Aura Posts "Behind My Eyes" Video

Italian prog band Aura has a new video clip online for the track "Behind My Eyes," taken off the band's "Noise" album, which released earlier this month and is available at Amazon here. Aura also comments:

"'Noise' represents a substantial turning of sound from the previous 'Deliverance' album, while retaining many of the elements that have always distinguished the band's sound.

"The turning point, if we want to talk about turning, was determined primarily by the artistic maturity of the band members, now being able to master their art and know how to move skillfully among its many facets.

"The album was recorded by the band at the Aura studios, while mix and mastering were handled by Cristian Paduano."

Forty Five Years Of Blackness

Forty five years ago this day (Friday and everything,) a debut album was released that, unbeknownst to practically everyone at the time, would change music forever. Though it would be dismissed quite harshly at the time by critics, Lester Bangs being perhaps the most famous journalist to slam the album, calling it amongst other things, "... just like Cream! But worse," it would go on to become one of the most acclaimed, and many agree first, heavy metal album in history. If you haven't figured it out by now, the record in question is the self-titled first effort from the one and only, Black Sabbath.

As most readers of our Sunday Old School column will remember, the feature dedicated the whole month of October to covering the history of Black Sabbath, so having another look back at the early days of Sabbath may seem like a re-run, but like episodes from the fourth season of The Simpsons, it's a re-run worth looking at. For a more in depth look Ozzy's first era with the band, you can read the first part of the aforementioned series, by clicking here More...

Sentinel Beast To Re-Explore The "Depths Of Death"

Originally released in 1986 via Metal Blade in USA and in The Netherlands via Roadrunner Records, Sentinel Beast's classic debut "Depths of Death" will emerge from the crypts of old school thrash.

On March 2nd, 2015 Irish label Marquee Records will unleash this thunderous beast of an album. The label also comments:

"Although they have been largely overlooked by most mainstream-leaning heavy metal historians, the cultists who truly live and breathe the old-school stuff wave the flag of Sentinel Beast.

"Led by female vocalist Debbie Gunn, Sentinel Beast formed in Sacramento, California, in 1984 with bassist Michael Spencer, drummer Scott Awes, and guitarists Greg Williams and Jerry Frazier fleshing out the lineup. The group wedded the melodic yet aggressive flair of NWOBHM bands such as Angel Witch and Cloven Hoof with the propulsive rhythmic attack favoured by the early thrash movement.

"After recording three demos in their first couple of years together, Sentinel Beast started gaining a buzz within the underground metal community, with Slayer’s Kerry King and Omen’s Kenny Powell becoming two of the group’s loudest cheerleaders. But Sentinel Beast’s biggest champion was Brian Slagel, the founder and CEO of Metal Blade Records, the Southern California-based label that helped launch the careers of heavy metal icons like Metallica, Voivod, Cannibal Corpse, and the aforementioned Slayer. The Bloodline Joining Doyle On Tour

The Bloodline's debut offering, "We Are One," is now officially set for a May 5th release. The group is also excited to announce it will be direct support to Doyle on his mini-tour from 3/13 – 3/21.

See below for all dates. You can stream the song "With Fire" below, and record label Another Century also comments on the band:

"The brotherhood of a band should extend beyond its members. On the full-length debut album 'We Are One,' The Bloodline builds a bond that's instantly relatable. Its cast in a grinding groove of metallic instrumentation and hard rock hooks, collectively conveying a sense of camaraderie. In fact, the Chicago quartet—Travis Neal [vocals], Shaun Glass [guitar], Chuck Wepfer [lead guitar], and Frankie Harchut—initially found that union within these songs. From the ashes of Dirge Within, The Bloodline rose."

Don Jamieson of "That Metal Show" also comments on the recently released track "'With Fire (Comes Absolution)' has enough fury to piss off your neighbors but is catchy enough that they'll be singing it when they think you're not listening!"

Damian Murdoch Trio Signs With Prosthetic

Prosthetic Records is excited to announce the signing of the Damian Murdoch Trio, which the label describes as an "instrumental experimental heavy blues rock outfit."

Referred to as Black Sabbath meets Hendrix meets Scott Henderson (Guitar Mania), the Berlin-based trio combines elements of hard grooving heavy blues and experimental fusion with headbang-inducing, riff-laden, heavy rock and roll.

Formed by Australian transplant Damian Murdoch, best known for his work with progressive metal group The Ocean, the trio’s current line-up also includes bassist Harry Stöckl and Micheal Posch on drums.

The Damian Murdoch Trio released debut album, “Electric Tentacles,” in 2013. The band’s sophomore effort is due out later this year; stay tuned for more details.

