Fjoergyn Signs With Lifeforce

Lifeforce Records just checked in with the following statement about inking a record deal with Fjoergyn:

"We are proud to announce the signing of German uncompromising avantgarde metal act Fjoergyn to the Lifeforce Records roster! Their new album is set to be released in Autum 2016.

"Originally intended to be a purely orchestral solo work, Fjoergyn was founded in 2003 by musical visionary Stephan L. His approach until today (with now having a full band line-up): to combine opulent orchestral, and classical sounds with heavy guitars, and a metal aesthetic.

Texas Hippie Coalition Posts "Angel Fall" Video

Red dirt metal outlaws and steadfast THC endorsers Texas Hippie Coalition dropped the "Dark Side Of Black" album on April 22nd via Carved Records. In celebration, the band has also released a new video for "Angel Fall."

The video was directed by Clark Deal and was filmed at 3130 Studios in Oklahoma City, OK. Take a long drag and relax to the heavy groove sounds and blazing visuals of "Angel Fall" below.

Vocalist Big Dad Ritch states, "Putting this video together, we knew we had to make haste, because we had to get on down the highway. As many people out there in the world know, if you're a musician, the only real way to make any money is to take the stage. And we put more miles on tires than any motorcycle club in the nation.

"When you take a look at this video, you'll notice the simplicity. I made sure the camera targeted in on the players faces, their emotions, and what they were going through playing the song. We just let what's inside them pour out onto the film. Nothing big about this, no inserts of visions that some director might whip up and to try and show what the singer/songwriter was trying to portray. We kept it pure and raw, just the way I like it. We wanted to keep it plain, let you see the darkness, let the black shine in, let the shadows on the face block exactly how the lips are moving where the words can't be seen. More...

Extrema Releasing "The Old School" EP

Extrema - led by Tommy Massara’s abrasive guitars and energetic personality - got its start in Milan, Italy, back in 1986 and has been playing heavy and fast since before many of the group's current fans were even born.

After being delayed from an initial March release, Fear Of Domination has now announced new album "Atlas" is coming May 6th via Inverse Records. The label comments:

"The end-of-the-world theme is broken with contradictory and fucked-up-poppish twists. The Finnish shock-metal maniacs are telling in Atlas’ ten songs stories about relentlessness, frailty, loss and finiteness and finality of everything. Atlas is a journey. Atlas is a burden. Atlas is great...
Atlas is in you

"The journey of Fear of Domination started in 2006 in a Finnish town of Nurmijärvi, when a group of friends decided to create a hard-rocking show band. The band is known for its half-crazy and energetic live shows, which are combined with wicked theatrical elements and pyrotechnics. Fear of Domination has thousands of loyal and dedicated fans, dominators, throughout Europe and the world." More...

Arcana 13 Posts "Hell Behind You" Video

"Danza Macabra" is the spellbinding debut LP from Italian occult doom rock collective Arcana 13. The members of Arcana 13 - whom collectively hail from such acts as Mnemic, The Modern Age Slavery, Void Of Sleep, Stoned Machine, and more - carefully selected eight legendary horror classics from the '60s and '70s to represent on "Danza Macabra."

Today a video for one of those tracks comes online. Check out "Hell Behind You" below, which centers itself around Dario Argento's 1980 film, Inferno. Comments vocalist/guitarist Simone Bertozzi:

"Inferno by Dario Argento. Do I need to say more? This movie is simply majestic on so many levels and one of my personal favorite of all time; such a supernatural horror classic. Not many know that Argento got very sick with hepatitis while shooting and invited his mentor, the legendary Mario Bava, to step over and help him with some scenes like unforgettable the underwater ballroom one and also some optical effects."

"We opened 'Danza Macabra' with Mario Bava's Mask Of Satan," he continues, "and closing it with the Argento/Bava masterpiece Inferno was the natural choice, pairing it with one of the most epic songs of the whole album: 'Hell Behind You.' It's intense, gloomy and evocative with its swinging groove and Black Sabbathy interlude. Dutiful mention to the genius that wrote the incredible soundtrack of Inferno: Keith Emerson. He sadly passed away the very day 'Danza Macabra' was released, March 11th. This one goes to you, Keith. Rest in peace." More...

Backwordz Posts "Statism" Video

Texas-based hip hop / metal band Backwordz just released the "Statism" music video, which features a guest perfomance from Craig Mabbitt of Escape The Fate. The video was directed by Albert Gonzalez and shot in Houston, TX.

"Statism" is the second single off of the band's debut album, "Veracity," due out later this summer. Eric July of Backwordz comments:

"We spent the first year getting a name for ourselves and doing a ton of background work for this band. Now that all of that is out the way, we aren't playing around. We gave our audience a jab with 'Utopias Don't Exist' and now we are throwing straight haymakers. As far as lyrical content, 'Statism' IS BackWordz and it sets the tone for what exactly this band stands for. Alex and I are hardcore libertarians and we want to spread the message of liberty within our music, as well as speak on the dangers of The State.

"It seems that so many people our age have been brainwashed into supporting government expansion; today's music artists in general tend advocate for big government. We are that dissenting voice and we wanted to make it known with 'Statism.' The music video consists of us wearing the colors that represent different types of anarchy. The black and yellow being the most prominent, because we are for the most part anarcho-capitalists.

"We want the state to be abolished, and we want you to know why. I think the coolest thing about us, is that Alex and I actually know what we're are talking when it comes to economics and politics. This makes our lyrics far more in depth and thought provoking. We don't just talk about it during election time, or highside on the internet to sound as if we are a lot smarter than what we are.. We actually live this." More...

