Udo Dirkschneider Bids Farewell To Accept
The Islington Academy has hosted many names from the world of metal over the years. From upstarts to legends, many a hard rocker has passed through it's doors. Tonight however, the venue was to host a show like never before, as the iconic heavy metal singer Udo Dirkschneider and his band U.D.O. (using the moniker, Dirkschneider, so as not to confuse concert goers expecting to hear their own songs,) performed a set consisting only of Accept songs, the vast catalogue and classic tunes the singer was bidding farewell to after so many years, perhaps never to be sung by his unmistakable voice again. He was in good company too, bringing along Canadian metal stalwarts Anvil for the ride, as well as British heavy metal outfit, I.C.O.N.
I.C.O.N. opened the show and set the tone for the entire night. This quartet from Burnley play nothing short of vintage of heavy metal with the skill to do it justice where so many have failed, making them the perfect openers for such a tour. With a good stage presence and solid musicianship, the group surely won over those who attended the show early and treated them to some real belters such as "Devil's Blacklist" and "Deconverted" during a set which felt all too short for those of us in the audience. Their album, "The Blacklist" is out now. More...

Assassin Streams "Back From The Dead"
It's a phenomenon that we occasionally come across in life: sometimes you have to take one step back to be able to take two steps forward. "Combat Cathedral," the latest album release by Düsseldorf speed thrash metal act Assassin, takes two steps forward. It presents a band that is not only highly motivated, bringing to bear all the tried and tested fortes and pushing the pedal to the metal as ever, but that also has the courage to evolve.
Today the first song from the album has come online. Check out "Back From The Dead" in the player below. On the song, guitarist Jürgen "Scholli" Scholz commented: "'Back From The Dead' is the opener of the new Assassin studio album 'Combat Cathedral' and it hits you right in the face. It shows that Assassin is really back, stronger than ever with our new singer.
The twelve songs were recorded at the Nemesis Studios in Essen with the support of experienced sound engineer Marc Görtz, guitarist and main songwriter with German metal core legend Caliban.
Scholz comments: "Marc made sure that the typically earthy and consciously slightly old-school Assassin sound is ever-present on 'Combat Cathedral,' enhancing it with a contemporary phat production. A perfect symbiosis!" More...

Grave Desecrator Streaming New Track
Cult death/black metal horde Grave Desecrator just revealed new details surrounding the release of forthcoming album, "Dust to Lust."
"Dust to Lust" features artwork from acclaimed artist Zbigniew Bielak and will be released by Season of Mist worldwide on either June 3rd, June 17th, or July 1st, depending on whether we believe the video or the label's press release, which do not agree with one another.
Pre-orders are up now at this location and a new track titled "Temple Of Abominations" can be heard below.
Regarding the new track, guitarist "El" Necrogoat comments: ""Temple of Abominations" is a typical Grave Desecrator expression. Straight through the breast of religions and misconception of 'god,' salvation, peace, and all the elements which provide the breeding of a corrupted and twisted conviction. Of course that´s nothing new to the universe of Black or Death Metal, but we, Brazilians, have been witnessing a period of intense evangelical wide-spreading throughout our country! So, that´s absolutely a fistful of rejection towards it, but this time also much more personal as we have been facing it right in front of our eyes!"
He continues, “There´s an intrinsic aura in 'Dust to Lust!' It could bind the listener to our specific essence and components of our, sometimes, crude and cruel environment. There are no laws or truths! Lies, lust, drugs, satanism, darkness, vice, spirits, vanity, night, death, love, hate are the aliments regurgitated by this womb of chaos and perdition…And for us, it´s not a fancy allegory, but a bitter reality!" Avantasia Lights Up New York City
Concerts come and concerts go. The more concerts we see, the less distinctive they become against the backdrop of such numbers. As we get older, it seems each show etches away a fragment of that youthful excitement – the part that props our heroes up on a mantle where they are only revered for the music they create. In 2016, there are so many opportunities to view our heroes from the other side of the stage – whether it is via “meet and greets” or just through the accessibility of social media, which proves as much amazing as it is awful. Our heroes become so human that it etches away the luster of the mantle which our youthful excitement once raised them on. In this regard, perhaps those who feel “rock is dead” may just have a point.
Nocte Obducta Posts New Album Teaser