“We’re totally excited to be working with Prosthetic,” says Murdoch. ”We’re currently knee-deep in the writing process for our next record, which is shaping up to be quite heavy so far. The plan for this one was to write the dirtiest, filthiest record possible, so we’ll see where we end up.”

"Down-tuned, mean, and riding on a wave of undulating distortion, 'Blankapitation' weighs in heavy, but with eight songs delivering a full spectrum of sonic rock assault, 'Lowest Level Reincarnation' is raw, rich in diversity and in your face, carved out of depression and channeled in to a maelstrom monstrosity of guitar, bass and drums." Arceye Releases New Music Video

2013 saw U.K. death thrashers Arceye make waves with the release of second album "At First Light." Now the band is back to strike again with a brand new music video for "The Storm," available below.

"The Storm" was shot in a barley field in the band's home stamping ground on the Shropshire/Powys borders and directed by Tom Bohan and vocalist/bass player Al Llewellyn. Al comments:

"We chose a field in this location purely for the tree being the main focus of the shoot. It was filmed by Tom Bohan and Andrew McKee. 'The Storm' is our take on the end of the world/apocalypse theme based on the 21/12/12 (XXI XII MMXII) Mayan Calendar prediction (which never happened). It also talks about our fascination as a race in our own extinction and if it's coming the fact we can't do anything about it except 'take our chance to whisper in the calm before the storm.'" Heart In Hand Calls It Quits

Heart In Hand has issued the following announcement about calling it quits and cancelling upcoming tour dates:

"It is with great sadness that we have to write this post, but as of today, we as Heart In Hand will no longer be continuing to create and perform music. Trust is a hugely important part of any band and when it is tested it is difficult to come back from without causing further damage.

"As a result of this, we will be cancelling our upcoming European tour next month, a fact that we are monumentally sorry about. We cannot apologize enough to the fans, promoters and organizers and of course Hand Of Mercy, Liferuiner, and Create To Inspire for letting you down, but we wouldn't want to tour not to our full potential and see this off in an even more negative way.

"It is a difficult time to say the least for us to talk about the end of this adventure, we've watched this band grow for over 6 years and been to some amazing places, met incredible people and had some of our fondest memories playing with some amazing bands and countless festivals, all with the satisfaction that music we created and hard work got us there. We never cut corners or paid our way onto anything, which makes our achievements more precious to us personally. More...

Alice Cooper Plays Pay-Per-View Show in Austin

The king of shock rock Alice Cooper put on a special show at ACL Live at the Moody Theater. Not only was the evening devoted entirely to the Alice Cooper band, no openers, the group recorded the show for pay-per-view. It was a special night for me because this was my first Alice Cooper show. It would not be one of those shows that made me say I wish I saw him when he was younger. Vincent Damon Furnier may have just turned 67 but he performed with the gusto of a young man. His voice was in peak condition and held up the entire hour and a half. More...

Satyricon Signs With Napalm Records For DVD

Norweigan metal act Satyricon has signed a worldwide deal with Napalm Records for the release of the new DVD/live package "Live at the Opera." The package - which contains a full performance DVD and double CD - is set to be released in Europe on May 1st and on May 5th 2015 in North America. A clip for the track "Die By My Hand" can be found over at this location.

Mastermind Satyr about the story behind the release: "The whole thing started with us doing one song, 'To The Mountains' a year and a half before the actual show. We performed at a closed event in the main hall of the opera with the Royal Norwegian Opera Chorus. It was very inspirational. I then said to the conductor that I would love to do a whole show like this. He loved the idea, I was serious about it, and he was serious about it.

"We spent approximately one and a half year working with composer and arranger Kjetil Bjerkestrand on the choral arrangements. When I picked songs, I was not necessarily looking at only songs suitable for choral arrangements or typical in the Satyricon live set. For me, it had to be a combination. If you look at songs like 'Die By My Hand,' it`s pretty obvious we`ll want to use a choir for that because it has a choir on the record too. On the other hand, there were other things I had to consider. For example, 'K.I.N.G.' is probably the most famous Satyricon song ever - and not necessarily a song I can imagine with choral arrangements. But just because people hear it more or less the same way always, I thought it would be interesting to take that song and give it a totally different vibe for this one time. And it`s also interesting to see if we can work it around the structure of a song that is more or less straightforward.

"For something that we planned for so long, put so much work into, and something this unique - of course it would be nice to film it and record it. But I made it very clear to the people around Satyricon that I`m not going to turn this into a recording session where you can buy tickets. When you hear or or watch this recording you should feel like you're there.

"This is not 'Satyricon - Best Of from the Opera,' this is a show! The perfect parts need to go in there, but also the parts that are not so perfect. That's the nature of it, that's the real deal. It's not a live album. It's a celebration of what Satyricon stands for as a band." More...
