Pit Stories: Crowd Surf Fingering
Time for a new Pit Story! After hearing about good karma with a travelling bottle of Jack Daniels and a tale of a missing yet indestructible guitar, this week we hear about a bevy of entertaining live shows from Atlanta outfit Dead Register.
We usually get some odd tales told in offbeat ways, but sometimes, these tales from musicians just absolutely sing with poetic wonder. This is one of those times.
Vocalist M. Chvasta of Dead Register today offers up an awe-inspiring retelling of a string of Jesus Lizard shows, in which girl bits both were and were not fingered, and penis both was and was not seen. He tells the story like this:
One time in the 90’s, I went to a Jesus Lizard show. Some band that sounded like Jesus Lizard opened. Two for one.
One time in the 90’s, I went to a Jesus Lizard show. Some whorish girl wearing super-short shorts wanted tons of attention from men. She would NOT stop crowd surfing, which was totally annoying (like most crowd surfers). She did not have underwear on. Dudes were fingering her girly-bits as she crowd surfed, to her delight. I think I saw Dave Yow’s dick, too.
One time in the 2000’s, I went to a Jesus Lizard reunion show in Nashville. Their tour shirt design was a bag of money, perfectly fitting. My then friend, but now wife and bandmate went with me. We moshed like champions, like it was in the 90’s. She did not crowd surf, nor did she get fingered. I ran into Larry from Pegboy who is a fine gentleman and a wonderful heartfelt singer. Pegboy did not open this show. Pegboy does not sound like Jesus Lizard.
One time in the 2000’s, I went to another Jesus Lizard reunion show in Atlanta. I wore an orange flannel shirt. Like it was the 90’s. Except I did not see Dave Yow’s dick.
Jesus Lizard and Pegboy are not metal.
Fuck crowd surfers.
We appreciate the clarification at the end there Chvasta! Dead Register will release new album "Fiber" on May 7th and two tracks off the release can be heard below. For more info on the band, head over to the Dead Register Facebook profile. More...

Beak Posts New Music Video
Chicago post-metal quartet Beak re-awakens (following 2012 debut EP "Eyrie" and 2014 full-length "Let Time Begin") with a new video for the song "Souls In Streams." Singer/guitar player Jon Slusher comments:
“Our follow-up single from our first full-length, 'Let Time Begin,' 'Souls In Streams' lyrically deals with the moment just before an envious soul enters the material world; the dead looking in on the living with contempt before leaping into the fray, observing the cycle of matter taking ultimate form and then disintegrating back to nothingness.
"In the video, we see an antagonist as an abettor of entropy, procuring chaos and nudging along the next universal cycle by burning down his own milieu. The video uses ultra slow-motion footage of combustion and projections of the vocalist's face back onto himself." More...

Italian hardcore band Hierophant has revealed the details behind the recording process for a forthcoming album. The band is scheduled to enter The Pit Recording Studio with Taylor Young on May 12th, and will be tracking the new album during the week that follows.
Regarding the new recordings, Hierophant comments: "After an intense and stressful period, all tracks are finally ready to be recorded. We're very proud of what we've done and all the choices taken about this record. We decided to go to Los Angeles at The Pit Recording Studio and produce the album with Taylor Young! We believe he is the right person with the best approach to work on this record in the best way. Get ready for a wave of pure, uncompromising hatred and 100% intolerance. Stay tuned bastards.”
Taylor Young adds, "I was lucky enough to mix Hierophant's previous album, 'Peste,' and I couldn't be more excited to be able to take it to the next level and help them create a monstrous album. This will be one of the heaviest and most aggressive productions I have created thus far."

