Edguy/Advantasia vocalist Tobias Sammet was interviewed by Harmon Caldwell on Edguy's official website (Edguy.net). He talked about the writing process behind the band's forthcoming LP "Age of the Joker" (EU: 08/26/2011; NA: 09/13/2011).
When asked about the motivations for writing the LP's first single "Robin Hood," Sammet responded "Attila the Hun, Odin, the sons of Odin, Cinderella, Humpty Dumpty... I can hardly think of a more or less historically relevant swashbuckler who hasn't been the main topic in a song, sung by Heavy Metal men in furry loin cloths. Except from Robin Hood, maybe the story of Robin Hood is too complex, haha! I just thought it is so over-the-top, it embraces everything that Rock and Metal are all about. It's more Spinal Tap than Spinal Tap ever were."
Sammet also responded to the mixed criticism the band received on previous LP "Tinnitus Sanctus," stating "The fact that certain magazines bash whatever we do is no big news, we know what they'll write even before we enter the studio. As a matter of fact, we don‘t fit in their scheme, but down the line it really doesn't matter what some desk- or internet-hero writes. AGE OF THE JOKER seemingly has all our trademarks and is considered a back-to-the-roots album by some press guys, which theoretically could be a proof that we have our own signature sound which makes us proud, but nothing was forced. I also love TINNITUS SANCTUS, it is a great album, my favorite Edguy album to date. It's sad some people didn't understand it and I respect that. But this is not proof for inferior quality. What counts is that AGE OF THE JOKER is a great album, you know that, the EDGUYs know that, our producer Sascha Paeth knows that, and our fans will find out shortly. The rest of the world can kiss my ass!"

Heavy metal veterans Metallica and Lou Reed, the legendary singer and former frontman of The Velvet Underground, has announced that the name of their forthcoming collaboration album will be, "Lulu." The record's title comes from the plays of German expressionist writer Frank Wededkind's plays "Earth Spirit" and "Pandora's Box," which tell a story of a young abused dancer's life and relationships and are now collectively known as the "Lulu Plays." For more information on the plays and how they serve as the inspiration behind the album, please visit http://www.loureedmetallica.com/. CBGB's may well be known as one of the most famous clubs in the world, having been home to many bands from The Ramones to Agnostic Front, but it's staff has plenty of connections to music too, not least of which was the club's sound man Tommy Victor and doorman Mike Kirkland, who would soon form their own band, Prong. Prong was completed a few months after Victor and Kirkland (Vocals/guitar and bass respectively) began jamming together when the band recruited former Swans drummer Ted Parsons. Having essentially being born from the best place for hardcore in New York, it's no surprise that the early Prong material was very much rooted in the genre. Following their debut released, the EP "Primitive Origins" and the full length, "Force Fed," the band were able to secure a major label deal when they signed with CBS Records for their next release, "Beg To Differ." The album was a critical smash, earning rave reviews from big name publications like Rolling Stone and the praise continued even after Kirkland left the band was replaced by Flotsam And Jetsam bassist Troy Gregory, when Prong released their third full length album, "Prove You Wrong," which featured an almost bizarre cover of the punk classic "(Get A) Grip (On Yourself)" by The Stranglers.
"Prove You Wrong" also featured the band's first experimentation with electronic sounds such as sampling and programming, a feature which was to be expanded upon on the next album, "Cleansing," which was released in 1994. With a sound more grounded in industrial metal and Pantera producer Terry Date behind the mixing board, the record proved to be hit, containing such fan favourites as "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck" (which was used by Extreme Championship Wrestling as the theme for the wrestler, Justin Credible) and "Broken Peace." The album also garnered Prong support slots on some major tours, including supporting Sepultura on their "Chaos A.D." tour, and performing with Pantera who were celebrating the release of their number one album, "Far Beyond Driven." Xandria has issued the following statement about the recent news of the band signing to Napalm Records:
"Finally we can present some very exciting news: there is a new Xandria album to come and we already roughly can reveal when this is going to hit record stores. We are working intensively to have the new longplayer out in early 2012!
"You all know why it took such a long time, but this was due to our search for THE right singer fit as well as for a few other business reasons. After Manuela had joined us in December last year, we got to speed in all essential business talks and finalized our songwriting, hence we are happy to announce that we now officially are part of the Napalm Records family!
"It took this time because we wanted to make sure that we would have the best conditions to record the new album the way we want it, and Napalm and us shared the same ideas, objectives and visions from the very beginning on. We are very confident Xandria and Napalm Records with its roster and expertise will make a great team! And last but not least, this past half a year with Manuela before starting to record the album was important to grow together as a band again, and also to let the songs combine with her new wonderful voice.
"We already have begun the recordings for the new album, to last throughout the rest of the summer. With mixing and the final mastering the work will be taking until end of this year, hence we are happy to proudly present the new album by early next year. In the meantime, Xandria will also be touring as part of the 'Out Of The Dark Festival Tour' along with VanCanto, Tristania, Serenity and Amberian Dawn, hitting European stages in early fall. More dates to be announced soon. please check our live dates' section online and watch out for a place near you to catch up with us!"

Swedish act Malfeitor has issued the following recording update for the "Dum Morior Orior," the band's upcoming full-length album:
"Here's a quick update on the recording progress. Right now, all 10 tracks for the upcoming full length, are going through an extreme drum-treatment by doctor J.Björkenfjäll! Total badass drumming that will make this album crush!
"The mighty 'beard' has recorded his evil throat on a bunch of the tracks! There might be some vocal collaboration on this album so stay tuned for more details!
"Also, Moberg are almost finished with the sound engineering for the devastating guitars. They will have a little more bite than the ones on the demo, but the total sound will still be unpolished old school for sure!
"Somewhere during the recording process we will post a studio-video-teaser of a new track, so stay evil and tuned! Make sure to get our demo-tape, split CD with Birch Mountain and old school t-shirt!"
