"Recordings and mixing for the new album 'Nemesis' done. Total of 11 songs and about an hour of black metal was recorded, we'll now take some time to mull over the song order and if all material actually ends up on the final album or not. Some teasers of the new album will up shortly."
Century Media Records has issued the following announcement about Grave starting a North American tour at the end of the month:
"As one of the very first Swedish death metal bands, the now classic Grave has inspired countless metal acts to deliver unrelenting death metal to the masses. While others have fallen victim to the latest music trends, they've persevered the metal ages by remaining true to their roots since their humble beginnings in 1988. They truly are the Motorhead of death metal-GRAVE has never broken-up, reunited, or deviated from their same, classic sound! To celebrate the longevity of their career and the 20th anniversary of their debut album, 'Into The Grave,' Grave will be touring North America this August and September."
In regards to the band's upcoming tour, vocalist/guitarist Ola Lindgren comments:
"We are really psyched to get over to the states and Canada again after 5 years of absence. It's great to be back on the Century Media train again and to celebrate the 20th anniversary of 'Into the Grave' with another visit to North America. During the summer festivals here in Europe, we set out to play the entire first album from start to finish in the order that the songs are on the album. It turned out to be extremely well received from our fans, so we decided to bring the concept on the road for this upcoming tour. Since we are headlining, there will be more material than just the 'Into' album of course. So be there or be square...C y'all!"

Doom metal pioneers Saint Vitus returned to the state capital of Texas. Earlier in the year, the cult icons played SXSW as part of the “Metal Alliance Tour” with Helmet, Crowbar and other masters of the down beat. Many of the group’s hardcore fans, however, were shunned by SXSW in lieu of badge and wristband holders. St. Vitus original and hippie prototype, guitarist Dave Chandler cursed SXSW in between a song, confessing his displeasure with SX’s unfair practice. August 20, 2011 went down as a night not for industry elitists, but for true fans of stoner/doom and rock-n-roll in general.
Sabbath still provides, at least, a base for all hard rock/heavy metal bands of today. Some bands owe their entire existence to Black Sabbath. In fact, so many of these bands exist, even 40 years after the birth of Sabbath, that we have categories for these bands. Still, these bands seem a small part of the metal contingency when compared to the masses of black and death metal bands. In a town known for death metal blast beats and machine-gun-delivered punk vocals, it was nice to finally slow down the tempo.
While figure heads of the doom and stoner/doom movement, Saint Vitus deservedly took the lead, Austin’s masters of slow banging rounded at a lineup that was true to fans of this style. Mala Suerte came up first. These guys have a huge sound that borrows heavily from Sabbath and Cathedral, although they create tones with harshness owing to sludge. Singer Gary Rosas possesses a Lee Dorian-type stage swagger, dancing around the stage like an enthralled Dionysus follower. The group played a five-song set that elicited a strong crowd response. We've been seeking bands and fans everywhere to get their memorable mosh pit stories, and this week's story about a sudden invasion of blue spandex superheroes comes courtesy of Florida's Catalepsy.
This “pit story” took place about a year ago when we were in Myrtle Beach, SC. We were playing this tiny dive bar right on the beach in some random basement. We were just finishing up line check and were about to start our set when we we came to the sudden realization that there was literally no one inside the venue.
Bummed out but still needing our pay, we decided to fight the good fight and play anyways. After about 20 seconds into our opening song, a couple of kids started to file in wearing these blue, Spiderman like body suits. By the end of the second song, the venue was completely packed full of matching blue spandex superheroes. What that all was about, well, the world may never know. Quite the experience...
Catalepsy recently release the new album "Bleed" through Eulogy Recordings. You can check out a music video for the album's title track here or listen to the song "Monolith" by heading over to this location. For additional details on Catalepsy, navigate to the band's Facebook profile.
Come back next Tuesday to see our latest Pit Story submitted by bands and fans from around the world.
3 has completed work on the band's new album, "The Ghost You Gave to Me." The album was recorded at Applehead Studios (Coheed and Cambria, Morningwood, Straylight Run) in Woodstock, NY. Metal Blade Records commented on the creation of the album:
"Following the release of 'Revisions' and after several tours with Porcupine Tree and an epic run on the first Progressive Nation Tour with Dream Theater, Opeth and Between the Buried and Me, 3 returned home brimming with inspiration. Joey Eppard, Billy Riker, Daniel Grimsland and The Gartdrumm immediately began creating demos of ideas that would evolve into 'The Ghost You Gave to Me.' It wasn't long before the songs took on a life of their own. The band found themselves growing out of the standard rock compositional format into something more cinematic in nature."
Joey Eppard adds: "The songs told us where to go and the instrumentation followed. We knew this record would be our most progressive but it would be on our terms, and in our own way. As always songwriting and melody are the driving forces behind the sounds capes we generate. I think the biggest challenge was to rise to the occasion lyrically with so many musical scene changes. What I found was that I had to let go and allow the words and melody to be as creative and original as the music, if not more so. In a progressive situation this can be time consuming and indeed the bulk of my efforts were focused on exceeding my own lyrical standards. For example, 'Only Child,' an eight minute epic that traverses a myriad of musical scenes has enough great lyrics for half a record."
"The Ghost You Gave to Me" is set for release on October 11th and the track listing is as follows:
1. Sirenum Scopuli
4. High Times
6. One With the Sun
7. The Ghost You Gave to Me
10. It's Alive

