Each week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we look at underground bands that embody the metal genre and this week is no exception as we focus on Ogden, Utah. The metal that comes from this area and nearby is astounding, they are metal bands that fly under the mainstream radar but have metal music seared into their souls.
Better known as O-Town to locals, Ogden has an impressive emerging underground music scene. However, the metal reverberating out of this area is distinguishable for the simple fact that they bring it hard, with every show, every song and with every note. Three bands stand out from the pack for a variety of reasons, one being they scorch your souls with their intensity and two… because they are metal to the core.
"The Dead Gates- the entrance to eternal suffering where the hounds of hell feast upon the damned," an apt description for a band as hardcore as these boys. Hailing from Ogden, Utah, these metalheads have taken the Wasatch Front by storm, not only banging heads with O-Town fans but creating a solid fan base throughout Utah. By combining searing guitar riffs, irresistibly heavy bass lines and drum beats of ferocious proportions they create a melodic yet forceful tone that cascades over you. Add that to the vehement growls and intense vocals and you get an effectual sound that is as savage as it is addicting. Deadgates is: Sam E. (vocals), Josh W. (guitar), Mat L. (guitar), Kirk T. (bass), and Matt H. (drums). Check them out on their Facebook on Myspace and on Youtube.

Bradlee Dean, president of the "You Can Run But You Can't Hide" Christian ministry, who describes himself as a "heavy metal preacher" and "a renowned hard metal rocker who came to Christ after suffering a hard life as a young boy," is suing political commentator Rachel Maddow for $50 million. Dean is a member of the band Junkyard Prophets, which is the official band of the ministry.
According to the complaint from Dean, which can be read here, he is suing Maddow for defamation when she quoted Dean's views on homosexuality, Christianity, and Islamic Sharia law, which was taken from a radio show Dean took part in.
The complaint alleges Maddow and other news stations are attempting to discredit him in order to harm the presidential campaign of Michelle Bachmann, stating "This explains the malicious attacks on Bradlee Dean and his ministry, which are being used to harm the presidential campaign of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, who is a conservative Christian."
The quote in question from Dean is as follows, and the television segment in which Maddow discussed the issue can be viewed below (the section about Dean starts at 1:40):
"Muslims are calling for the execution of homosexuals in America. They themselves are upholding the laws that are even in the Bible, the Judeo-Christian God, but they seem to be more moral than the American Christians do. Because these people are livid about enforcing their laws. They know homosexuality is an abomination. If America won't enforce the laws, God will raise up a foreign enemy to do just that."
A statement from Dean regarding his remarks and the news commentators that have reported on it can be found here.
You can also check out Bradlee Dean's website for his film "My War: The Testimony of Bradlee Dean" by heading over to this location.

It will show that this music exists everywhere, it will give an unique insight in today's society through the eyes of the underground metal community and hopefully at the same time kill many prejudices people might have about this part of the world.
"We have been working on this project for 3 years now and it will be unleashed this November if all goes as planned. Right now we have a Crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo where all supporters around the world can contribute to the completion of this book, and we need all help we can get to spread the word about both the book and the campaign."

The video for Push Pull Destroy was shot by Roy Warner Creative & Videography on location at the Yankee Air Museum, located on the grounds of the historic Willow Run Airport. It was at Willow Run where Henry Ford mobilized his manufacturing base to contribute to the war efforts by mass producing the B-24 Liberators that provided American Air Power to win WWII for the Allies. The band also commented on the clip:
"The video was shot in front of a number of military aircraft, including a B-52 Stratofortress and a C7 Caribou with a special appearance by the B-17 Yankee Lady, one of the only ten surviving flyable B-17s in the world. The Yankee Air Museum is the home to the Yankee Lady, long considered to be the most beautifully restored of all of the remaining flyable planes. This picture is of particular significance because only a day prior to the video shoot, the B-17 Liberty Belle crash landed outside of Chicago, IL and was destroyed. The crew exited safely before the plane was engulfed by flames---another testament to her strength and service to protect its crew.
"Portions of the video were shot at the former Packard Automobile Plant in Detroit, MI. Long abandoned and in ruins, the shoot location is reminiscent of the destruction in Germany by the mighty eighth air force of WWII."

Hatesphere has checked in with the following announcement about the band's upcoming new album:
"Finally, after having spent most of June in the studio the new album is done and soon ready to be presented to all of you. 'The Great Bludgeoning' will be released on the following dates around the world via Napalm Records: ESP/FIN/SWE: 21.09.2011 G/A/S, Benelux & ITA: 23.09.2011 Rest of Europe: 26.09.2011 USA/CAN 27.09.2011.
"The album is produced, mixed and mastered by our long time friend Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Sick Of It All, Moonspell, Dark Tranquillity) at the Antfarm Studios in Aarhus, Denmark, and cover artwork is done by Mircea Gabriel Eftemie, who has previously worked with Soilwork, Strapping Young Lad and Mnemic (where he also swings the guitar)... and also did our 'Ballet of the Brute' cover!
"We have aimed the new album in a more old-school direction than its predecessor. With people this experienced joining the band it has been a very relaxed and enjoyable process to write the songs, and we have all agreed on the concept. More metal and everything that follows. The cover, the title and the lyrics speaks for themselves. We are an angry-sounding metal band, and we have no intention of denying that. That's why the cover is more back-to-the-roots and the lyrics are again about aggressions, drinking and hate. The things that HateSphere has always been about. Expect brutality, melody and groove in just the right dose. We have had one hell of a time writing and recording it, and we cant wait to present the album to all of you before long! Within a month or so, we will have the first song snippet and video ready for you - so keep your eyes and ears open. More info soon!"
The track listing and cover artwork for the new album are available below.

3. Smell Of Death
5. The Wail Of My Threnode
