North Streaming New Song

Following the recent announcement of "Metanoia," the forthcoming 12" EP from dusty post-sludge metal collective North, Cvlt Nation today hosts a stream of the track "Hiraeth." Give it a listen below.

Describes drummer Zachary Hansen of the forlorn number: "'Hiraeth' is the second song we wrote for this particular release. It came about last Spring. We began writing it as a five-piece, first played it live as a four-piece, and recorded it as a three-piece. This song is the last piece of the transition from The Great Silence era North. It's such a heavy, emotional song for us. It was dubbed 'Nunu' during the writing process, being the second new song we had written in the time frame.

"Song titles are the last step of the process for us. 'Hiraeth' is a Welsh word that has no direct translation in English. It has a general meaning of homesickness, or of a longing for a place that no longer really exists. How apt it feels for this band, a group that has had such highs and lows throughout its history. To look back in regret over wasted time and squandered youth. Melancholic, dark, adventuresome. We occasionally miss our past and the people in it, and yet always look forward to the future."

"Metanoia" will be released independently on March 11th, 2014, just one day before a nearly two-week bout of live takeovers throughout the Western portion of the US. See confirmed dates below. More...

Legionary Unveils EP Cover Artwork

Legionary has revealed the "Once And For All" cover art, which can be seen below, and the band also comments:

"Here is the artwork for the upcoming Legionary EP 'Once And For All!' I want to first thank Mark Cooper for creating this for me. I was on a limited budget because I'm funding the entire recording, but he was still able to turn this simple concept into something sick.

"The concept behind the artwork is this... Throughout my life I've always felt like it was me against the world, whether it was because of my political beliefs, or because of my thoughts regarding the current state of heavy metal.

"I always saw myself as that lone legionary against those who thought they were bigger/better than they really were (and I've met quite a few of those along the way!). I always wanted a 'legionary' to appear on one of our artworks in some way, and I thought it would work perfectly here.

"The 'evil king' figure doesn't represent anyone in particular. Just someone who has brainwashed a bunch of people (represented by the soldiers in the back) through lies and deception. Someone who's big on words, and thinks that they're unmatched at what they do, but ultimately is weak. Again, I've met quite a few of those.

"This recording is basically going to be my way of saying 'fuck you' to all of those people who have tried to bring me down over the past 10+ years. They know who they are, and they'll all be crushed 'Once And For All' THIS SPRING!" More...

The album features 10 tracks of blackened death metal around will be released on March 10th, 2014. WormHoleDeath comments:

Hell To Release Four LP Box Set

Northwestern stronghold of magick 'n' mysticism Pesanta Urfolk today announces May 15th as the international release date for the "Trilogy" box set from U.S. outfit Hell. The following press release was issued about the coming set:

"This four-LP picture-disc boxset will receive the characteristically grandiose treatment from Pesant Urfolk, the labor of love of noted photographer/documentarian/musician/Stella Natura festival organizer Adam Collins-Torruella.

"Committed to honest, intense art in all its forms - and, dutifully and reverentially, manifesting it physically in a manner most perfect and poignant - Pesanta Urfolk spans the wide spectrum of true 'outsider music,' from autumnal neofolk and haunted Americana to spectral black metal and elegiac doom-drone, and many points in between.

"Is hell a metaphorical place, or a literal one? Where is Hell? Hell currently resides in Salem, Oregon, USA. It is largely the work of one M.S.W. To date, the man has recorded three increasingly expansive full-length albums, always on cassette format, and always selling out almost immediately.

"Now, after the highly successful vinyl pressings of I, II, and III, all courtesy of Pesanta Urfolk, Hell prepares to make that metaphorical place a literal one (or is that vice versa?) with an exclusive, luxurious picture-disc boxset containing all three Hell treatises to date, appropriately titled Trilogy. Across four picture-disc vinyl LPs and seven sides of music, the entirety of Hell shall be laid before you: both light and shade, weight and weightlessness, space and smother, from elegiac drone to feral black metal, viscous sludge to autumnal Americana, there and back again, sonic wanderlust riding the deluge, Hell unshackles itself and places the dense 'n' demanding burden squarely upon the listener.

"So, back to the original question: is hell a metaphorical place, or a literal one? Open up Trilogy and find out for yourself." More...

The Drip Signs To Relapse Records

Relapse Records this week confirms the label signing of blistering grindcore quartet The Drip. Relapse comments:

"Based out of Washington State, The Drip unloads a belittling, ravenous style of high-potency grind, having taken cues from the forefathers of the genre like Napalm Death and Brutal Truth yet contemporizing their approach to put them on par with Nasum, Rotten Sound, Insect Warfare and the like.

