Pit Stories: Certified To Withstand A Car

Every week we catch up with bands from across the globe to get their favorite stories from live shows. While most of these take place squarely within the mosh pit, sometimes the most interesting shenanigans take place right before or after the show, as is the case this week with a tale about a missing guitar. Finnish outfit Shiraz Lane shares this story:

For some reason the capricious forces of the universe have had their fun at times with me (Miki Kalske). One reputable example occurred on one average show day. We were preparing our gear at our rehearsal place and heading for load in as always. After we got our gear all packed up, we drove to the club.

Everything was going smooth and until it was time for sound check; I couldn’t find my guitar anywhere although I had a clear memory trace that I brought it out of our rehearsal place and left it leaning against the vehicle to be loaded among the last items. After a frustrating and inconclusive search, a horrendous thought rushed through my head that perhaps we had forgotten the guitar back at the rehearsal place. I had a bad gut feeling that maybe it was somewhere outside laying open and vulnerable for some dishonest citizen to steal.

We called our landlord who had both good and bad news; luckily the guitar was there, but apparently a car had driven over it since it had tire marks stained on it. To make matters worse, at that time I didn’t carry the guitar in a hard case, but in a flimsy carry-on bag instead to save space and my back when occasionally traveling on foot after a gig. After an hours excruciating drive back to square one, we located the beaten-up instrument. My heart skipped a beat as I opened the bag to see if all the bits and pieces were still intact.

At first glance the guitar seemed to be alright (miraculously) and even after closer analysis I was relieved to notice that the only flaw was that it was out of tune. After a quick tuning session and a double check I was ready, once again, to hit the stage having my precious six-string hanging around my neck. To this day I still play with that same guitar, recorded our debut album with it and have played all our gigs with it ever since.

By no means do I want to end this short story with a hint of endorsement, but I am inclined to thank ESP Guitars (although I am not an official artist in your roster). At least this guitar is certified to withstand a car, literally.

Frontiers Music Srl released the new Shiraz Lane album "For Crying Out Loud" on April 15th, 2016. Check out a music video off the album below, and more info can be found at the band's Facebook profile here. More...

Leaves' Eyes Releases Mediation Document

The duel between Leaves' Eyes and former front woman Liv Kristine continues, this time with the band releasing a mediation statement from earlier this month (available below). Leaves' Eyes posted this message online:

"THE TRUTH ALWAYS REMAINS. Since we are fed up with the lies on social media, and as we promised yesterday, here is the proof that we tell you the truth about what is going on.

"Here you can read the signed protocol documents (English and German) - certified by lawyer Frank Dehn - which proves that the news about the protocol from the mediator of our crucial band meeting is accurate and correct in every way.

"Furthermore the protocol shows that the decisions were made together! Since January this year Liv’s exit from the band was already pending. We hope, we have finally cleared up the situation for every one now! Like posted before we wish Liv all the best for her future!"

This document coming online following claims from Leaves' Eyes that Liv was made aware of the changing situation back in January, which she specifically denied in a recent Facebook post. The protocol in question below is dated as from April. More...

All Hail The Yeti Releases New Video

Whiskey-soaked hardcore metal hybrid All Hail The Yeti released new full-length concept album, "Screams From A Black Wilderness," earlier this month via Minus Head Records. Today, the band releases a new silent film-inspired music video for one of the album's standout tracks, "Daughter Of The Morning Star."

The "Daughter Of The Morning Star" video is designed to depict the earliest part of the "Before The Flames" / "After The Great Fire" satanic nun saga. The video is once again directed by Brian Cox of Flarelight Films.

Vocalist Connor Garritty explains the concept behind this particular video: "This story begins in the late 1400's with a pagan witch/wiccan woman who lives by herself, purposefully distanced from a village of Christian Puritans. They are scared of her because she is different and doesn't follow their ideals. The men from the village plan to get rid of her and hunt her down. They rape her, beat her and leave her for dead. She then transforms and summons the power of the devil and takes revenge on the men and the people from the village." More...

Leaves' Eyes Responds To Vocalist Situation

The Leaves' Eyes split is officially getting ugly. While the original press release sent out by the band had statements from all parties indicating an agreeable split, of course that turned out to not actually be the case.

Both sides have now sent out dueling statements with completely different claims about what went down. Liv Kristine claims plotting went on behind her back and she was booted from her own band without warning after a new vocalist was already picked.

The remaining members of Leaves' Eyes have fired back with this statement below, claiming everyone agreed to the split through a mediator and that Liv was aware of the situation as early as January:

"Dear Fans and Friends, we are just back from a great weekend in Indonesia. Our first show with Elina went awesome! Despite a heavy tropical storm before the gig 21.000 people showed up in front of the stage!

"We understand that many fans and friends are surprised and shocked about the change in our band. We all know Liv had an important role for the band in the past, and we understand people are sad as it was not an easy decision for every one involved.

"But since a lot of hateful and disrespectful comments are in the social media, we would like to take the opportunity to make some points very clear: Leaves’ Eyes has always been a band, and not a project, nor a Liv Kristine solo project at all. We always worked as a team in Leaves’ Eyes. In the last decade Tosso and Alex wrote the music for Leaves’ Eyes and Liv took care of the lyrics.

"Liv’s solo project is called 'Liv Kristine.' We supported Liv also in her solo career, writing music, recording and producing albums and doing management in the past.

"The decision to part ways with Liv was taken by all Leaves’ Eyes members, including Liv. A mediator - a friend of Liv and Alex - was at the band meeting who can witness that the decision of parting ways was agreed by all members. Liv was happy to have the opportunity to plan changes in her future life and she does not have to go on tour so much anymore. The idea to go separated ways came up already in January. Elina was no part of this decision or process. More...
