Norwegian black metallers Vreid kicked off the Black Path Of America Tour 2011 last week in Toronto and though their arrival was met with a series of weather calamities and one canceled show in NYC due to the prospective threat of Hurricane Irene, the band soldiers on.
Commented bassist Hváll: "Our North America tour has been filled with action so far. An earthquake upon arrival, tornadoes as we entered Toronto and then Irene came and shut down our New York show. Mother earth has unleashed her wrath upon us this time around. We are extremely disappointed that our New York show got canceled, but be sure that Vreid will return. We kicked ass in Toronto and had a great show; next up was Montreal which was massive. An absolutely fantastic show in all ways. The audience of Montreal has to be one of the most dedicated on this planet. Then we hit Kingston, New York. It was good to see people ignoring the rain and fear of Irene, to come to The Basement to rock like a hurricane. Now we are in Cleveland and ready to give a massive dose of Norwegian metal at Peabody's. We hope the upcoming shows will continue in the same good way as the first three. The audience in North America has once again shown their intense dedication, which makes these shows a blast for us. See you soon."

After months of delay due to problems with the studio where the band was recording, Brazilian death/doom metal band Lacryma Sanguine is resuming recordings for the new album "Amongst These Walls." The band commented on the upcoming album:

Lyrically, the album explores the medieval German folk phenomena of rat kings, which were associated with plagues that devastated the European continent.

Ontario's Ascariasis has checked in with the following update about the band's upcoming album:
"It's been awhile since we've released a concrete update with our progress, so we figured it was about time. Over the past year we've been writing material for our forthcoming release, and it's finally coming together now. This week, Devin and I are hoping to wrap up tracking our parts, as well as the mixing process so we can finally begin to assemble everything.
"For those of you wondering why this record has taken so long to manifest, it's been completely self produced. We're all broke students that can't afford studio time, so we've taken this task entirely upon ourselves, and it hasn't been easy. Needless to say, although we don't have a final release date, expect to see a final product within the next 1-2 months. That's not to say there won't be more songs coming your way until then, however.
"Anyway, onto the good stuff.
"Our full length record, Ocean of Colour will be released in Fall 2011. The album will feature 8 main tracks including revised versions of Against the Tempest and Torchbearer. Other song titles include: Shatter, Carving the Empire, Eleven, and of course, Ocean of Colour.
"No details yet as to if the record will be self released or not, but we can tell you that the artwork is currently being created by SOMEONE NOTORIOUSLY GOOD (The Black Dahlia Murder, Morbid Angel, Ulver). Stay tuned for more details, we can't wait for you guys to hear what we have to offer."

This underground Italian band plays dark and catchy old-school death metal with doom influences... taking inspiration from such classic early 90's bands such as Derketa, Impetigo, Mythic, Autopsy, Necrotomy, Hellhammer, Incantation, as well as the brilliant and morbid horror themes from such masters as Mario Bava, Dario Argento, and more! This is simply a match made in HELL...

