Long Island hardcore act This is Hell recently wrapped up recording for the follow-up album to "Weight of the World," which is currently set for release sometime in October. Shortly after finishing up the studio stint, guitarist Rick Jimenez corresponded with Metalunderground.com to fill us in on the recording sessions and discuss what fans are going to hear on the upcoming album.
Jimenez delves into his recent obsession with all things Metallica and the new album's more metal-centric approach, the socially conscious lyrical content that will be found on the disc, New York's hardcore scene, and even the recent death of Cipher drummer Daniel Bobis. Check out the full interview below to get a glimpse into This Is Hell's world and find out about the band's upcoming live activity. More...
Nervecell has posted the first in a series of video clips online answering fan submitted questions and showcasing the band's recent festival appearances. This clip, which shows the Brutal Assault fest, Rock im Betonwerk, and and Summer Breeze, can be viewed below.
It’s been over a year since Metal Underground.com has talked to Away, drummer for the long-standing band Voivod. Through decades of changes in personnel and sound, Voivod has remained a metal icon, recently playing at Maryland Death Fest IX and Roadburn Festival to screaming fans. They premiered a new song live at the fests which is part of a new album currently being written. I was able to talk to Away for some time about the album, Voivod's history, and the many influences that have shaped their sound. More...
French death metal act The Seven Gates has issued the following announcement about splitting with the band's vocalist:
"The Seven Gates just parted ways with vocalist/bass player Vincent Urbain due to personal reasons and divergences of view regarding the band's musical evolution.
"But having been the former administrator of the Myspace and Facebook pages, he still owns all the passwords and codes and keeps spreading rumors about the band having stopped its activities, which is untrue.
"The Seven Gates' new front man is David Boutarin (ex-Decent, ex-Destinity) and the band is currently working onto some fresh material to appear on the forthcoming album."

Three tracks are currently available online for streaming from New York post black metal act So Hideous, My Love...

The track listing is as follows:
1. Seventh Crusade
2. With A Stranger's Eye
3. Child of Rock'n'roll

The House of Blues once again had issues with their guest list coming in too late. And of course that meant that I missed the first three acts and therefore have absolutely nothing to say about Within the Ruins, Fleshgod Apocalypse or As Blood Runs Black. Despite me giving an otherwise positive review to the new Fleshgod Apocalypse album, I had to wait in the front foyer while they played.
Thankfully, I was able to get into the venue by the time that Oceano began playing. Even though I hate ripping on hometown bands, Adam Warren sounded like he was choking on something throughout the entire set. Outside of their vocalist sounding hoarse the entire time, there was nothing remarkable about Oceano. They're yet another generic deathcore band that does nothing to stand out. I seriously can’t tell the difference between them and about twenty other deathcore bands that I've heard.
After Oceano finished playing, I was thankfully treated to Powerglove, a video game music cover band. I'll be the first guy to admit that I'm a complete and utter nerd and I've been a gamer since the Sega Genesis, so I naturally loved this band. And given that there is a TON of video game music that needs a metal remix, I'm hoping to see Powerglove have a long and prosperous career. (They still need to cover Grabbag from Duke Nukem 3D.)
And even for non-gamers out there, Powerglove put on a VERY good show. Between having a contest to bring the band the head of a stuffed animal and tossing blow-up swords into the audience, they were clearly one of the best band's there in terms of sheer theatricality. I'm really looking forward to seeing this band do a longer set in the future. More...
We've been seeking out bands and fans everywhere to get their most memorable and outrageous mosh pit stories. This week we have a tale to share from screamer Trevor Tatro, of Oklahoma six piece Outline in Color, about an unfortunately vomit-fueled altercation in the pit.
Over the years I've been to a plethora of shows. Whether I'm playing one or attending I always try to keep an eye on the pit. Usually I'm not windmilling or two stepping because I have the stature of a buffer Rosie O' Donnell and when I dance I look like a orangutan on meth.
Anyways there's one blumpkin of a pit that comes to mind from a few years back at what I think was a Stick to Your Guns show (I don't remember, it might have been this sick Metro Station show but anyways...). There was a select group of pasty suburb kids as tall as yard sticks who were attempting to do that wheelbarrow jumping jack move that basically screams "yah I could mosh but I'd rather fellate/get kissy with my step dad." While doing this the pair of goons bumped into the wrong tough guy. In mid air tough guy donkey kicks the kid who ran into him right in the stomach, which I felt was a proper reaction at the time. This led to a fit of puking and getting butthurt among friends but that didn't stop him from getting up and throwing some punches (all the while covered in vomit and tears). Needless to say raging wasn't this guys' forte and colonel creatine fed him fists for a minute until security broke it up.

Be sure to check back in next Tuesday as we share more band and fan submitted Pit Stories.
Tony Iommi has commented on news that has been circulating since yesterday of a Black Sabbath reunion:
"I'm saddened that a Birmingham journalist whom I trusted has chosen this point in time to take a conversation we had back in June and make it sound like we spoke yesterday about a Black Sabbath reunion.
"At the time I was supporting the Home of Metal exhibition and was merely speculating, shooting the breeze, on something all of us get asked constantly, 'Are you getting back together?'"
"Thanks to the internet it's gone round the world as some sort of 'official' statement on my part, absolute nonsense. I hope he's enjoyed his moment of glory, he won't have another at my expense.
"to my old pals, Ozzy, Geezer and Bill, sorry about this, I should have known better.
All the best, Tony"
While Iommi may feel betrayed by the article, the quotes are a little too specific - unless completely fabricated, which he did not contend - to deny the reunion is taking place. We'll post more information on the matter as it becomes available.

