tour (Andy Sneap mixes in late July). It's got beef. It's interesting to me, it's not the fastest shit we have done, nor the slowest, just lots of groove. But to me, when people say 'it's got groove,' I think its a nice way of saying simple and boring these days. We wanted to avoid this.

"Our record has a great contrast of dark riffs, stomp bouncing drums with the right amount of blasts and double bass, and outstanding vocal delivery from Dez that takes it past your average approach of the metal attempt. I'm not talking about reinventing the wheel or nothing. I just think our new album sits in it's own corner from any of our other albums."