In a recent post on Facebook, Slipknot percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan revealed that the band will be embarking on a headlining tour of the United States of America next year in June, but also stressed that the band is not working on a new album. His posting reads as follows:
"Slipknot will be touring by next June in America only, but that does not mean things will not change and as they do I will along with others tell you our family first.
"No album yet because it is to soon and there are no songs yet because the band needs to come together to write this next one. I can not wait to feel the ideas like choking on color.
"Everything happens for a reason, so be ready."
It’s really difficult to begin to describe The Living Fields for the uninitiated. They seem like a standard doom metal band at first, but then the violins/violas come in, along with the multiple vocal styles. All of a sudden, this unassuming doom metal band has traversed through genres ranging from progressive rock to death metal. It’s a sound that is equally confusing and mesmerizing. Their second album, “Running Out Of Daylight,” makes you work for its attention. After the first dozen listens, it starts to pay off.
What’s most amazing about “Running Out Of Daylight” is that the album was done by long-distance communication. The band members are scattered throughout all parts of the world, and it took guitarist/bassist Jason Muxlow years to get everything together. Muxlow is the main composer of the band, and oversaw the whole creation of the album. I had an opportunity to speak to Muxlow in early August about “Running Out Of Daylight” and how long-distance songwriting works. More...
Former Skid Row vocalist and solo artist Sebastian Bach has revealed that his house in the state of New Jersey, which he has lived in for twenty one years, has suffered massive damage as a result of the tropical storm Irene, which has been sweeping across the East Coast of America and left at least twenty people dead. A message from Bach posted on his Facebook page reads:
"I am numb, in shock, and devastated to report that my home of 21 years, my house featured on MTV Cribs, has been destroyed, condemned, and deemed uninhabitable due to the extreme flooding courtesy of Hurricane Irene. In the two decades I have lived in this home, there has never been a single drop of water in the basement or anywhere else in the structure. Now Irene has overflowed the reservoir adjacent...
"Somewhere under this water is a KISS pinball machine and two gargoyles from the Dynasty tour. If you see them floating past your house, they're mine. Or at least they were :("
American death/doom metal outfit Novembers Doom has announced that the band has decided to part ways with drummer Sasha Horn and will be searching for a new drummer immediately. A statement from the group reads as follows:
"Due to choices made by Novembers Doom’s drummer, Sasha Horn, in both his personal and professional life, only after much consideration, and a long year of a 1400 mile distance hurdle, Novembers Doom and Sasha Horn have decided to mutually part ways.
"For once this isn’t your typical 'musical differences' excuse, this is simply, due to distance and Sasha’s pursuit and focus in other directions, it became clear to all of us, he was no longer able to contribute the same dedication to Novembers Doom as the rest of the band. We wish Sasha the best in his future endeavors.
"As for the future of Novembers Doom, we are currently seeking to fill this position. Anyone interested in this opportunity can contact us through email@example.com.
"Several projects are already in the works, and where it’s too soon for any formal announcements, we can assure you, Novembers Doom’s best days are yet to come."
Located out in the Caribbean between Cuba and Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic has long been an island nation melting pot for a variety of cultures and styles brought over by the millions of tourists and influences that converge upon it. Dominicans are known in America for the crop of professional baseball players they produce and in our large Hispanic community for the stream of bachata/merengue music along with the superstar reggaeton production duo Luny Tunes.
The times are changing though, and the rich history that the Dominicans have had with folkloric rock music has gradually come to include all genres of popular rock/metal throughout the last couple of decades. Bands such as Toque Profundo and M-16 have opened up the floodgates to more extreme categories of rock music, producing the likes of Ad Bestia's hardcore, Santuario's punk rock, the thrash of Necro, good traditional thrash from Overhated and the power metal of Altus Mortem. For a comprehensive look into the Dominican Republic's rich rock history, check out the two-part video Dominican Rock Pt 1 and 2 to gain a greater insight into the scene.
Nowadays, with home studio computer equipment and social networking, hundreds of young bands are cropping up all over the Dominican landscape. In fact, a few homegrown independent labels now showcase the talents of the more extreme Caribbean bands - Dark Canvas and Goecia records. Today we will take a look at three of the most deserving and hard working bands paying their dues in the trenches of Santo Domingo.
Conceived in 1994, Archaios are the premier melodic techno-thrash band from Santo Domingo. Fusing intricate leads with an abundance of bridges and time changes, this is one band that deserve a further listen. Their new one, "The Distant," drops in November and is an exponentially good progression from their debut, 2006's "Out of the Shadows." You can check out their songs in full at their Myspace page and listen to the promotional sampler clip below, plus a few other tracks from their debut. Also, you can read a full interview with the band here.
It has been a long journey for Dominican metallers Archaios, one lasting nearly two decades. Although releasing their debut "Out of the Shadows" five years back, Archaios had yet to find a core audience outside of their island homeland due to lack of label support and logistics. This could very well change in 2011 when their new album "The Distant" is released. That darker thrash sound they were known for has metamorphosized into techno-melodic stylings that are sure to win over a serious, mature metal audience. Their new label, Dark Canvas, supports them all the way and is busy putting all the pieces in place for a tour of the US sometime in the coming year. We sat down with guitarist Eric Cruz to get inside the mindset of the Dominican Republic's premier thrash band and listen to his version of the path Archaios are on. More...

"Mortal Sin are proud to announce we have signed to NoiseArt/Rock The Nation for the release of our new album Psychology of Death! What we wanted to do was a simple thrash album, sometimes you can get so caught up in the complexities of everything that you forget about what thrash is all about. This time around we said we wanted to go back to our roots, we we’re going to write an album like Mayhemic Destruction, simple old school thrash! This is by far our fastest and heaviest album to date. We really wanted to grab people by the balls with this one!"

Sunset Nation has issued the following statement about the band's show at the Toyota Speedway being cut short:
"First and foremost, thank you to everyone who came out and supported yesterday's show at the Toyota Speedway. For 2 months Sunset Nation has been promoting this event and was scheduled to perform for 2+ hours. After Sunset Nation's first of two sets, the band was approached by the people of Adrenaline Radio and Metal Mulisha who expressed Sunset Nation was easily the best band the Speedway has booked in all of the years they have been promoting these events. All Seemed well...
"5 Songs into Sunset Nation's second set, the band was notified that the owner of the Toyota Speedway was demanding the plug be pulled. He felt the brand of metal music was too heavy and inappropriate for the Speedway's clientele. Only for the speedway 1 hour later to open the racing event with Metallica's 'No Leaf Clover'...
"Most bands, and most humanoids for that matter, would have allowed this type of disrespect to prevail and simply accepted such insolence with zero consequences. They fucked with the wrong band. When someone buys a ticket to see a Sunset Nation show, they will see the entire show, or the band promises to make the culprit regret they ever fucked with the Sunset Nation family.
"Immediately following the plug being pulled, Bryan Ross methodically marched over to the owner's cronies and demanded that the Sunset Nation audience be compensated for their tickets. The owner clearly felt he was untouchable and that the Sunset Nation family were some dumb metal kids wasting his precious time. Bryan Ross quickly made him regret his foolish ways by making him fear the wrath of our Metal Gods and simply threatening to kick his pompous ass. Security threatened to have Ross arrested while he laughed in their faces... In the end, Ross warned the negligent owner that Sunset Nation will pay him a visit again one day and be bringing him a gift...
"So, to all of you who purchased a ticket to yesterday's event, we are now officially buying everyone's ticket to our next show on September 15th..We do what we say and say what we do... Fuck the Machine..."
