Nachtmystium has announced that they plan to re-release some recently unearthed old material. Here's the update from the band:
"Over the past few weeks, Nachtmystium has been going through the vaults of our old demo tape masters, rehearsal tapes from all eras of the band, finding versions of songs from all the full-lengths with completely different mixes, vocals, etc. It's all different and we're having a great time digging through all of this stuff and also finding ourselves rather surprised at how much of it is actually 'listenable'. So, we're going to compile a bunch of this stuff for you fans and find a way to release it digitally ourselves or perhaps stream the stuff at various host sites. We'll post here once we've finished compiling everything and have decided on how to release the material.
"There are also plans to compile all of the bonus tracks and compilation tracks from the 2000-2004 era (which includes our split 7" releases with Xasthur and Krieg, the demo version of 'Demise' track 'Ashes To Ashes,' which only appeared on the Live Blitzkireg LP release, etc.) and to release them on a CD or LP. We may take all of the above mentioned material and just release it all in a double LP set or some kind of collectors edition box set. Whatever it is, it will be limited as this is very much material that's geared towards the people who really get into the harsher area of the bands release history, which we realize is a much smaller audience than the ones we've reached with some of our more recent offerings. Keep an eye on the Nachtmystium facebook page here for updates on this ongoing project. Metal and Hellfire!"

Every week with Unearthing the Metal Underground we reveal three bands that deserve to be heard by a wider audience. After taking a look at experimental metal groups and instrumental bands with plenty of progressive elements, this week we’re heading straight into underground prog metal acts.
Throwing in jazzy interludes, unexpected changes in tempo and style, and usually a heaping dose of 70’s rock influence, prog has helped to keep the metal scene from stagnating and provides plenty of heaviness without always relying on outright brutality. There may be an odd contradiction of an entire genre called “progressive metal,” since the whole idea is that progressive music can’t be lumped into a single category and doesn’t follow the rules or format of a specific sub-genre. That whole sticky issue aside, these three bands explode with non-traditional song structures and a huge range of influences that make them well worth hearing for any fan of the more well known progressive metal acts, from Opeth to Dream Theater and beyond.
New Jersey’s Suspyre is the cream of the crop in the underground prog metal world, with production values and song writing chops on par with any huge name act. The band creates massive Opeth-length tracks, but still maintain consistent quality and amazing transitions across ten minute epics. Suspyre’s soaring power metal influence vocal work is especially worth hearing, and the band does even throw in a few growls here and there for a heavier edge.
The group’s last release was the 2008 “When Time Fades” album (reviewed here), but Suspyre is now working on a fourth album. To check out the act’s take on melodic prog metal, head over to the Suspyre Facebook profile or listen to the songs “The Light of the Fire” and “Siren” in the clips below.
The fourth album by Polish band Stillborn will be released on Septemper 1, 2011 by Ataman Productions. The album, entitled "Los Asesinos del Sur" (from Spanish "Murderers from the South"), contains 10 songs:
1. Overture .966
2. Hymn of Destruction
3. Diamonds of the Last Water
5. Son of the holy Motherfucker
6. Blood and Dust
7. Kot Wolanda
8. Los Asesinos del Sur
9. Stillborn II (Singularities of the Ordinary Vulgar Boor)
10. Whore of the Whores
Worldwide exclusive distribution is provided by Pagan Records.
The album was recorded during the winter of 2011 in Bochnia in Kwart Studio with Piotr Lekki as the sound engineer. Cover art was prepared by ataman Tolovy, and the booklet of the album is based on paintings of the young artist from Tarnów Kamil Kukla.
The Album will be released in standard CD format. You can check 2 new songs on Stillborn's MySpace.
Southern California metal outfit Elitist is set to release the “Earth” EP on October 25th, 2011 via Blkheart Group. You can also check out the band's previously uploaded music video for “Caves” at this location.
The EP was tracked by the bands guitarist Julian Rodriguez and mixed by Diego Farias from the band Volumes (MediaSkare Records). Julian Rodriguez talks about the recording process and what to expect:
"On this EP we strived to keep the same intensity and theme as Caves. However, wanted to have a more methodical approach to the songs. We wanted to make sure each song had a common theme that tied everything together, while maintaining a progressive sound. I think this EP is more aggressive but yet more rounded than Caves. The concept of the release is inspired by the Planet Earth Documentary series just as our prior release Caves was. I think people will recognize Earth as being mature sequel of our last release."
The track listing is as follows:
3. Of Creations

Behemoth and Grupa 13's latest collaboration will be for the song, "Lucifer," which comes from the "Evangelion" album and clocks in at over eight minutes long. The video was shot in Wroclaw, Poland and stars the song's guest vocalist, Maciej Malenczuk. The video is currently being edited and will see a worldwide premiere in September. Behemoth's last video for "Alas, Lord is Upon Me" was also produced with Grupa 13.
Behemoth front man Nergal comments: "We have teamed up with Grupa 13 again to shoot this amazing video…I must honestly say it was very refreshing cooperation. Darek is probably one of the most creative people I've met in this business and I love working with him. Every time we force ourselves to come up with even crazier ideas…This time we really made it very artistic and… still VERY disturbing. There's plenty of metaphors and symbolism in this video…the story is even more diverse, fucked up and out of control. I'm still digesting it… the video is being edited as we write these words…Stay tuned!"
Grupa 13's Dariusz Szermanowicz adds, "'Lucifer' is a song that completes the visual concept of the 'Evangelion' album. The evolution of the script was long and stormy, but in the end it surprised us with lots of last minute changes and new energy in the ideas! This time we've shot it in a studio environment, with minimum set design. We've prepared over a dozen episodes and strong scenes filled with emotions. There's still more than a month of editing and post-production ahead of us. We wouldn't like to disclose the plot now; I can only say that this clip will be different from the previous ones. However, some elements, symbols and atmosphere continue the stories which have been told in the previous music videos."
Photos from the "Lucifer" video shoot can be found by heading over to this location.

"We are announcing further shows soon which will make this tour the longest for many years I think. It will be around 150 days since March all around the world. It’s named 'Carnival Cadavre' and will be tested in human experiment at the Summer Breeze Festival in Dinkelsbühl on August 19th for the first time. Once again we produced our album with Corni Bartels at the Weltraum Studios and Björn Goosses (Killustrations) again purified our disc with a stunning artwork. We added another fine portion of groove and brutality for you and showed once again what Hackneyed is made of. With our new label Lifeforce Records we found the matching partner and we’re really looking forward to our future cooperation. We’re curious where our journey with the Carnival Cadavre will lead us within the next weeks and months. And perhaps soon it’s also close to you they say: The Circus’ Back in town!!!" More...
