Norwegian act Ørkenkjøtt has posted a new song online for streaming, titled "Livets Frø." You can check out the new track by heading over to the Ørkenkjøtt Facebook profile.
The band also commented on its history and finishing the recording of a debut album:
"One year ago Ørkenkjøtt started the recording of Ønskediktet. Produced by Ihsahn and Heidi @ Mnemosyne Production, the debut album is now ready for release and the band is currently looking for a suitable home for their music.
"Ørkenkjøtt is five guys, played together for five years, done almost a hundred gigs around Norway and released two self-financed EP's. The band got their first national recognition in 2009 with the EP 'Skygger og Støv.' TV-interview and performance, played big festivals, including the Inferno Festival, and received fantastic reviews both in and outside of Norway.
"Ønskediktet really define the sound Ørkenkjøtt has developed, and also where the band is headed. It's a concept album, both musically, lyrically and thematic. Influenced by Arabian/Middle-Eastern/Oriental culture and feeling, combining this with the norwegian lyrics and the norwegian metal traditions. This album was the first extern project produced by Ihsahn & Heidi at Mnemosyne Production."
Scott "Wino" Weinrich seems to have an endless fountain of ideas spouting out of his brain. Just in the last year, he released “Adrift,” an acoustic follow up to the electrified “Punctuated Equilibrium,” as part of his solo-dubbed band. Earlier this year, he played guitar and sang on Premonition 13’s self-titled recording. He also put out a split record with Scott Kelly of Neurosis. Kelly and Wino also play together in Shrinebuilder with Dale Crover (The Melvins) and Al Cisneros (Sleep, Om). These projects are only a few of the many accredited to Wino throughout his 30-plus-year career.
In March, Wino once again manned the mic for doom metal icons and propagators of Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, as part of the “Metal Alliance” tour with Crowbar, Helmet, Weedeater and others. Saint Vitus came together for a mini-tour and has big plans for the future, including a new album. In the midst of pre-show chaos, Metal Underground got the scoop on these forthcoming endeavors from an ambivalent Wino. More...
It was announced earlier this month that Century Media Records and its associated labels InsideOutMusic, Superballmusic and People Like You have completely pulled out of the Spotify website. Since that announcement, a series of back and forth articles between Metalsucks.net and Century Media have gone online (you can check out the first one here).
Other musicians and record industry members have given their own thoughts on the situation, such as Borknagar's Jens F. Ryland. Ash Avildsen of Sumerian Records has now also thrown his hat into the ring to discuss the decision and Metalsuck's coverage of the event. An excerpt from what Ash had to say follows:
"A lot of people have been asking me about my thoughts on the recent MetalSucks vs Century Media drama in regards to Spotify, the modern day way to run a record label and the livelihood of artists.
"First off - I believe all music should be able to be heard for free. This is why every song on Sumerian can be streamed on our YouTube channel, for free. However I don't agree with the popular modern trend of just conditioning humans to always go for the most convenient, quick and lazy way possible to do anything and everything. This happens regardless of the consequences on our culture, the consequences on the quality of the activity, the experience or the product, or the consequences on community and the negative impacts made on the equanimity of society. London-based melodic death metallers Neverborne have set "Self Destruct Syndrome" as the title to their forthcoming debut full length album, tentatively due out December 2011.
The CD features guest appearances by Henrik Danhage (DEATHDESTRUCTION, ex-EVERGREY) and Antony Hämäläinen (NIGHTRAGE) and was recorded at Thin Ice Studios in Surrey England late 2010.
Commented the band: "We decided to re-enter Thin Ice Studios and to again enlist Karl Groom (HAMMERFALL, DRAGONFORCE) to produce the new album. We returned there earlier this year to finalise the mixes."

Hurricane Irene is roaring up the east coast of the U.S. and has caused organizers of the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival to reschedule a Sunday date in suburban Boston.
The show, slated for the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Mass., is right in the projected path of the massive storm, which is expected to slam into the Massachusetts coastline sometime Sunday afternoon - just as Avenged Sevenfold, Seether, Bullet for My Valentine, Black Tide and the rest of the bill would be on the venue's outdoor stages.
“Safety first…We don’t want any of our fans to get hurt,” said M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold. “We decided to move the show from Sunday to Tuesday so all of you crazy fucks can make it and stay safe.”
"We apologize for any inconvenience to the fans, but safety is our first concern. We want everyone to be able to enjoy a full afternoon and evening of rock at UPROAR,” said Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival co-producer John Oakes. “After the Category 3 storm blows through New England on Sunday, UPROAR promises to bring a Category 5 rock storm on Tuesday.”
The tour starts in Camden, N.J. Friday and hits Scranton, Penn. on Saturday before taking the storm hiatus until Tuesday's Boston show.
