Tuesday has rolled around again, which means it's time to hear another Pit Story, this time from Norwegian outfit Trollfest. The band shares this story of a figure-8 pit breaking out in Austria:
Once upon a time in Austria, on the road with Korpiklaani, the trolls were trying to breathe some life into a slightly scattered crowd. It was time for “Der Jegermeister,” which is ALWAYS accompanied by a circle pit, usually of violent proportions. But there was no room! The concert hall consisted of several huge concrete columns of death!
The creative side of Trollmannen was let loose, and he went on a passionate rant that seemed to take on a life of its own. “Can you do it around the columns? We’ll have one there, and one over there.” Said the energetic frontman, pointing. The crowd cheered. “Fuck it, can you do it in a figure of 8!?” Trollmannen was inventing on the spot. “Allright, let’s do a circle-of-8 pit! I have to work on the name, but this is going to be legendary!”
Some hard core metal heads were already trembling with anticipation, wanting the song to start ASAP! “This song is called Der Jegermeister!!” roared the bearded Norwegian, and Trollfest went head first into one of their classic neck breakers. And yes, Trollmannen’s faith in the Austrian fans paid of and a fantastic 8-pit ensued! Some blood was probably spilled and some teeth left home, but it was worth knowing that we invented a new game to play!More...

Southern California's terrorizing death metal cult Skinfather will release its debut LP this Spring via Streetcleaner Records. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Brandishing a name inspired from one of the genre's best bands in their prime, Dismember, the fairly new outfit, Skinfather, is unapologetically heavily inspired by the act and their fellow 1990's Stockholm counterparts, delivering an only slightly modernized version of what that scene's infinitely influential early supply of death metal provided.
"With a slick, antagonistic approach, Skinfather has decimated audiences around their locale over the past three years, having released several singles and EPs. Now in 2014, the band is taking it to the next level on both the live and release fronts, with new tour actions and the news of their debut LP now upon us.
"On April 22nd, Skinfather will release its debut album, None Will Mourn, on 12" LP via Todd Jones of Nails' DIY label, Streetcleaner Records, and on iTunes/Spotify. The album dispatches nine hard-edged hymns delivered with a cool, calculated, cavernous production, but not without an undercurrent of raging insanity buried under the onslaught of downtuned riff devastation. None Will Mourn was engineered by Taylor Young from Nails, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, and features equally bold visual aesthetics courtesy of Raul Gonzalez." More...
Metal Blade Records is excited to announce that Nonpoint will join its global roster of artists. Metal Blade will serve as the label home for the band worldwide.

Drummer Robb Rivera comments: "We are excited to not only get THE worldwide label of labels to release our album outside of the US, but to be part of a family now that has pretty much set the bar for metal releases for 30 plus years. Needless to say, extremely excited to be able to get our music to the fans outside of the US through the team that helped launch Metallica."

Neurot Recordings act Amenra has just released a stunningly personal thirteen-minute-long video for the epic track, “À Mon Âme.” Check it out below, courtesy of Nowness.com.
Amenra teamed up with fashion photographer Willy Vanderperre and director of photography for the video, taken from most recent LP, "Mass V." It may not be what you have come to expect from the cult crafters of discordance, but what is Amenra if not a master of defying expectation?
The band comments: "It is not at all like the sort of visuals we usually present; it is more a case study, or a visual interpretation of the band, a little piece of concept art, if you will. The idea they [Willy Vanderperre and director of photography Nicolas Karakatsanis] had was stripping us of everything we had – ‘what if we took it all away from them?’, ‘what if we took them from their comfort zone?’. No shadows or darkness to hide in, dark imagery, props or metaphors or symbols to use."
"Compare it to what we sometimes or mostly do with our music – stick to the mere necessary, take a minimalistic approach of a whole. What do we really need? To create a certain ‘feeling’ of emotion. For us, it was an extremely interesting cooperation. We normally keep our guard extremely high, never give something out of our hands, to keep it as close to our skin as humanly possible – that’s exactly what they did as well, literally…It was awkward, uneasy, and very confronting for us to see, yet one of the most interesting things we did lately, and an honor for us to be working with such talented and inspiring people. ‘Under a watchtower of punishing light.’”
Amenra will be hitting the road again next month. Dates are available after the jump. More...

Metal Injection correspondent Robert Pasbani sat down with Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt and guitarist Fredrik Åkesson to discuss the band's upcoming album, their views on religion, and what they consider "heavy" to mean nowadays.
Check it out below. The band's currently untitled new album is projected for release this coming June.
On the topic of what's "heavy" Mikael had to say this: "I don’t think it’s traditional heaviness, like when you talk about heavy and metal music. I kind of reevaluated what I think is heavy in the last couple of years and turning up the distortion and tuning down and triggering the drums doesn’t make it heavy to me anymore. It just sounds like nothing. So, we went the other way. We never tuned down. We kind of lost distortion and tried to opt for a more normal type of drum sound, like a real drum sound. I think it makes it sound heavier. Some of those parts that are slow and doomy just sound heavier. But it’s also emotionally, a heavy record."
On their views of religion: "I would say we’re atheists. Like many other metal bands, we were into satanism and stuff like that. Growing up in Stockholm, and forming a band in the late '80s, it comes with the territory. It was a gimmick in those days, just like it is today with the satanic bands. But we never had any religious beliefs ourselves. I think it’s still interesting with the occult. I always had a fascination for it. But it’s not something I want to push on to." More...

