Toronto party thrashers Fatality have posted the final tour blog online from the band's "Western Annihilation Tour." You can check out an excerpt from the blog below.
"So far on this tour, we have been in this godforsaken van for roughly 150 hours. That’s about 5 days in a row innit? Damn, that’s a lot of time to reflect on how awful I am, while simultaneously smelling other peoples flatulents.
"One of the hardest drives was to Phoenix, Arizona. It is the kind of heat that just makes you want to weep openly in front of all of strangers. The kind of humid thick heat that makes you sluggish, shiny and uncomfortable. We still managed to maintain some optimism because we were headed for the Inner City Youth Centre to play with one of our favorite bands on the planet: Vektor. For those who don’t know, Vektor is a fantastic 4 piece metal band that plays a very unusual and progressive style of thrash metal. Nothing better then playing a set and then sitting back with a few Millers and watching one of the best bands on the continent. The Vektor boys were also nice enough to let us stay at their house, which was a treat. The bass player Frank entertained the shit out of us by blowing up beer cans in the backyard with his assortment of weapons. More...

Vreid will also be heading to North America in just a few short weeks. "The Black Path Of America" tour 2011 will commence on August 25th in Toronto and tear through over a dozen cities. Vreid will be joined by pagan black metal co-headliners Kampfar and Canadian death metal ensemble Necronomicon.

Jeff Loomis returns to the studio at the end of this month to begin recording his sophomore solo album, with Aaron Smith (7 Horns 7 Eyes) producing the album. "He [Smith] has been a friend for a while now and has helped me out with various recording projects over the years." Says Loomis. "We've been working on demos and pre-production for the past few weeks and are very happy with the way things are turning out."
Loomis has also enlisted a roster of musicians to back the project. Dirk Verbeuren of Soilwork will be tracking drums, and Shane Lentz will be handling bass. Loomis added, "Doing drums, as most of you know, is Dirk Verbeuren. I don't think there's really anything else I can add to that. His name just sort of speaks for itself. Up until about 2 weeks ago, I was planning on doing the bass parts myself but then saw this amazing bass player on YouTube and said to myself, 'I need to have him on the record.' I got in touch and was thrilled to find out he was into it. I'm really looking forward to hearing what he's going to be bringing to these songs."
In addition, Loomis plans on collaborating with a handful of other vocalists and musicians including Christine Rhodes, who previously contributed to Nevermore's "Dreaming Neon Black" album.
Fans should keep their eyes peeled for previews of developing songs, studio updates and additional details. The album is set for release in Spring 2012.