There are some names which strike reverence and respect in the hearts of metal fans such as Rob Halford, Lemmy, Ronnie James Dio and one of Germany's most beloved voices, Udo Dirkschneider, whose voice was first heard when Accept released their self-titled debut album in 1978 and since then has gone on to have hit records, write classic songs and forge a legacy which will always be respected.

I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Dirkschneider when his European tour came to London, in which we discussed why he has decided to say goodbye to the Accept catalogue, plans for the next U.D.O. album and if performing in Spain allows him time to head to his home in Ibiza. Butcher Babies Take London By Storm

Butcher Babies are a band which have attracted plenty of attention in their relatively short time, garnering both praise and (sometimes unwarranted) criticism. However, they've always been more than willing to fight back and answer the naysayers, particularly in the live setting. Last week in London, the band, joined by Canadian outfit Sumo Cyco, brought their blistering performance to the English capital.

Although I unfortunately missed the majority of the local opener's set, I did arrive with plenty of time to see Sumo Cyco. Having known nothing about the group before watching them, I had the fair position of having no expectations about their performance. However, I am now convinced that I have seen the next big thing, a phrase I have never used before. Sumo Cyco bring a hard rocking take to some very catchy numbers, as well as something of a party atmosphere to a gritty, punk influenced style. More...

"For years we have kept to the shadowy underworld of the Balaur Kvlt, secretively committing our visceral incantations to limited release for only the trvely worthy, calling for our great Lord Balaur's return. Now he has risen and the new world order is at hand, through blood lust, orgiastic sex and unimaginable vampiric terror this Realm Of The Damned is now a reality.

"With the release of the Realm Of The Damned graphic novel and the forces of good now vanquished, our debut album, a trve black metal gospel of praise to the Lord Balaur is set for release though Season of Mist Records later this year. Let the chaos begin! Screaming Blood And Pussy, Hail Lord Balaur!"

Glorior Belli Frees "Satanists Out Of Cosmic Jail"

With less than two weeks left before the release of Glorior Belli's new album "Sundown (The Flock That Welcomes)," the French avant-garde black metal band has unveiled new track "Satanists Out Of Cosmic Jail."

Glorior Belli announced a return to black metal roots on "Sundown (The Flock That Welcomes)", which is set to be released on May 6th via Agona Records.

"The production is by far one of the best that Glorior Belli ever had," comments the band. "Drums & bass are absolutely devilish and placed under the spotlight. Everything was recorded, mixed and mastered in our own studios, having an absolute control as usual over the sound. The guitar work overall will bring you back to the origins of Glorior Belli."

The statement goes on to read, "Conceptually wise, 'Sundown (The Flock That Welcomes)' will smother you with darkness and light, both stuffed down your throat with the same rage that could be heard on Glorior Belli's ealier records. When the Night is coming down on you, will you find a way through the dark? A record for the very few of us who truly embrace the desire to break from the cosmic prison." More...

Fates Warning Details New LP "Theories Of Flight"

U.S. progressive metal pioneers Fates Warning announced a worldwide release date of July 1st for the much anticipated 12th studio album via InsideOutMusic. The new album is entitled "Theories Of Flight" and comes packaged with unique artwork (which can be seen below) created by Michigan artist Graceann Warn.

Fates Warning guitarist and main composer Jim Matheos comments about the title and the artwork for the "Theories Of Flight" album as follows: "The working title for the album was 'The Ghosts Of Home' and the song with that name was first called 'Home Again.' When I started searching for artwork I came across the piece that's now the cover and it was called 'Theories Of Flight.' In fact, the title you see on the cover is part of the original art, not something we added. There's a loose theme running through a lot of the lyrics, and this developed organically and separately, where Ray and I are often writing about various uprooting, escapes....flights. So I was immediately drawn to that phrase as being a better description of what some of the songs are about."

The track listing for "Theories Of Flight" reads as follows:

1. From The Rooftops
2. Seven Stars
3. SOS
4. The Light And Shade Of Things
5. White Flag
6. Like Stars Our Eyes Have Seen
7. The Ghosts Of Home
8. Theories Of Flight More...

Beyond All Recognition Announces New Album

Swedish dubcore metal act Beyond All Recognition is set to release the self-titled album on May 27th, via Gain/Sony Music.

The band comments the inspiration for making the album:

"The inspiration for writing this album is nothing else than a will to challenge ourselves. With the last release, 'Drop=Dead,' we weren’t ready to deliver music straight out of our hearts as we are for this upcoming album.

"The lyrics are inspired by the world and how it works today. Why there’s violence and injustice in the world and what politics and religion actually does to the human race. Aside from the very deep meaning and message in the songs, no political or religious statements are made. It’s a view from everyone’s perspective. An open minded perspective that is critical to all the things we’re doing to ourselves and our planet. The truth is out there for those who want to listen. Even if truth has a different meaning for each person.

"When it comes to the music, a lot of inspiration comes from plenty of different acts. To name a few, we’ve always loved Slipknot, which some probably can tell, but aside from that there are influences from bands like Soilwork, Alter Bridge, Rammstein, Asking Alexandria and even band such as Judas Priest and Europe. Look at the song “Unfounded” for example. Rob Halford has always inspired the singer David Söhr, and he finally got to take his vocals to a whole new level with some 80’s heavy metal vocals. It’s hard to really say that the songs are truly inspired by these bands, but since the bands has been with us during our childhood and growth, there is of course something that makes us write the music we do. Of course the whole dubstep and electronic era was a very big challenge for us, since no one had done it before. So during the years from the debut album we have evolved in a better way than we could’ve imagined.
The electronics isn’t controlling the feel to the music anymore. It sort of merges together in a better way than before. It’s more like an instrument than an effect nowadays." More...