Liv Kristine Responds To Mediation Document
Following her former band releasing a mediation document from when Liv Kristine and Leaves' Eyes parted ways, Liv has now posted this message to fans and announcement about plans for upcoming music:
"1,200 messages - YOU ARE AMAZING! I have read all your heart-warming words and good wishes. This is the essence of our true and honest relationship. So much love to my fans and friends!
"Still, I am horrified - how can someone put a protocol not approved on by me online, without asking me for permission? I don't see the necessity in this. Anyway, it puts things straight: I was fired from my own band that day. A sudden action, and well planned.
"Let the past be past! Today I talked with Raymond (Theatre of Tragedy) for further cooperation. Are you ready? Who's in?"
For those who missed the unfolding train wreck, Liv and Leaves' Eyes very unexpectedly parted ways recently, which led to dueling statements about how the breakup went down and whether it was really a mutual decision. More...

Joy Streaming "Hope Less"
While not even a year old, North Carolina's Joy boasts a fine-tuned, aggressive nature well beyond the group's youth. After releasing a two-song demo in May of 2015, the quartet toured and played shows all along the East Coast, sharing the stages with Advent, Shai Hulud, Full Of Hell, Power Trip and various others.
Joy will release a new, five-song EP titled "Of Nothing" this coming June 17th on Blood & Ink Records. Check out the song "Hope Less" below, courtesy of MetalSucks.net.
Vocalist Andrew Langhans had this to say: “The lyrics of 'Hope Less' came about as I was overwhelmed and stressed about the direction my life was headed. The monotony of day-to-day happenings and the occasional feeling of being lost has made me wonder from time to time if I should lower my expectations on what my life will amount to. I realize this isn't the most positive outlook, but it's something I have wrestled with. I want my lyrics to be true to myself and honest with whoever listens.” More...
Deserted Fear Signs With Century Media
German outfit Deserted Fear just signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records to release an album in 2017, with the band commenting:
"Since the release of 'Kingdom Of Worms' things went really quick and fast: touring with Morbid Angel & Morgoth, a great festival summer and awesome headliner shows! Furthermore people started talking about us besides 'the metal regulars' tables' and festival camping grounds.
"A question came to our minds: Who will release our next record? We've never even thought of having the opportunity to choose! No manager and no figures should speak when it came to the final decision. We trusted our guts and our new label is Century Media Records from Dortmund, Germany!"
"As you can see on the photo, we went to Century Media, pulled out the ghetto blaster and presented the first raw tracks of the upcoming album. By the way: we signed the contract before - just to be sure hahaha!
"These guys are no faceless suits to us: Jan (second from left) took care of our promotion since the release of 'Kingdom Of Worms' and helped us a lot when it came to the difficulties of contracts 'n stuff. The guy on the right side is our future A&R partner Jan-Ole, whom we knew since we shared the stage a few years ago and became buddies. On the left: Jens Prüter - Head Of A&R at Century Media Europe and care taker for many legends of our genre. More...

