Liv Kristine Responds To Mediation Document Release, Announces Upcoming Collaboration
Following her former band releasing a mediation document from when Liv Kristine and Leaves' Eyes parted ways, Liv has now posted this message to fans and announcement about plans for upcoming music:
"1,200 messages - YOU ARE AMAZING! I have read all your heart-warming words and good wishes. This is the essence of our true and honest relationship. So much love to my fans and friends!
"Still, I am horrified - how can someone put a protocol not approved on by me online, without asking me for permission? I don't see the necessity in this. Anyway, it puts things straight: I was fired from my own band that day. A sudden action, and well planned.
"Let the past be past! Today I talked with Raymond (Theatre of Tragedy) for further cooperation. Are you ready? Who's in?"
For those who missed the unfolding train wreck, Liv and Leaves' Eyes very unexpectedly parted ways recently, which led to dueling statements about how the breakup went down and whether it was really a mutual decision.

coldiem, most bands are not named after their singer. Many fans will always be irrational, emotionally driven, but the identity of Leaves' Eyes is inextricably bound to Liv, far more than Nightwish to Tarja. That's why public opinion, which was split between Tuomas and Tarja in that case, is heavily in Liv's favor this time: even assuming it's all her fault, continuing to use the name "Leaves' Eyes" ("Liv's Eyes") brings more harm than good to the band.

There's also the fact that the band fired Liv just before the start of the current tour, after many fans had made large investments in tickets and transportation commitments to see them with Liv. In the post of the mediation document, the band claimed that the decision to replace Liv was secretly made back in January. The clear motive in keeping it secret was profit, and fans feel disrespected.
It's well known that, more than in other metal genres, symphonic metal singers are like pop idols to many fans. Certainly a lot of dedicated fans know and respect every band member, but probably more only really care about the voice. I think that's a natural consequence of the diva-oriented music and marketing. (This applies to Roy Khan too.) Symphonic metal is the only genre I really care about, but that's the way it is.
I assume it's an old problem in metal, given the scene in Spinal Tap where the band's lead singer is front and center in a promotional image, with the other members blurred to the point of unrecognizability in the background bokeh. Several years ago I saw a Leaves' Eyes member post "Leaves' Eyes IS Spinal Tap" on social media, though that was mainly a comment on the band's tour mishaps and constant exchange of drummers.

In the end of all this, who gives a shi!t? Bands lose members. Get over it.
