Near Announces "Own Sun" Release

Near's "Own Sun" is slated for release via De Tenebrarum Principio this coming May 6th, 2016. The label comments:

"There are dark feelings that just a raw and vicious formula can emphasize, the true black metal has been too long a label abused by project just repeating some external clichés. Near is part of the Dolomitic Northern-Italian black metal scene, a heritage of acts like Tenebrae in Perpetuum, Beatrik, Lorn, deeply connected to the territory, keeping the black flame burning into isolated lands.

"'Own Sun' stays, as the immortal feeling, manifesting a ’90 inspired album that will leave a further mark into glorifying dark side of nature, the cold winds blowing into the uncertainty of feeble human life."

The album's track listing is as follows:

1. Old Springs of Astral Matter
2. Invoking the Night
3. The Weight of Life
4. The Hidden Side of Mankind
5. The Eyes of the Ancient Trees
6. The Eternal Light of Illusion More...

Sylvaine comments: "The song 'Delusions' was a natural choice for the opening position of 'Wistful', as it captures the range of different expressions shown throughout the whole album very well. Blaak Heat Releasing "Shifting Mirrors"

Blaak Heat is an avant-garde, Parisian-American stoner rock trio, now signed Svart Records and prepping the "Shifting Mirrors" album for release on April 15th.

The band enlisted the help of Grammy Award-winning Matt Hyde (Deftones, Slayer) to produce the material that makes up this perilous and fervent third album. To get a taste of the album, check out a video for "Sword Of Hakim" below.

Discussing the nature of the album’s sound, guitarist/singer Thomas Bellier Bellier said: “We took our favorite Middle Eastern sounds, and reinterpreted them through the prism of our cultural baggage – weird European psychedelia, a healthy dose of vintage hard rock, experimental jazz... With Matt [Hyde], we were able to mix loud fuzz guitar tones along with traditional acoustic instruments, such as the oud and the kanun.” More...

Bat Unveils New Album

Hells Headbangers has set June 10th as the international release date for Bat's debut album, "Wings of Chains." This American speed metal cult has built up a considerable reputation the last couple years on the back of the "Primitive Age" demo and subsequent "Cruel Discipline" single as well as tireless treks across the United States.

Says bassist / vocalist Ryan Waste, "We are louder and prouder than ever with the completion of 'Wings of Chains,' our debut full-length. It's been a long time coming, so we decided to put every song we've written to date in a heavier package as one recording. I just finished solely tracking all the vocals for the album in my house, which was quite a milestone for me. Nick and Felix crushed it as usual, and it's safe to say these songs showcase BAT in our true live-sounding element." More...

Alkerdeel Announces "Lede" Album

Alkerdeel is back for a first full-length since 2012’s “Morinde.” The "Lede" album will drop via Consouling Sounds on April 15th, and the label had this to say:

"It might seem like a long time, but the Belgians have been very busy and during the last three years have released a couple of split-releases that hinted at the direction they were headed. They have also been working hard on putting together their third full-length 'Lede,' which is unmistakably their most gruesome release to date.

"'Lede' is undeniably Alkerdeel, that muddy and filthy sound is still present, yet the music evolved towards a more direct and head-on approach. Gone are most of sludge influences and now old-school influences and almost kraut-like psychedelics are pushed to the front. It’s more Winter and Von and less Neurosis or Burzum. Yet with a touch of Aluk Todolo."

Moonsorrow Posts "Suden Tunti" Video

Moonsorrow just released an an imated video for "Suden Tunti," which can be seen below, and Ville Sorvali comments:

"Here we have something big! A new song 'Suden Tunti' and it's official music video! This is the shortest song we've done in more than ten years! It has all the elements that make it a Moonsorrow track but it's still something we hadn't done before. This is the dark side of folk metal - the epic battle of Fenris and Odin from a new perspective."

“This is the day we never thought would come. We never thought we would release an official
Moonsorrow music video,” adds Mitja Harvilahti. “Writing music without compromises is hard enough. Making a video that catches the same spirit without compromises and awkward moments that takes away the credibility is even harder! We had a thought for some time that only an animated video with enough artistic flavor would work. Since Suden Tunti is somewhat based on actual myths it was possible to create the world where the script takes place!”

Moonsorrow's seventh studio album "Jumalten Aika" - which means "The Age Of Gods| in English
– will be released on April 1st, 2016 via Century Media Records. More...

Bloodred Releases New Lyric Video

Bloodred just released a lyric video for "The Hail-Storm," which can be seen below, and mastermind Ron Merz commented as follows:

"'The Hail-Storm' is one of the fastest and brutal songs on the new album. Black and death metal blend together to a massive whirlwind of rage in this piece of music. While the guitars shred without mercy, the drums hit you like a thunderstorm. Above all looms the harsh voice foreboding death and destruction.

"This is accompanied by the lyrics very well. 'The Hail-Storm' is based on a poem by George Borrows and describes the mythical sea battle between two rivaling viking clans (the poem in return is based on a part of the Jómsvíkinga saga). And while the battle is not going well, one captain deceides to sacrifice his son to gain the support of the godess Þorgerðr (anglicized as 'Thorgerd'). With her help the enemy is crushed by gigantic hail and many warriors die.

"This song came together pretty fast, I think it only took me a couple of hours to get it done. It was Joris (Nijenhuis) who suggested to write another fast song and I gladly accepted the challenge. This song is quite demanding to play, but the outcome justifies the effort. While the music is a massive I wanted to keep the lyric-video more simple. Thus the listener can immerse himself more into the music and the lyrics. However the renderings of this ancient battle complement the lyrics very well and add to the atmosphere of the song."

The release of the debut album strike from Bloodred, entitled "Nemesis," is scheduled for April 8th, 2016. More...

Metal Blade Records just issued this announcement about inking a new record deal with none other than Lizzy Borden:
