First Fragment Posts New Track Online
"Dasein" is the forthcoming debut full-length from Canadian neoclassical-influenced tech death unit, First Fragment. In advance of its release, today you can hear first single "Le Serment De Tsion" - check it out below.
Set for release on May 20th via Unique Leader Records, the eleven-track "Dasein" boasts a fierce mix of over-the-top drum tirades, complex neoclassical-influenced guitar work, endless solos, Flamenco and clean guitar passages, proggy death metal bass work and a varied dual vocal approach.
"Dasein" was captured at Humanoise Studios with Mathieu Marcotte (Augury, Humanoid), mixed by Hugues Deslauriers (Augury, Defilementory, Vengeful etc.), and features guest appearances from current and former members of Spawn Of Possession, Obscura, Inferi, Augury, and Elderoth, as well as artwork by Sam Nelson (Incandescence, Wayfarer, Stoic Dissention). Erra Streaming "Hourglass"
Erra has shared a new song titled “Hourglass” from the Birmingham, Ala. based-band’s forthcoming album, "Drift" (due out April 8th via Sumerian Records).
This 10-song album follows the band’s 2013 album "Augment," which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Album Chart. "Drift" was recorded with producer Nick Sampson in late 2015 and features new vocalist JT Cavey (Texas in July).
Of the line-up change, vocalist/guitarist Jesse Cash said, "It was extremely stressful and difficult. Ian's a very good friend of ours. He knew the limitations of his voice though, and understood why the band had to make the necessary change. The departure was an amicable one."
The album's full track listing is as follows:
1. Luminesce
2. Irreversible
3. Skyline
4. Hourglass
5. Orchid
6. Drift
7. Sleeper
8. Continuum
9. Safehaven
10. The Hypnotist More...
Society 1 Crowd Funding Doors Cover Album
Society 1 has released a music video for a cover of The Doors' "Wild Child" (edited and directed by Matt Zane of Lord Zane Productions). The track was produced & mixed by Alex Crescioni at Stygian Sound and was mastered by Mike Wells at Mike Wells Mastering.
The group has also launched an Indiegogo campaign to crowdfund a Doors tribute album entitled "Not To Touch The Earth," with "Wild Child" being the first track on the release.
Matt Zane comments: "This album isn't going to be some half hearted attempt to cash in by recording a bunch of uninspired covers. We want to bring The Doors music to a place that its never been. By focusing on the groove within the songs and bringing out the innate heaviness of each track our goal is to completely re-envision what The Doors may have sounded like if they created their music in 2016." Eschaton Posts New Music Video
Today Eschaton's visual accompaniment to "The Beast Is Awakened" comes online and can be seen below. The track comes by way of the band's spine-twisting "Sentinel Apocalypse" full-length released through Unique Leader last year.
Captured at drummer Darren Cesca's House Of Grind Studios in southern Connecticut, "Sentinel Apocalypse" is a relentlessly abrasive exercise in technical agility and blatant aggression.
"'The Beast Is Awakened' is an attempt to illustrate mankind's metamorphosis into savage and destructive animals that is the result of the perpetual struggle between man's obsession with power and inextinguishable thirst for freedom," elaborates the band of the track.
Eschaton goes on tosay, "Some would rather face death than oppression while others will stop at nothing to maintain control, resulting in a cycle of horrific acts that represent the worst of who we are as a species. The video's producer, Miceli Productions LLC, went to great lengths to capture the chaotic and violent nature of the song, but also the energy and technicality of the band's performance. The goal was to blend dynamic angles, post production effects, war footage and editing techniques to give the viewer an intense and captivating experience." More...

April Fools! Did We Get You?
The most glorious day of the year has sadly passed, so we're back to real news today (although based on some of the comments still going here and at Facebook, it would seem the date-challenged haven't realized that yet).
We had a ton of fun putting our gags together for 2016, and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did in our fourteenth (!!) year running of writing all joke articles on April 1st.
We can't get most of you anymore, but there's always a few new folks we manage to pull in with tales of Trump and Clinton duking it out on Twitter over Phil Anselmo or a classic Helloween lineup reunion. Likewise, some of our Facebook readers weren't too happy about the news of a sold-out Wacken being Iron Maiden's last performance.
Keep an eye out for the real news in the coming months, because we're developing a track record for some of our April Fools pranks getting perilously close to coming true... The full list of 2016 articles can be found here if you missed any.
What was your favorite this year? Maybe the Axl / Vince Neil swap, Danzing doing even more awful covers, or the silly ones like Bernie Sanders appearing in a NYHC doc or poor Phil Anselmo getting picked as Trump's running mate? More...
