California outfit Phinehas has issued the following announcement about parting ways with guitarist Jason Combs:
"We come to you with heavy hearts to inform you that Jason will no longer be an active member of Phinehas.
"Out of respect for his privacy, we will keep the details internal; but know that this was one of the hardest decisions we've ever had to make in our lives. Jason is still our brother who we love very much. We are learning that love can be difficult and messy - sometimes families have to make incredibly hard decisions.
"Please pray for all of us. We are still one, family. Jason will always be family to us - because family isn't about what you do but who you are.
"Finally, you are family to us. Over the years you've shown us how to be a faithful ministry. We will always be indebted to your love. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you."
The Canadian metal veterans in Kittie have announced a crowd funding campaign for a career spanning documentary DVD featuring all past and present band members.

Kittie is also in talks with eOne Music about releasing a re-mixed, re-mastered box set of the band's back catalog.

Recorded live in the band's practice/performance space, The Living Room, in Stroudsburg by Dave Reiser of Rock Hard Studios, the offering features five organic movements of ethereal, desert-styled Spaghetti Westernish psychedelia that seethe under the bulk of their own twirling, glassy-eyed heaviness.

In a new video clip available online, Immolation's Ross Dolan speaks about his role in Gospel of the Witches, the new project fronted by vocalist and visual artist Karyn Crisis (Ephel Duath). Check it out below.
Gospel of the Witches features the pairing of Crisis' and Dolan's voices in what Crisis terms a "death choir."
She has stated, "As a testament to Ancient Ways and the union of opposites, I explore the feminine power in my voice on this album and couple it with Ross' intensely masculine vocal power to create a consistent theme of thickly layered vocal choruses."
Dolan describes the project as "dark, haunting, very creepy, very cool stuff... something big and epic and multi-layered."
Gospel of the Witches' lineup is completed by Ephel Duath mastermind Davide Tiso on guitar and bass, and Intronaut's Danny Walker on drums.
The recording of the 13-song debut album begins in June with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me) at The Basement Recording NC. Virginia's post-melodic hardcore band The North has now released debut EP "Tradewinds," which was created with producer Chris Baldwin and features guest vocals by Jerry Roush (Glass Clouds) on the single "Upon Waking Up."
The band also comments on the release: "We decided to record our debut EP with Chris Baldwin at The Process Studios in Richmond well before we knew a direction or a sound. All we knew was a simple statement to ourselves: let's put out something relatable and true to ourselves. Half way through the pre producing process we found ourselves as a family and then as a band.
"Tradewinds is a collective story of our lives transcribed into music. It encompasses the good and the bad of the human experience. It asks the questions we all ask ourselves 'Who am I, and where do I want to be?'"

"The Open Casket video really is a stripped down candid look at the recording process in the Psychotic Gardening dungeon.
"We thought it was in keeping in the spirit with the old school to start out and pay tribute with this song in this way.
"Of course, we did our dark, doom-laiden spin on it. And it's really cool these days, getting to collaborate with Chuck Wepfer mailing his stuff in from Chicago and Tim Roth from Regina."

Portland's Graves At Sea and Cape Fear's Sourvein have united in sound, mind, and spirit for the ultimate split of earth-smoldering amplifier worship. The following press release was issued about the split:
"Graves At Sea, whose contributions leave an eerie aura complete with tortured vocals, foreboding composition, and a general sense of dread, occupy Side A. Recorded by Billy Anderson, (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis) 'Betting On Black' and 'Confession' finds the all-consuming sludge for which the band is notorious, flooding in amongst the tortured howls and shrieks of vocalist Nathan Misterek.
"Sourvein, who've now existed for two decades of distortion, damage and total doom, solidify Side B. With three songs produced and recorded by Mike Dean Of Corrosion of Conformity, these odes of heavy combine toxic riffs, grooves and just the right amount of psychedelic appeal."
The split will be out on May 15th via Seventh Rule Recordings, and pre-orders are available right here. The track listing is as follows:
1. GRAVES AT SEA - Betting On Black
2. GRAVES AT SEA - Confession
3. SOURVEIN - Driffter
4. SOURVEIN - Equinox
5. SOURVEIN - Follow The Light More...
Central Pennsylvania band Crobot will release a self-titled EP on Wind-up Records this coming May 13th, 2014.

Machine and the band are finishing up a debut album which will also be released later this year. The following press release was issued about Crobot:
"The band embodies a mixture of groove-heavy riff-rock that will want to make you bang your head and shake your ass. Think of them as Wolfmother’s American cousins who smell like leather (they make leather-scented air fresheners!) and whose music scorches your ears like hot sauce to the taste (yes, they even have their own hot sauce!). You can't help but feel that you are taken into another dimension and back again with the songs of Crobot." More...

The best is yet to come!”

N.Y. hardcore punk act Abject! has officially announced its break up after a three-year run. The band will play its final show tomorrow night at Grand Victory in Brooklyn, N.Y.
"For me, Abject! was like a trip to Vegas with the boys where everything broke right," said vocalist Jamie "Hamma." "As far as I'm concerned, we won big and we were playing with house money - one of those unforgettable trips where everything worked out. Hell, we even got arrested and locked up together and turned it into a big plus!
"Like all vacations, the time came to go home. We were way ahead and I would've liked to see how much further we could've gone, but it was time to go home; jobs, wives, etc. were waiting. The flight home wasn't comfortable, but that can't take away from an unforgettable run full of great memories."
The band will appear on Eastvillageradio.com's "Black N Blue Takeover" show on Tuesday, April 1st at 8 PM EDT to discuss the break up and more. For more information, and to listen live, head over to this location.

The Skull - which features original members from Trouble - will unleash two new singles recorded with acclaimed producer/engineer Billy Anderson (Melvins, Neurosis) worldwide on Tuesday, April 8th via Tee Pee Records.
The "limited edition" white vinyl replica CD featuring “Sometime Yesterday Mourning” (side A) and “The Last Judgment” (side B) is now available for pre-order here. Downloads of the singles will be available at your favorite digital retailer on April 8th.
In other news, The Skull's worldwide debut of “Sometime Yesterday Mourning” and “The Last Judgment” will premiere exclusively on drummer and keyboardist Jeff “Oly” Olson’s podcst via InThePitRadio.com on Friday, April 4th from 7PM-9PM EST.
"I think 'Sometime Yesterday Mourning' is the perfect song for The Skull to lead with and there's a reason why it was the first song we completed as a band," commented Wagner. "It's about coming to a point in life when it's just time for a new beginning, a fresh start if you will, and finally coming to terms with the past.
"Being that it is the 30th anniversary of the release of the song 'The Last Judgment' — the first song we ever released — we thought it fit perfectly for the B-side and considering what 'Sometime Yesterday Mourning' is about, it made sense to me. You have to go through your past to get to your future."
Drummer and keyboardist Jeff “Oly” Olson comments on new guitarist Chuck Robinson’s addition to the band: “We are excited and honored that Chuck Robinson has accepted our invitation to join the band. He is the perfect fit for The Skull.
“I’ve always enjoyed rehearsing with Chuck as he is disciplined with his art. He’ll surely bring a bonus to the band with his experience as a former Trouble member and as a seasoned musician who utilizes both his talented song writing ability and his exceptional recording skills. We are looking forward to tour with our brother again.” More...