"Several independent EPs found the band reaping accolades from US press outlets like Operation Grindcore, who stated, 'If you like your grindcore, metallic and overflowing with seething aggression, then The Drip should please you for quite some time,' and Headbang or GTFO, who called the band's style, 'Furious gut stabbing grind that pummels your anus until it collapses on the floor.'

"The Dirp now brings their ferocious, blasting arts to the Relapse roster with the release of their label debut, A Presentation of Gruesome Poetics. A relentless, skull-crushing, pissed off, high-energy, blast-riddled explosion of violence, the EP rips through six tracks in barely twelve minutes, the first release to be fully recorded at Audiosiege in Portland by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust), after which it was mastered by Brad Boatright (Tragedy, From Ashes Rise, Integrity)."

The Drip also adds: "We are proud to be a part of Relapse Records and their amazing roster of bands. It's quite an honor being label mates with some of our favorite artists, and even more exciting to be releasing our album, A Presentation Of Gruesome Poetics. It is our strongest material to date, and it's ready to be unleashed to the metal scene. We look forward to 2014 and what it brings." More...

Century Media Records has issued the following announcement about re-issuing "Wolverine Blues" from Entombed:

Every Time I Die Enters The Studio

New York hardcore group Every Time I Die is currently recording new material at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts with producer Kurt Ballou of Converge. Keith Buckley, lyricist and vocalist of Every Time I Die, states:

"Kurt Ballou had always intimidated the living shit out of me, so I was overjoyed when the decision was made to record our next record with him at GodCity and I mean that sincerely. I've been a fan of his work for over a decade. His records are terrifying and moving and they sound like they were written and recorded under great duress, which is exactly how this style of music should be made. This month we join the pantheon. I couldn't be more excited to see what he helps us learn about our own band that we didn't realize for the past 15 years."

Immediately following the recording process, Every Time I Die hits the road for the entirety of the Warped Tour 2014. Stay tuned for further album details. More...

"Chris Fielding has replaced Phil Coumbe on bass and backing vocals.

"There are two ways of doing this….. The first one is to react quickly and tell the world the minute the news occurs and then scramble around panicking….. Or the other way is to wait until everything has settled down and let people know when everything is sorted.

"We chose the latter.

"We finished recording Blood Eagle at the end of October 2013, looking forward to the year ahead and slowly making plans for our tours in March, April and May. However, on the 15th November Paul and I received a message from Phil stating that he wished to leave the band. Kaine Finishes Mastering Album

U.K. outfit Kaine has issued the following update about working on an upcoming new album:

"The mastering of the new album is now complete and the artwork is off with Cram Duplication ahead of the release for finalization. The mastering phase was completed by Z-Plane, which was recommended by the albums prouder Akis K.

"There is no official release date to be announced as of yet but there will be further information coming as soon as possible. The band is pleased with the outcome of the mixes and masters and looks forward to being able to finally release the album later this year."

Producer Akis K of Angry Bee Studios in London said: “Producing the new Kaine album was a great experience. Kaine write and play music that comes from within, without compromising and trying to conform to trends. Every single note and word in their songs is there for a good reason and the result is an album I am truly proud of.”

Rage Sadler added: “We worked extremely hard on this album starting with coming up with the material and the extensive rehearsals that followed during a time we were constantly on the road. To finally record it at the rate we did was exceptional, the whole thing was done in less than a week. Akis pushed us along the way and managed to get a great sound overall for the record and one that stands up alongside other releases of this day. We will hopefully be working with Akis again on future releases.”

Aborted Announces 7" Tour Release

Aborted will soon be releasing new album "The Necrotic Manifesto" (get full details at this location), and the band will also be dropping a special 7" release while on tour. Aborted's Sven de Caluwé comments:

"On support of our upcoming US tour, we are glad to announce to release a very exclusive and limited 7" 'Scriptures of the Dead' (only 500 copies), check it out! Side A of 'Scriptures Of The Dead' includes the title track of the new album while side B offers a ferocious cover version of Sepultura's classic tune 'Arise.' This track is not going to be offered on any other physical format. Artwork for 'Scriptures of the dead' has been done by our great friend Robert Róbert A Borbás from Grindesign.

"Since we have our new album coming out right after our North American tour with Kataklysm, we thought we would offer the fans an exclusive opportunity to get some new music before the release of the album, therefore Century Media and yours truly came up with a devious plot to release a very limited 7" that will be on sale on tour containing one new track 'Necrotic Manifesto' and an exclusive cover track from Sepultura's 'Arise.'

"Now if that's not the extra incentive you all need to come get your faces melt off on the east coast extirpation dates or the kill the elite tour, I don't know what is! (Besides maybe cheesecake). If you don't live anywhere near where we will be touring, worry not, there will be a very limited amount of this 7" available on our online store and CM distro. Check out the tour dates below and come say what's up to us at the merch stand or the bar! Grind!" More...
