A follow-on from last year's "Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa" album, "Evermore Darkly" will arrive as a CD/DVD package including new tracks and rarities, with a lengthy on-the-road documentary and ten songs filmed live at this year's Graspop metal meet, as well as the video for "Lilith Immaculate."

Kittie Posts "Empires (Part 2)" Video

Kittie has posted a music video online for the song "Empires (Part 2)," which can be viewed below. Front woman Morgan Lander offers her own words: "'Empires (Part 2)' is the second half, and more frantic portion of a two part idea. Part 1 is the acoustic calm before the storm while Part 2 is a full on hurricane. The subject matter likens a union or relationship to the idea of a great empire and as history has taught us; even the most mighty and powerful of empires crumble and fall eventually. Nothing is forever."

Noctum Signs To Metal Blade Records

Swedish occult rock act Noctum has signed a deal with Metal Blade Records. The band was formed in September 2009 by bassist Tobias Rosén, David Indelöf (Vocals/Guitar), and Gustaf Heinemann (Drums). After a short while Per Wikström (Guitar) came along. In October of 2009 the band recorded its first songs and after only two weeks was signed with the German label High-Roller Records for the upcoming full-length album.

In June 2010 Noctum entered Studio Oblivion for the first time to record that debut album. With less than 24 paid studio hours the act recorded "The Séance," which was released through High-Roller Records (vinyl) and Stormspell Records (CD) in September 2010.

Noctum decided to make the band's first trip to Germany for a couple of dates in April 2011. After touring the act went into the studio once again to record the upcoming EP "The Fiddler," including two brand new tracks and one Pentagram cover of "Lazy Lady."

Noctum comments on the deal with Metal Blade as follows: "We're very pleased to announce a new chapter in Noctum's history! We have now signed a worldwide record deal with one of the leading record labels, Metal Blade Records! We're thrilled to work with such experienced people – people who started out as regular tape-traders back in the days and worked their way to the top among thousands of labels. People who have managed to stick around and keep the fire burning, stronger than ever before. This is a new beginning, Stay tuned."

After the summer Noctum decided to split ways with guitarist Per Wikström and the group is now looking for a replacement. If you live in Sweden and would like to join this journey, please send an email to seanceswe@gmail.com.

Jonathan Joubert To Guest On Excommunicated Album

Chad Kelly, producer and CEO of Underworld Records, recently tapped Jonathan Joubert to write and perform on Excommunicated's debut album, "Skeleton Key," which will feature members of Borknagar, Catholicon, Suture, and guest appearances form Andy La Roque (King Diamond) and Vincent Crowley (Acheron). Excommunicated commented on the album:

"Skeleton Key is a death/black metal album which tackles the corruption of the medieval Catholic church. The music is thought provoking and dark, which pulls this listener into moments of contemplative destruction. Lyrically, Skeleton Key is not your run of the mill black metal record. These guys are scholars on the subject and are meant to be taken seriously."

Jonathan Joubert also added, "I have always been a fan of black metal, though many times I find the lyrics tend to be written just to frighten parents and shock people. Excommunicated does more than shock people. It strikes at the heart of entire movement and culture that denies its history and hides its dark side. Skeleton Key is an album that sheds light on what the masses tend to overlook. I am proud to be a part of it."

Suicide Silence Guitarist Talks About New Album

Suicide Silence has a loyal following with their reckless, yet catchy, brand of death metal. It’s not complex music, relying on breakdowns and one-note riffs, but it’s hard to stay seated to their hard-hitting attack. The band has spent the last two albums building up their repertoire, and now they are crowning themselves as head honchos with “The Black Crown.” Songs like “Fuck Everything” and “Slaves To Substance” are anthems for a disillusioned youth, which should get over quite well in a live setting. I had the opportunity to talk to guitarist Mark Heylmun in early August about the creation of “The Black Crown” and the difficulty in writing simple riffs. More...