Svart Records, in conjunction with Solina Records and Twisted Films, today sets May 9th as the international release date for Nightsatan's "Nightsatan and the Loops of Doom" CD/DVD.
The movie draws inspiration from the very same source the Finnish band does: '80s post-apocalyptic science fiction. In the beginning, the synth warrior Wolf Rami envisioned the band's music as "the soundtrack to Miami Vice meets heavy metal." During their career, the band's sound has extended to both ends of that spectrum, and the synth-metal riffs of the early material has given way for a more progressive and atmospheric approach.
Directed by Chrzu, better known as the director of animated films such as Curse of the Remote Island (2008), "Nightsatan and the Loops of Doom" is a proud tribute to vintage Italian post-apocalyptic sci-if. It is a very unusual short epic, full of sex, violence, and general sense of wonder. The track listing is as follows:
1. Lost Karelia
2. (Obey) Thy Master
3. Of Wolf And Rami
4. Theme From Loops Of Doom
5. Secret Of The Mystery
6. Doom Doom Girl
7. Nightmare In The Night Doomsday Judgement

Germany's Helloween, founded in 1984, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
The band's latest studio album "Straight Out Of Hell," charted at a sensational #4, the band's highest German chart entry to date, holding this position for five weeks. Additionally Helloween made another five top ten entries in Europe and also cracked the U.S. Billboard Charts.
Now Helloween returns to its old label home Nuclear Blast, where the band previously released two albums - "The Dark Ride" (2000) and "Rabbit Don’t Come Easy" (2003) - both of which have just been re-issued with extended bonus material.
Nuclear Blast label owner Markus Staiger comments: “We are more than proud, that Helloween is part of the Nuclear Blast family again. All those years we had a friendship-like connection and ways crossed on a regular basis at concerts and festivals. Helloween to us is a matter of the heart, there’s not only the two records to mention, but an act that influenced me and many of our employees. Together there are big plans and we are looking forward to having another productive and successful cooperation.”
The band itself is equally celebratory. Vocalist Andi Deris states: “As a label, Nuclear Blast is 'Heavy Metal to the bone,' and we are really looking forward to working together with a lot of familiar faces.” More...

Swedish death metal legends At The Gates have announced that they will be embarking on a headlining tour of Europe this December, their first in nearly twenty years. They will be joined on the trek by Triptykon and Morbus Chron. Speaking about the tour, vocalist Tomas Lindberg stated:
"We are very excited for this tour. It will be our first proper tour of Europe since 1996. As we have been playing only festivals in Europe since the reunion in 2008, this will be the first chance for us to meet the fans of Europe in a more intimate environment. Playing live for our own crowd, our own people in smaller clubs is something that is essential to us as a band and we are looking forward to finally being able to deliver a full At The Gates show in this setting, without having to work around the schedules and conditions of bigger festivals. It will also be the first time ever that we will be able to present some new compositions in a live setting - as the new album will be released by then. It's hard and uncompromising and I think the new songs will work great live next to the old songs.
"As for going out together with Triptykon, we couldn't be more thrilled. I have always looked upon the work of Thomas Gabriel Fischer as a great source of inspiration. From naming my first band, Grotesque after a line in a Celtic Frost song back in 1988, to the mighty comeback with his new reincarnation with Triptykon. Seeing them live every day for three weeks will be mind-blowing. More...

There are 4 Angels, but still they are One. Fire, Wind, Earth and Water are their names. With the Elements they observe in unimaginable sadness and anger the primitive events that take place in the last 150 years as they have the ability to go back and forth in time. The band released the following statement (translated using Bing): "We are deeply sad and Almah's shaken with the news that our brother Paulo Schroeber music died. Paul, as well as an extremely gifted musician was a single person, a kindness and a good mood genuinely special. The strength and the naturalness with which he dealt with his painting was one of many admirable characteristics. The man was prematurely, and as if adivinhássemos, we dedicate the show yesterday, in Florianopolis, to him. Get the lesson and the work, which proudly we recorded together on two albums. So little for what could still be done, but more than enough to ever be forgotten by us, ex-bandmates or by fans. Paul, thanks for the friendship and the music we share. Keep fingers in shape, one day we will have a sound again. ;)" More...

Pilgrim is currently performing ceremonies across the U.S. supporting reunited stoner rock icons Spirit Caravan. The journey will raze nearly two dozen cities by its conclusion and has already seen the band captivating newfangled ears at three SXSW performances. Catch the show: More...