Metal Blade Records will be releasing the new Martyr album "Circle Of 8." During the five years that Dutch act Martyr was alive and kicking (1982-1987) the band released two classic metal albums "For The Universe" (1985) and "Darkness At Time's Edge" (1986).

Comments the band: "Martyr is really pleased to have the new album "Circle Of 8" released by Metal Blade Records. It feels like a reunion with metal friends for us after the "Metal Massacre VI" release in 1986!"

After 15 years of friendship, hard work, and passion fully invested in the creation of symphonic music and an epic saga that will remain in the history of heavy metal, Alex Staropoli and Luca Turilli decided to proceed with a friendly split.
"10 albums released and the end of the saga represent, musically and lyrically, an important artistic goal finally reached, underlined by the success of our last release 'From Chaos To Eternity,' for which we want to thank our wonderful fans once again. Now it came the time when new artistic stimulations need to be found, in respect of both parts' visions and perspectives and of our longtime friendship" say Luca and Alex.
Due to the latest legal agreements actually in force, Alex Staropoli will go on with Rhaposdy of Fire, with Fabio Lione as singer, Tom Hess as guitar player and Alex Holzwarth as drummer. For the same agreements and the original name's common ownership, Luca Turilli will release his future works with a new Rhapsody band, including the band members Dominique Leurquin, Patrice Guers and Alex Holzwarth.
Alex says: "While wishing the best to Luca and his new band, I want to tell you that Fabio and myself feel motivated and stronger than ever and that Rhapsody of Fire are already planning a great worldwide tour. More information regarding the new bass player and the new second guitar player will follow. Stay tuned!"

Katatonia has announced several special 20th anniversary North American shows in celebration of two decades of gloom and doom. The headlining “Last Fair Day Gone Night 2011” performances will take place in the United States and Canada while the band is in North America for the upcoming “Heritage Tour” with fellow Swedish heavyweight, Opeth. Full dates for “Last Fair Day Gone Night 2011” and the “Heritage Tour” can be seen below. Guitarist Anders Nyström issued the following statement in anticipation of the “Heritage Tour:”
"Both you and we know that North America damn well deserves to see more of Katatonia, right? So how could we possibly resist heading back to the States this fall when Opeth are giving us the opportunity to be their special guests? It was just a matter of time before it had to happen again. Yes we toured together in the same formation ten years ago in Europe, and not only was that tour very well received by both bands’ fans, but we also shared a great ride together as long time friends. Some people have even been calling this bill their ‘dream line-up’, so it's only fair that the loyal fans in North America now get their piece of the cake too! So come out and see us on this great tour and remember we're playing headlining sideshows as well! Looking forward! Cheers!"

Update: Tony Iommi has commented on the original news article but not exactly refuted the claim. You can read his comments here.
Multiple sources are reporting that Black Sabbath is to regroup with their original lineup to record a new studio album next year. Vocalist Ozzy Osbourne and guitarist Tony Iommi reportedly wrote new material for the record in June of this year. The album would mark the first to feature Ozzy since 1978's "Never Say Die." The band is said to be currently rehearsing for a new tour.
"We’re really looking forward to it and I think the stuff we’ve been writing is really good," said 63-year-old Iommi. "It’s more back to the old original stuff."
He added that the reunion has been kept under wraps for some time.
"It’s all been very hush-hush. Ozzy's been the worst at trying to hold it back. He's doing a lot of TV and he’s being asked stuff about a reunion and he's going ‘well I never say never’."
Iommi said his only concern about the current reformation was the health of drummer Bill Ward who in the past has suffered a heart attack.
"He hasn’t been 100 per cent. He had an operation a few months ago, so we’ll see how he is."
Iommi's last version of Black Sabbath, dubbed Heaven & Hell, came to an end when singer Ronnie James Dio died in May 2010.

British heavy metal veterans Atomkraft has revealed that they will be releasing a new EP entitled, "Cold Sweat" on August 29th through W.A.R. Productions. Thin Lizzy's Scott Gorham also commented: "I actually really liked this version of 'Cold Sweat' a lot. Cool solo. I also liked the way Atomkraft made the song their own with the arrangement and production. Very cool." More...
Dominican Republic death metal band ARCHAIOS will finally be releasing their first full-length album through Dark Canvas Records. Slated for an autumn 2011 release, "The Distant" was recorded and produced by the band in their hometown Santo Domingo and mixed and mastered in Illinois, USA by Kanky Lora (who has worked with Cavalera Conspiracy, Straight Line Stitch and Mark Rizzo Band). The stunning cover artwork was designed by Brazilian artist Carlos Fides.
After almost three years in the making, "The Distant" will be the first Dominican metal recording to be released internationally by a North American record label.
Since its inception in the Dominican underground scene in 1994, the band has enjoyed favorable popularity among local fans of extreme music. However, their country’s predominant right-wing media has never paid serious attention to the band beyond calling the band “a musical oddity” or to using it as target for censorship campaigns against metal music. In spite of this, the group has become one of the main driving forces of the scene, being praised for the quality of their musicianship and their intense and dramatic stage performances. Due to past line up changes, economic constrains and poor logistic support, Archaios has only released some demos and their debut album "Out of the Shadows" (2006). Although this recording was warmly received locally, the lack of support from a proper record label denied the band the possibility of making an impact in the international metal community.
However, things are about to change for ARCHAIOS. A U.S. tour is being scheduled for 2012 as ARCHAIOS prepares to become the first Dominican metal band to tour North America.
In This Moment has become of metal's biggest acts, landing a slot on multiple high profile tours over the past several years. In less than half a decade the band has risen from obscurity to superstar status thanks in no small part to the support of Century Media Records.
Metalunderground.com recently got the chance to talk to Maria Brink during the Chicago stop of the All Stars Tour. More...