Methra Announces "Acolyte" LP
The Tucson, Arizona-based marauders from Methra have completed their arduous "Acolyte" LP for a summer release through Battleground Records. The label comments:
"Methra is comprised of two self-proclaimed fat weirdos who believe in making heavy music for heavy people. Drummer Andy Kratzenberg (Godhunter) and guitarist Nick Genitals (Limbless Torso) recorded the bulldozing 'Acolyte' in late 2015 at Arcane Digital (North Side Kings, Unruh, Landmine Marathon) with Ryan Butler, who complained of physical and mental anguish due to the bands' unorthodox recording demands.
"The band used only incredibly large speakers to record a behemoth load of sixty-nine guitar tracks - for a total of ten songs that is -- including 15" and 18" speakers, and a 21" subwoofer. The rough concept of 'Acolyte' is based on persistent online rumors that a cabal of top amplifier manufacturers had Hartley Peavey killed and replaced with a doppelganger in the late 80s to stop the company from collapsing the industry due to low price points on the highest quality original amplifiers in the world.
"In deference to the great glory of this nation and the announcement of a sequel to the game-changing blockbuster film Independence Day, Methra has decided to give a very special 4th of July release to 'Acolyte,' which will happen through the regulation of Battleground Records on colored vinyl and digital deliveries. Album art, audio samples including two videos, preorders, live dates, and other propaganda will be issued in the coming days." More...

Belphegor Comments On Russian Censorship
Following some fundamentalist nut job accosting Belphegor and Nile at an airport as soon as the bands arrived in Russia, things went from bad to worse for this ill-fated tour. Belphegor just issued this statement:
"After a great tour kickoff in Minsk, Belarus [18th April], Belphegor dealt with heavy opposition and censorship within Russia resulting in three shows being cancelled. We apologize to Russian supporters. The troop tried everything to secure the shows.
"The St. Petersburg concert was canceled just a few hours before Belphegor was scheduled to enter the stage on the 19th of April. We arrived in Moscow hoping for the best on the 20th. We were ordered to remove the already hanging backdrop, then told that stage props such as sculptures and crosses were forbidden, and Helmuth was not allowed to do vocals for the track 'Lucifer Incestus.'
"During the second track, the sound engineer had been forced to mute the vocals for the rest of the show because of our lyrical content. We were outraged by the entire experience. Afterward, we were informed that we would be unable to play in Ekaterinburg [21st April] and Krasnodar [23rd April]. Thanks to Sviatlana Dubavets for the photo shot during our Ritual in Minsk, Belarus." More...

Written almost exclusively in a windowless, black room over the long dark nights of winter 2005, "Diadem Of 12 Stars" was the first official Wolves In The Throne Room release. Indivia Signs Record Deal
Argonauta Records has checked in with this announcement about an official new band signing this week:
"We’re more than proud to welcome an intriguing new name in the Argonauta Records family: Indivia, from Italy, authors of an exciting Stoner Doom Rock!
"Indivia (Cichorium endivia, from the greek word ??t?ß??) arises in a basement somewhere between the lowlands of Padova (Italy), during the autumn of 2012, due to the meeting between Andrea (guitar) and Nathalie (drums). In 2013, after the consequent entry of Diego (bass), the power trio starts organizing gigs under a fake name (Wedge), releasing its first 4-track EP 'Belladonna' (totally self-released) in 2014.
"In December 2015 the band recorded the second album, 'Horta', still unreleased. The trio plays a blackened version of stoner doom through an experimental and hypnotic mood, highlighting the monolithic wall of sound, being influenced by bands as Sleep, Black Sabbath, Conan, Karma to Burn and Bongzilla, accompanied by green vibrations coming from the underground, raw fuzz, pierced eardrums, and vinegar."

Trial Signs With Metal Blade Records
Swedish metal act Trial has signed on with Metal Blade Records.
Trial formed in 2007, but it was not until 2013 when the band wrote and recorded the "Malicious Arts" EP (2013), which became yet a stepping stone from where the band was to where they wanted to be. "That EP, in many ways, became our first road to liberate us from ourselves," the band recalled. "Rising from the ashes of our former selves, we took things further beyond, which ultimately resulted in the album 'Vessel'."
After earning acclaimed reviews for "Vessel" (2015), Trial's popularity continued to grow, and it wasn't long before Metal Blade Records signed the band. With plans to re-invent themselves once again, Trial's upcoming debut for the label promises to be another step forward a budding career.
Comments the band: “We're honored to be able to work with such a prestigious and historically important label as Metal Blade. Many of their previous releases are milestones in the genre and of great inspiration to us. To join their roster of artists and be a part of that legacy is one step further towards the perfection of our craft!"
