"The album, titled simply 'Albinö Rhino,' takes a slightly more straightforward approach than its predecessor, the 2013 EP 'Return of the Goddess,' but maintains the idea of letting songs flow freely and allow them length without limiting them unnecessarily with traditional pop song structures.
"The aim was to deliver an album which could be presented live as it is layed down on tape, on single takes, without Pro-Tooling. The band has been inspired by the entire spectrum of doom metal from the 70's to this day, naming bands such as Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Sleep and Reverend Bizarre as their influences. More...
While UK doom outfit Conan doesn't spend its days cleaning blood-stained battle axes or lounging on jewel-crusted thrones, the band's collision with nylon chords and shimmering cymbals shows their favor with Crom, the god of R.E. Three years after the release of "Khaos Legions," Arch Enemy has started mixing a 9th studio album with Jens Bogren at Fascination Street in Sweden.
Michael Amott (guitar) comments: "We've been producing ourselves, as we did on 'Khaos Legions'. We have a clear vision of what we want Arch Enemy to sound like, and we can actually achieve it without the help of outside producers. We also have the advantage of having two talented sound engineers among our ranks in Daniel Erlandsson (drums) and Nick Cordle (guitar).
"We've been tracking at a few different studios here in Sweden, the drums at Fascination Street Studio and guitars and bass in another room. We just finished vocals in a third studio with engineer Staffan Karlsson ('Khaos Legions') and the mix and mastering will done by Jens Bogren at his Fascination Street mixing facility.
"Musically, this album is going a few places we haven't visited before. As our fans have come expect, our albums have all had their own vibe and 'War Eternal' will leave its own mark. Lyrically it's a much more personal record, and I feel the songs have more dynamics and depth than ever before. The songs are loaded with strong and vicious metal, drenched in tons of melody and emotion. All the trademarks of Arch Enemy are present, just more in your face and turned up to 11."
The new album will be titled "War Eternal," and Michael explains: "A lot of times life is a struggle, a war against what I like to call 'mental chains' in society that try to prevent you from living life the way you want, that try to stop you from making your dreams come true. I have always resented that and I always will. The title sums up our collective attitude a band as well; stages will be destroyed, eardrums will bleed. There will be no choice. This, ladies and gentlemen, is 'War Eternal'..."
Sweden's The Haunted has started recording an 8th studio album at Antfarm Studio in Denmark with the revamped band line-up featuring founding members Jonas Björler (Bass) and Jensen (Guitars), returning members Adrian Erlandsson (Drums) and Marco Aro (Vocals), and the newest member Ola Englund (Guitars).
This currently untitled full-length will be produced by Tue Madsen, who has already worked with the band on previous releases. Check out a video message from drummer Adrian Erlandsson and guitarist Ola Englund from the studio below. The band also comments:
"Here you go, folks; picture proof of the cursed, grueling, back-breaking yet eventually immensely rewarding process of recording an album. How about Tue's use of an empty pool for that special reverb effect!? You can't buy that shit as a plug-in (Hey...Wait a minute...Maybe you can?). Anyway, recording might be hard, strenuous work, but it's always relaxing to have producer wizard, and great friend, R-Tue-D-Tue on board. We love both him and his studio dog Maud.
"The songs all sound great, and it seems that we're looking at the embryo to a pretty fast album. We're hoping you won't mind the velocity when you pop the CD into the player with your dirty little mitts.
"And yup, we've released the bands that'll open for us on our Scandinavian dates. Be sure to get there on time to check them out!" More...
John Conta Jr., known as Phi from the Chicago doom trio I Klatus, was involved in an apparent murder-suicide last Wednesday morning. Authorities say Conta shot his parents John Sr. and Janice, his five year old nephew Matthew Meier who was celebrating his birthday, and then turned the gun on himself in the garage after setting the house on fire with gasoline.
"We did learn that he had spent some time in Russia as a potato farmer, and he came back after a year in Russia and the family felt that he had changed somewhat," said Oak Lawn Police Division Chief Michael Kaufmann. "His mental state was just different." Conta Jr. had allegedly not been taking his prescription medications.
Investigators discovered a gun safe in the home which contained several rifles they say Conta Sr. used for hunting. It was one of those guns that investigators said the son used to murder his family. Crews on Thursday demolished the unsafe rubble of what was left of the home. Read the full article over at the Chicago Tribune. More...
