Interview

Morgoth Guitarist Discusses New Album "Ungod"

Morgoth’s first two recordings “Cursed” (1991) and “Odium” (1993) put Germany on the map for death metal. Both albums showed the band master mid-tempos in a similar fashion to early Death and Obituary. “Odium” was still mired in groove, but the band took a step into progressive territories, even playing some industrial parts. In 1996 the band released “Feel Sorry For the Fanatic, “ which showed them assume full-on industrial sounds. Just two years later, the group disbanded.

12 years later, Morgoth reformed and started playing shows. Last year the band released its “God Is Evil” EP. This was an appetizer for the band’s return to their death metal roots. Now, they are ready to release “Ungod”, their first full length in 19 years. Karsten "Jagger" Jäger of the band Disbelief assumes vocals over long-time growler Marc Grewe. I spoke to guitarist Sebastian Swart on the phone regarding this new material and the band's reformation. More...

Impellitteri Details New Album "Venom"

Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the release of the brand new Impellitteri studio album entitled "Venom" on April 17th in Europe and April 21st in North America. The album marks the first release since 2009's "Wicked Maiden."

Impellitteri delivers a record filled with addictive and memorable riffs, guitar solos featuring mainman Chris Impellitteri’s blistering shredding technique coupled with strong melody and taste. Rob Rock's vocals are mesmerizing, melodic, and will make the listener sing along with each song long after the record is over. Lastly, the band boggles the mind with brutal drumming featuring John Dette (ex=Testament/Slayer) filled with speed and groove and beastly bass playing (courtesy of James Pulli) that supports Impellitteri's sonic madness! The result is a record that is said to excite and musically satisfy every metal and rock fan, and every musician around the world. To add to their quest, the band also wanted to create music that would take the listener on a musical journey thru different time periods of metal and rock.

Chris Impellitteri is heralded as one of the world’s greatest guitar shredders. He has won Best Rock Guitarist Awards on several magazines during the years for his guitar soloing. He is the first guitarist to be branded as the fastest guitarist in the world by the international media. Recently and without any promotion, Impellitteri was officially voted 2nd fastest guitarist in the world by Guitar One Magazine. "Guitar World" magazine recently listed Chris Impellitteri within their top 50 fastest guitarists of all time! More...

Pregierz Releasing "Blood Sanctions"

Blood Harvest Records is proud to present the double 7" "Blood Sanctions" from Pregierz, due out March 30th. The label comments:

"Originally released last year as a demo cassette, 'Blood Sanctions' is the debut recording of this Polish duo, formed from a long-time friendship between two maniacs from Lower Silesia.

"The idea of creating a band was present in their minds for many years, and at last materialized in the summer of 2013. Firmly committed to the death metal and black metal scenes of the late '80s and early '90s, Pregierz thrust forth with a crusty 'n' cavernous attack that melds death metalled muscle to black metalled atmosphere - but always the most horrifying and repulsive of old-school sounds, far away from trends. Blood Sanctions is just the beginning, and payment must be shed!"

The track listing is as follows:

1. Intro - Dawn of Horror
2. Shallow Grave
3. Cierpietnica
4. Crawling Abomination
5. Purification in Fire More...

Ukraine's protagonists of old school doom Apostate will unleash the horror-inspire sophomore album "Time of Terror" on March 2nd, 2015 through Ferrum Records. The label comments:

"The sound on Apostate's 'Time Of Terror' is massive. Great walls of dark, opaque guitars crashing down, chugging along at a tempo that conveys an urgency and brooding sense of menace.

"There's something almost regal about Apostate; their sound maintains that sedate, classy Continental vibe but holds onto a tension and aggression, even in the slowest songs. Fans of Anathema, Hooded Menace and Eye of Solitude will be salivating at the prospect of this unholy feast of doomed death metal fury! An epic statement and a watershed in doom metal, location be damned."

"The band, founded in 2011, plays melodic stoner metal and released a first demo EP in 2012 receiving some great feedback in the Finnish metal media. Black .44 songs tell dark stories about your regular hometown murderers and those poor souls that just happen to be born crooked or just always seem to make the wrong choices in life.

"The band is influenced by such artists as Pantera, Black Sabbath, Down and Alice in Chains. Heavy riffs and catchy melodies spiced up with a twist of that southern groove are the trademarks of Black .44." More...

Nidingr's Teloch Composes Music For Play

Teloch from Nidingr has composed music for the play “Mother Courage” by Bertolt Brecht, which will be performed at Det Norske Teater (The Norwegian Theatre) in Oslo from February 13th until March 26th. Indie Recordings comments:

"Teloch has solid roots in the Norwegian black metal scene and is known from bands like Nidingr, Mayhem and God Seed, he is also the composer of the latest Mayhem album. Teloch on his behalf has teamed up with Stian 'Sir' Kårstad on guitar (God Seed, Djerv), Øyvind Myrvoll on drums (Nidingr) and Peter Michael Kolstad Vegem on bass and vocals (Blood Tsunami, Mongo Ninja).

"Bertolt Brecht wrote 'Mother Courage' during WW2 and his exile in Sweden. The play is set in the Thirty Years War (1618-48) where we find Mother Courage who is making a profit on the war, but ends up paying the cost of losing her children.

"This tells us both how meaningless war is, and of the cold mechanisms of capitalism. Mother Courage resembles the capitalistic machine. Brecht illustrates the cold, disengaged, emotionless, immoral aspects of the machine in the worst possible light. Mother Courage needs continuance of war to feed herself and finds herself unemployed without it, and yet it takes the very thing she strive to keep alive from her; her family. More...

Blackwülf Signs With Ripple Music

Ripple Music is thrilled to announce the signing of Oakland, California’s Blackwülf to the label's growing roster of artists in 2015. Ripple comments:

"The band – made up of vocalist Alex Cunningham, guitarist Pete Holmes, drummer Dave Pankenier and bassist Scott Peterson – prowl the musical feeding grounds of stoner rock, doom-cloaked soundscapes and vintage heavy metal. Dark sonic forests that provide coverage for their unholy mix of parapsychological anger and aggression, and bluesy head-banging riffs.

"With a résumé that includes member stints with bands like San Francisco’s Acid King, The Nads, Tucson’s Naked Prey and Mountain Pig, Blackwülf is already a seasoned predator. Formed in 2012, it wasn’t until January of last year that the band unleashed their debut album Mind Traveller on Wicker Man Recordings, pressed on clear red vinyl and featuring jacket illustrations from acclaimed San Franciscan artist Alan Forbes (Queens Of The Stone Age, The Misfits).

"The record, much like Blackwülf itself, was unabashed in its typical, 'What you see is what you get' aesthetic. Melding heavy stoner riffs to sincere, pure rock indulgence that has since paved the way for the self-released 7” split single ‘Acid Reign’ with Portland’s Black Snake last September.

"Offering up another dose of melody and raw power and a nod to the golden old schools of heavy 70s and 80s pre-thrash metal Blackwülf will release their new album this June via Ripple Music."

In the meantime, check out the track "Wings Of Steel," courtesy of a stream by Decibel Magazine. More...