First Fragment Streaming "Emergence"
"Dasein," the debut full-length from Canadian neoclassical-influenced tech death unit First Fragment, is set for release on May 20th via Unique Leader Records.
Captured at Humanoise Studios with Mathieu Marcotte (Augury, Humanoid) and mixed by Hugues Deslauriers (Augury, Defilementory, Vengeful etc.), the eleven-track offering features guest appearances from current and former members of Spawn Of Possession, Obscura, Inferi, Augury, and Elderoth, as well as artwork by Sam Nelson (Incandescence, Wayfarer, Stoic Dissention).
In advance of its release, you can hear fourth movement "Émergence." Elaborates guitarist/vocalist Phil Tougas: "This track is extremely old [2008-2009]. Almost all of the songs on the album are either entirely written by myself or [guitarist] Gabriel Brault-Pilon, but this one was written as a full collaborative effort, hence the ridiculous amount of counterpoint in both guitar parts and basslines.
"It is not as neoclassically-influenced in the progressions and phrasing as the other tracks since the melodies present here channel a different atmosphere, but it is just as varied and relentless, and it is probably the most diverse track on the album when it comes to the vocals. Our signature high-pitched riffing style that we've had since 2007 is present throughout the whole song but we've added a lot of twists and turns that you wouldn't find in any other of our songs." Following this special fest, the band will hit the road for a round of North American headlining dates as well as shows supporting Hatebreed and DevilDriver on select dates. Act Of Defiance guitarist Chris Broderick comments:
"I am extremely excited to get back out on the road to tour. Starting with the Pulp Festival, it will be the first time Act Of Defiance will play on a different continent and I couldn't think of a better festival to start with. After that, opening up for Hatebreed and DevilDriver will be a great experience for us as both of those bands put on a killer live show and will be awesome to see live. I'm also excited to do some more headlining shows in the U.S. and Canada, meeting more of our fans, and making more friends. I hope to see you all out there."
Adds drummer Shawn Drover: "For me, going back to the Philippines is something I am really looking forward to - the fans of heavy metal there are so amazing and I cannot wait to bring Act Of Defiance over to the Pulp Summer Slam Festival. As well, I am extremely excited about the Act Of Defiance 2016 North American tour - both headlining and playing several shows with Hatebreed, which will be crushing. Come out and rage with us!" Diamond Head Discusses Self-Titled Album
Although Diamond Head paved the way for the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, they never achieved the success of NWOBHM bands like Motorhead and Iron Maiden. Money never seemed to be the driving factor for The Midlands-based group, though. The band was interested in making good music. In fact, their penchant for writing good songs is what caught the eye of a fledgling Metallica who covered many of their songs live and on recordings such as the “Live Metal Up Your Ass” Demo and “Garage Days Revisited.” Once Metallica really broke out and became one of rock’s biggest successes, songs like “Helpless” and “Am I Evil” resonated with the metal establishment.
It’s not that Diamond Head hasn’t achieved some major success. In fact, at one time they were considered the second coming of Led Zeppelin. They signed to MCA Records to release “Borrowed Time” in 1982, but were dropped in ’85 and the band split up later. The group has split up and had large gaps between records, but forty-years later they are still relevant and on the verge of releasing their seventh album, a self-titled effort (due June 3rd).
Diamond Head’s career has depended on hard work. Even the self-titled effort, which comes thirty-six years after their “Lightning To The Nations” debut full-length, the band is still very much a DIY band. In fact, the forthcoming record was almost a self-release. There has to be something the reinvigorates artists to continue playing music for forty years without making major money. In the case of the self-titled album it’s very much due to new vocalist Rasmus Bom Andersen. In the following phone conversation, band original and lead guitarist Brian Tatler gives Metalunderground.com the scoop on creating said album and why he is so excited for his fans to hear the album.

Belphegor Accosted By Fanatic At Airport
Update: Belphegor has now issued a statement about both the airport fiasco and experiencing extreme censorship and cancelled shows in Russia on this trek. Read it over here.
Although there has been no official statement from the band at this point, a video is circulating of some sort of fundamentalist (apparently religious, but it's unclear as there are no subtitles) verbally accosting Belphegor at a Russian airport.
At one point the man even spits in a member of Belphegor's face (appears to be front man Helmuth?), and then hilariously doesn't like it when the favor is immediately returned.
Karl Sanders of Nile (out on tour with Belphegor) then steps in to stop the situation from escalating. Any of our Russian speaking readers able to translate this video for us?
