Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 8

It's been a juicy week of controversial metal news, and your hosts on Metalunderground.com's Official Podcast couldn't wait to fry a couple of the biggest fish for your listening enjoyment.

Co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) gets right down to business with a detailed review of "Lost Forever // Lost Together," the anticipated sixth studio album from Brighton, England's "post-metalcore" heroes Architects.

Next, Kevin and co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) set their sights on the band that's delighted and enraged metal fans the world over - but without whom none of us seem able to live - Metallica. The band recently performed a lengthy new number dubbed "The Lords Of Summer," of which bootlegged footage soon surfaced. Rather than lobbing the lawsuits of yore, Metallica graciously responded by releasing a "Garage Demo" cut of the tune, which your hosts examine in as fair and balanced an approach as possible.

Finally, the bombshell of the week: Arch Enemy's two-punch announcement that longtime frontwoman Angela Gossow had stepped down from the microphone and that Alissa White-Gluz (formerly of The Agonist) had replaced her. Kevin and Mike hash out the potential implications of this change and what it means to them, all the while marveling at just how well this secret was kept under wraps until an official music video was ready for release.

Whether this development reinforces or diminishes Mike's recent OpEd on sexist cynicism in metal, "From Dicks To Chicks," we'll leave up to you. Regardless, take a listen here, relax, enjoy, and offer us your feedback.

Pulled from their impending Relapse debut, "A Presentation of Gruesome Poetics," the two minutes and thirteen seconds of "Siren" are a relentless introduction to The Drip's violent effectiveness, the intensity of the high-speed grindcore intro matched only by the monolithic breakdown groove which follows.

Subsequent shows will see The Drip ripping it up with labelmates Fuck The Facts and Ulcerate as well as Capitalist Casualties and more, with more widespread touring to follow.

"Everything about this song is deep, dark and unbridled, a maxim that has steered the Cradle through twenty-two years of uncharted waters to the band we are today. And the raucous noise we make!"

An undertaking spearheaded by vocalist Dani Filth, former guitarist Paul Ryan. and Cacophonous Records founder Frater Nihil (who first signed Cradle of Filth) in an effort to bring fans old and new a remastered version of the demo along with material that had been sitting in the vaults for twenty years, "Total Fucking Darkness" will be unleashed on gatefold double LP and digipak CD via Mordgrimm this Spring. Virgin Steele Re-Issuing Albums Via SPV

SPV / Steamhammer is proud to re-release Virgin Steele's "The Marriage Of Heaven & Hell I+II" and "Invictus."

These 2 CD digipak re-releases both come with special bonus material and a huge booklet with new liner notes and unseen photos by David DeFeis. They are due out on June 16th in Europe and June 24th in North America. David DeFeis comments on the re-releases:

"It is an honor, and it is my great pleasure to be able to re-release with SPV, The two 'Marriage Of Heaven and Hell' albums, and the 'Invictus' album this year. These albums loom large in our Catalogue, and so much of our blood, sweat & history can be found within the fabric of these Works.

"In addition to the original running order titles we will also present various bonus tracks...The Marriage Of Heaven and Hell discs contain two live tracks recorded in Germany during 'The Marriage' Tour, plus some new songs. Originally on the bonus disc for Invictus we had planned to issue this new 19 song 'Ghost Harvest' collection that I had spoken about in the latest interviews. That plan has changed.

"Ghost Harvest, (which has now grown into more than 1 CD at this time!!!)....will instead be included in the upcoming box-set...(Please See further down)...and the bonus disc inside Invictus, which bears the title: 'Fire Spirits' will contain over the top acoustic versions of various songs mainly taken from The Marriage Of Heaven & Hell and Invictus albums... (but a few others appear as well)....It will also contain a brand new track recorded this week.

"The performances on 'Fire Spirits' were captured live and are raw, heartfelt and genuine. We wanted to show those who missed out on the acoustic gigs we had done, some of what went on there, and to also express how powerful these stripped down versions can be. With the appearance of these re-issues and the inclusion of all the various bonus tracks contained within these collections, we give thanks and salute all of you who have taken this Barbaric-Romantic ride with us....we hope you will enjoy these Works that celebrate the interaction and chemistry of the group, and which are testament to the enduring strength of our friendship..." Melechesh Recruits New Drummer

Mesopotamian blackened thrash metal act Melechesh has announced the addition of drummer Sasha "Sin" Horn. Commented mainman Ashmedi:

"After a lengthy search Melechesh are proud to announce the inclusion of new drummer Sasha 'Sin' Horn. Sin as in the Mesopotamian moon god. He will be appearing on the upcoming album which we will follow up with more details. Meanwhile he flew in from the USA to our rehearsal room in Germany to work with the band on new material and meet the label guys and the chemistry was great. His drumming skills will sure bring in an extra kick to the new album."

Since there were rumors and uncertainties of the current second guitarist of Melechesh, the band clarified the situation in the following statement: "After one show it became obvious things wouldn't work out with Sirus, so we mutually agreed to go separate ways. For now the position is not vacant until a great talent crosses our ways. Ashmedi will track guitars and former guitarist and long time friend Moloch might be flying to the studio for recordings but not touring as well. We have two great touring guitarist who are friends of ours and will step in as live session musicians."

Melechesh is currently writing new material for an upcoming sixth album, following "The Epigenesis" (reviewed here).

Jumping into that ring is Thy Art Is Murder, which has a new t-shirt out now proudly proclaiming the demise of Mr. Phelps.

What do you think metalheads? Would you wear this, and is it metal or just in poor taste? More...

Set for release on June 2nd 2014, "Octopus4" follows the debut "Polymorphic Code," which generated an invite from ESPN (Disney) to write ten exclusive songs for the TV network. The new album will feature 12 tracks.

In association with Basick Records and underground gaming developers Rogue Star Games, the new album will be exclusively available in CD and digital formats as part of a funding development for a brand new shoot-em-up space fighter, intended for future release on PS4, Mac OSX, Linux and Windows PC platforms.

Starting today (March 20th 2014) fans can pledge towards the campaign and in return receive an extensive number of rewards, including copies of "Octopus4." Krampus Splits With Guitar Player

Italiain folk metal outfit Krampus has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band's guitarist:

"Hello guys! We have a sad news for you today. Our fellow guitar player Leonardo has stepped down from his position and decided to dedicate full time to the other side of his life. We are parting ways in the most friendly way and we wish him the best luck on his work!"

Leonardo comments: "I'm out of Krampus cause I got too much swag to play in a band anymore. It's now time for me to take a break and to steer clear of the stages for a while.

"I'd like to say a big 'thank you' to every friend and fan met on the road during the last three years: it has been truly amazing playing with and for you. Special thanks also go to M. Casale Bauer, Jackson Italia, Black Mirror Studios and of course to my bandmates: I wish you every success and happiness in the future! Hasta la vista." More...
