Geelong death metal band Dawn of Retribution has announced that they are disbanding:
"After four years, countless shows around Australia, one critically acclaimed full length album and a hell of a lot of beers it with some sadness and some optimism for the future that Dawn of Retribution have decided to call it a day.
"This decision is not one that has been made lightly, and as individuals we are looking forward to what the future will present. Some of us will continue on with other musical projects that we hope will be as positively embraced as this one has been, others will treat this as an opportunity to focus on other aspects of life that have been somewhat neglected over the last few years of hard work within the band.
"While we believe this to be the right decision, this is a sad time for us. This disbanding is entirely amicable and we all remain and will continue to be very close friends. We have had some of our best experiences in the Australian music scene while working under the ‘Dawn of Retribution’ banner and we have made some amazing, lifelong friends and will retain some everlasting memories.
"One final show has been booked, and we promise you this will not be one to miss. Details will be released very soon and we are hoping to see you all there for one final, epic party. So as the dawn becomes a dusk, we look to farewell this chapter of music with one hell of a bang!"

Here is what Neurot owner Steve Von Till had to say about the signing: “Welcome Ufomammut to the Neurot family. Ufomammut is our kind of band. These sonic brothers from Italy are heavy, psychedelic, and driven. We couldn’t be happier than to have them working with Neurot Recordings for their next full-length album. Though we have been fans of their music for a while, being able to meet them and share the stage with them on our recent trip to Europe was awesome. We formed a great and meaningful bond, which of course is the most important aspect of what we do. We admire their prolific nature as visionary musicians, as members of the Malleus art collective, and as owners of their own label, Supernatural Cat. They truly embody the same spirit of music and art that we all strive for. Ufomammut is in the studio at this very moment working on their next epic.”
The band also commented, ”Working with Neurot signals an evolutionary change for Ufomammut. In the last years we’ve built up our own music world, doing everything by ourselves, working on our own art and recordings, creating a label, and taking care of every aspect of our projects. We feel very excited by this change because this confirms that we did a good job, especially coming from these guys who we have always considered a great inspiration.
"We’re sure this Neurot and Ufomammut friendship will open new perspectives and directions in our sonic adventure, because we feel we have the same vision and attitude about what music should be. In few words we feel totally honored and proud to become a part of the Neurot family."

Los Angeles traditional heavy metal act White Wizzard is preparing for the release of the new album "Flying Tigers," which hits stores in Europe on September 19th and in North America on November 15th.
The band's bassist and mainman Jon Leon recently took some time to speak to Classic Rock magazine about the meaning behind "Flying Tigers," a tribute to a legendary World War II fighter squadron. Jon Leon comments:
"When I wrote the music and lyrics for this song, it just seemed so visual that it lent itself to being the album title. The Flying Tigers was the name given to the First American Volunteer Group of the Chinese Air Force, and they took on the Japanese, who had far superior aircraft, with incredible success. Their kill to death ratio was amazing."
White Wizzard is also offering a free download of the track "Starchild" at this location.
"Flying Tigers" features the core White Wizzard line-up of bassist, songwriter, and founding member Jon Leon, drummer Giovanni Durst, and studio vocalist Wyatt Anderson, who featured on the band's debut album, "Over the Top." Turisas has announced that Jukka-Pekka Miettinen (ex-Arthemesia, Ensiferum) will be joining the band on bass for forthcoming shows, and Robert Engstrand (ex-Kotipelto, The Flower Kings) will be coming into a completely new role in the group as keyboard player.
These changes are in response to the news that current bassist Hannes Horma and accordionist Netta Skog have decided to leave the band due to personal and motivational reasons. This announcement will not affect Tursias' tours this Fall.
Turisas comments: "A band is not something that can be kept together by force. If someone wants to quit, there's not much the rest of us can do about that. Both for Hannes and Netta it came down to the same thing: a choice between the band and other personal interests had to be made. We tried to find a compromise where both could be combined, but unfortunately in both cases it didn't seem possible at their end. Neither Hannes or Netta played a critical role in the creative process and studio work of the band, so in this sense not much will change. Still, they were always great onstage and we shared many memorable moments together. We would like to make it very clear that there is no drama here, and thankfully no hard feelings. Both Hannes and Netta made their decisions completely independently, based on their own personal reasons. Their departures are not connected in any way, it was just that this short quiet period between the Euro festivals and the forthcoming touring was the only meaningful time to make a smooth changeover to the new members.
"We'd like to thank Hannes and Netta for all the good times we had together over the years, and wish them both the best of luck in the future. As far as Jukka-Pekka and Robert go, these guys are both very talented musicians, and we are very excited about hitting the road with this new lineup. Please welcome our newest reinforcements---this is the beginning of a new era!"
Hannes Horma joined the band on bass right after the release of the debut "Battle Metal" in 2004. He says: "My career with the band started 2004---at the time I was only nineteen years old. It felt like a dream come true and since then, we've had some amazing time and unbelievable shows during these years. For the past couple of years I've been studying orchestral composing, arranging and classical singing and with the touring responsibilities, I haven't had a lot of free time and couldn't pursue my other interests. Lately, I've also felt that the 'flame' is not there anymore for me personally: it was time for me to move on to do the things I feel most passionate about. I love playing concerts with Turisas but I cannot be on tour for 6 or more months a year and try to study at the same time---no one can.
"I would like to thank everybody I've met during the years, all the fans around the world, the bands we're toured with and our crew---you rock! I also hope all the best for everybody in TURISAS: thanks for letting me to be a part of this for all these years. It's been a hell of a ride but now it's my time to jump off. Hopefully we'll meet again, someday, somewhere." More...