Norway's Svölk has issued the following announcement about inking a record deal with Napalm Records:
"After hibernating the last months, the battle bear rockers of Svölk are back, and this time with heavier weapons on their side: Napalm. The band have just signed a deal with the Austrian record company Napalm Records, and are now in the same cave as Monster Magnet, Brant Bjork, Alestorm, Stuck Mojo and Trail Of Tears, to name a few.
"We are proud to sign the contract with Napalm Records, a respected label with people who knows and loves metal. We are looking forward to spread the gospel of the battle bear together, and it's no secret that Svölk loves the smell of napalm in the morning, says the band in a press release. (This one, actually.)
"The record deal means world wide distribution for Svölk. First their eponymous debutalbum will be re-released, followed by a new album which the band is working on right now.
"It is indeed exiting times for all lovers of True Norwegian Bear Metal!"
On September 26th (and a day later in the U.S.) Nightrage is going to release the band's fifth album "Insidious," and the group recently posted the title track online. Vocalist Antony Hämäläinen has now checked in with the first in a series of track-by-track descriptions. You can check out the first segment below.
"So Far Away" – "This would be part one of three instrumental tracks for the album. Short and to the point. Reminds me of a triumphant funeral dirge. Marios' trademark guitar melodies are all over the place on this one."
"Delirium Of The Fallen" – "This is a bit different for the band as an opening song. We have always in the past had the typical 'blast beat' type song open the album. We tried to go in a different direction here. This song kind of has it all. Crazy solos from Marios and Olof, an emotional vocal section by Apollo from Firewind, and a very catchy chorus."
"Insidious" – "This is for me the best song I've ever done. Not only is it heavy as hell, but Tomas Lindberg recorded and sang vocal melodies and lyrics I wrote. A true honor and a great friend to the band. The song as a whole never stops destroying everything in it's path."
"Wrapped In Deceiftful Dreams" – "Another catchy chorus type song. Gus G shreds along with Marios on this one. Tom from Everygrey laid down a clean section for this one. The original way was just a spoken word from me. Marios then had an amazing idea in the studio for Tom to take the lyrics and basically freestyle. It took the man five minutes to lay down these amazing vocals! The one thing I wanted as a singer to change on this record were the clean vocals. I had done my thing on Wearing A Martyr's Crown, and this time I felt the need of a new flavor."
"Hate Turns Black" - "This is one of the first songs we wrote for this record. To me this song takes you on a great ride. Very old school Gothenburg feel in the pre chorus and a traditional metal feel on the rest. This is Nightrage to the bone"
Part II of the track-by-track commentary is set to follow in the coming days with mastermind Marios Iliopoulos. Check back soon for details.
Solace of Requiem has checked in with the following update about canceling upcoming shows and announcing new tour dates with Vomitory:
"Change Of Plans! Many SOR fans have been waiting patiently for the SOR In EU Tour schedule (parts 1 & 2) to be released. Well, we've got some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that the 'Part 2' portion of the tour scheduled with Mor Dagor will have to be cancelled.
"It always sucks to have to cancel shows when so many people have worked hard to arrange them. But SOR had a late opportunity to get on a bigger billing and that opportunity was just too good to pass-up. Which brings us to the good news...
"Solace of Requiem will instead be touring Europe (from October 28th until approximately November 20th) with Vomitory and Prostitute Disfigurement. At this time the show schedule has not been released, nor has the artwork/promotion. But as soon as it is, we will have it posted here for all to see. The 'Part 1' portion of the tour scheduled with Disbelief and Xiom has NOT yet been canceled. If possible, SOR will play Part 1 of the original tour as well as the tour with Vomitory and Prostitute Disfigurement.
"Sorry to all of the promoters, clubs, bands and fans that might be disappointed in SOR's cancelling. Especially Michael Morgenstern with MorningStar Booking and Events, and everyone from Mor Dagor. 'I Guess We Owe You Some Beers?!' A very big Thank You to Michael, Mike and everyone else at BCP Agency for putting SOR on the Vomitory & P.D. tour. We will post more info about this tour in the coming weeks, as well as remove the artwork/promotion for 'SOR In EU Tour Part 2' and replace it with the new tour's artwork/promotion. Check back then.."

Times of Grace is a shock to the heavy metal system in more ways than one. Uplifting lyrics about hope and personal strength storm across a battering ram of melodic metal that was largely written and played by one man. Teaming with Killswitch Engage guitarists Adam Dutkiewicz and Joel Stroetzel, former Seemless and Killswitch vocalist Jesse Leach brought his band to Nashville for our own night of grace on August 9th. Before the show, which was dubbed the “Illuminatour,” with Underoath headlining, Jesse took time out of his concert preparation to chat with me. Photos from the show will be up in the photo gallery shortly, but here is the full text of the interview. More...

Norwegian black metal outfit 139 has announced that the band will be embarking on a headlining tour of Europe, which will kick off this October. The trek is in support of the group's latest studio album, "Demonair," which was released last year. Speaking on the tour, the band stated:
"The Bells are chiming! We proudly announce that the first 1349 tour on European soil in many years is to take place in October 2011. After several rounds in the US, and following our pinnacle album Demonoir, we are finally going to make a tour happen in Europe again. We remember with great fondness the European tour following Hellfire, and it’s going to be fabulous and exciting to be back touring our own continent again. Playing Demonoir songs live gives us a diabolic boost, and the hunger and ferocity of 1349 have grown immensely since the last round. The classics from earlier albums will of course not be let out from our live-sets… we set out to make every show on our European tour a sheer feast of black metal ecstasy."