Drummer Richard Christy provided details on his website about the new Charred Walls of the Damned release "Cold Winds on Timless Days" which will be released on October 11th, 2011.
"Charred Walls of the Damned returns with the follow up to their critically acclaimed self-titled debut! Richard Christy, Tim 'Ripper' Owns, Jason Suecof and Steve DiGiorgio once again join forces to bring to life Christy's latest body of work, Cold Winds on Timeless Days. The writing process for the new album actually began while the band was mixing their 2010 debut. Richard Christy used his experience on the first album to write songs that catered not only to each member's playing style, but to Jason Suecof's production style. The result: demos that turned out nearly identical to what ended up on the album.
"With 12 songs clocking in at 58 minutes, fans are getting a lot more music this time around. Recording twelve songs in a short amount of time is no easy feat, but one that was accomplished because of the stellar talents in the band. Christy elaborates further; 'I wanted to get a natural sound out of this album, I wanted everyone to be well rehearsed, not that I wanted the album to be rushed, but I wanted the spontaneous live feel and not over think anything too much.' Richard Christy describes Cold Winds on Timeless Days as a 'perfect storm of producing' – Audiohammer's Jason Suecof produced and Mark Lewis mixed, while mastering was handled by Alan Douches at West Westside.
"Fans can hear the first single, 'Zerospan,' as well as place pre-orders now on Metalblade.com. The album can also be pre-ordered on iTunes. Additionally, Richard Christy will be on air with SiriusXM Liquid Metal's Jose Mangin today Tuesday August 23rd for an interview and to premiere the track on air. Fans can hear the interview and song today at approximately 9am, 3pm and 9pm eastern time! For more info on Liquid Metal, head to Sirius/XM."

Dutch band Alerion has issued the following announcement about parting ways with vocalist Maaike Siegerist:
"We have some unfortunate news. Recently, Maaike decided to leave Alerion, after three years with us. Gradually, she moved in other directions than Alerion, which ultimately led to her departure. We are sad to see her go and want to thank her for her contributions to the band. We wish her all the best in her musical ventures. Those of you who wish to check out her musical activities outside of metal (in pop and jazz) can visit the website of her acoustic duo Daisy Enjazzed here."
Maaike released the following message to explain her departure:
"I'd like to thank the guys of Alerion for the good times we had together; it was great to be the band's leading lady for three years. I loved being on stage with them, writing songs together with Bas - who's got a composer of classical magnitude in him - and especially joking over beers after band practice.
"However, lately, I felt out of place. Drawn to old-fashioned jazz, pop, and other musical genres, and frustrated with the challenging conditions metal singers face on stage at smaller venues, I grew less enthusiastic about playing with the band. So I made the difficult decision to quit Alerion.
"I wish Alerion all the best, and hope they'll find the new singer they deserve. When they hit the stage again, I'll be sure to be in the audience!"
