Hybrid Nightmares Releasing Four Albums This Year

Australian extreme metal quintet Hybrid Nightmares is releasing a 4 CD project titled "The Ages" over the course of 2015.

The release will consist of over 100 minutes of music with "The First Age" (CD 1) officially dropping on the 15th of February at an album launch event on Saturday the 7th of February at The Evelyn Hotel. The band comments:

“After creation, we have an era of peace. Death and disease are unknown – all that exists is perfect order and harmony across the cosmos. All things must end, however, and as the first man dies, the first vestiges of chaos herald a new age. As man becomes more and more frightened of losing what he has, war and conflict break out, bringing in an age where order and chaos are just barely balanced. When this balance breaks, chaos reigns supreme, with death and destruction as the only rulers of the stars. At the end of this age, we see a rapid decay….and a rebirth. The cycle repeats. And repeats again. But every age has its story, and every story has its teller.
Soon, these stories will be told.”

Pre-orders are available here and each CD in "The Ages" will be released both physically and digitally on the following dates:

The First Age – February 15th 2015
The Second Age – April 20th 2015
The Third Age – July 20th 2015
The Fourth Age - 20th October 2015 More...

Pit Stories: Hardcore Dancers V.S. Carnivora

There's a million tales from the metal mosh pit, and we're going to find them all! Each Tuesday we check in with metal musicians from across the globe to get their most memorable Pit Story.

Today guitarist Cody Michaud from Massachusetts outfit Carnivora shares this tale of hardcore dancers who just don't like to be touched:

The first story that comes to mind when I think of crazy shit going down at a show happened about 4 years back in Manchester, NH. It was at a place called Rocko’s, which was a notorious venue for hardcore / post-hardcore / breakdown-core / running-in-place-core / etc. at the time. My band was booked to play on this particular night, and seeing as it was one of our first shows we didn’t mind playing a hardcore bill as the lone metal band. The young, stubborn metal enthusiasts that we were didn’t comprehend the concept ninja dancing and two stepping in the pit. We were dead set on starting circle pits.

For those of you who have experienced modern hardcore dancers, you’ll know that they typically prefer to avoid all physical contact with each other. The technique, as I understand it, is to spin-kick and windmill-punch in a way that freaks out everybody nearby, then get pissed when anybody touches you. I don’t know, man. Anyway… we played our set to a room of uninterested hardcore fans. I can’t really blame them, we were asking for it. A bit after we played, one of these kids finally had enough of our ball-busting when he got bumped into by our bassist, Cam.

The dude immediately turned around and hit Cam in the face. At this point, things quickly escalated into a fight with every hardcore kid in the room against my band and crew. I like to imagine it looked like one of those cartoon brawls with the cloud of dust and limbs flying in every direction. Our merch guy broke up the mess before it got worse and we decided to pack up and leave. At the time, our intention was to be “defenders of the faith” by repping metal moshing practices. Like I said, we were young and aggressive metal kids. We didn’t know any better.

You can find more info on the band and upcoming live shows by heading over to the Carnivora Facebook profile here. Be sure to also let us know your favorite mosh pit story about hardcore dancing below!

Sacral Rage Reveals New Album Details

Sacral Rage's "Illusions in Infinite Void" will drop on March 10th, 2015 via Cruz Del Sur Music. The label comments:

"'Illusions in Infinite Void" is a monumental piece of metal from start to finish. Indeed it's an ever-changing metal vortex with countless rhythmic-changes and no weak moments, a tense state of aggression in which singer Dimitri’s excellent performance and the textured guitar lines stand out.

"The Greek band plays U.S. style metal with some European influences. Acts such as Jag Panzer, Annihilator, Mercyful Fate, Judas Priest, Watchtower, and Rush are major influences. Lyrics about horror, supernatural, dark fantasy, soul searching, forbidden religions, perfectly match the band's dark, aggressive, technical and paranoid music.

"On 'Illusions in Infinite Void,' the band proves to be more than just a mere replica of the most influential bands of the Golden Age of (especially) U.S. metal. Hand in hand with a granitic rhythmic session, their songs turn, change and evolve endlessly into a wide variety of riffs, screams and roars! Sacral Rage has undoubtedly written one of the most inspired releases of 2015."

Tau Cross Signs To Relapse

Relapse Records is extremely proud to announce the signing of international punk/metal super group Tau Cross.

Comprised of a pedigree of musicians including Amebix vocalist/bassist Rob "The Baron" Miller, Voivod drummer Michel "Away" Langevin, Misery guitarist Jon Misery, and War//Plague guitarist Andy Lefton, Tau Cross formed in 2013 and recorded a debut album over several months in 2014 throughout three different countries. The record is slated for a late Spring release via Relapse.

Rob Miller commented on the project saying: "The music that evolved over this time is difficult to categorize, as there is clearly a lot of Amebix in the songwriting as well as some elements of gothic, Joy Division, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Industrial and hard fucking old-school punk rock. This is an entirely original work that is the organic fusion of four unique people.

"We decided to let the songs form themselves around the original demos and allow people to bring themselves into the mix, to allow the bark to grow around the tree. We are all very proud of what we have achieved in this short time and looking forward to working together again as soon as time allows."

Miller also talked about the band playing live and signing to Relapse: "Tau Cross will be playing live over the coming year, we hope to Tour in the U.S and Europe, it is still early days but I feel this is going to be an intense live experience. We were introduced to Relapse through a mutual friend, Brad Boatright at Audioseige Mastering, and were delighted that they stepped up and took this under their wing straight away, we look forward to working with them in the future."

Death Karma Streaming Burial Ritual Concept Album

Today the Czech enigmas from Death Karma stream the entirety of their debut album, "The History of Death & Burial Rituals Part 1" - set for international release on February 13th via Iron Bonehead Productions for the vinyl LP version, with the CD to follow on Necroshine. Listen in below.

Vocalist/guitarist/bassist Infernal Vlad explains the concepts behind The History of Death & Burial Rituals Part 1:

"Death is as young as humanity itself. It accompanies mankind from the very beginning, and it is an integral part of life. As the cultural differences in society have been evolving throughout the centuries, different ways of burying the deceased, as well as their worship and access to the dead, were incurring. In particular, the emergence of different religions in the world had a crucial influence on funerary rituals, historical and current, as well as on the perception of death. Many cults of death were born...

"I have always been fascinated by this topic, and that was the reason behind the conception of this work. The LP The History of Death & Burial Rituals Part 1 is the first part of the musicalization of posthumous rituals and the perception of death in different cultures and countries around the world. This is my tribute to death and its great value and importance to man. In the first part of this musical book, we will deal with rituals in the following countries: More...

Full Devil Jacket has released the first single and title track off upcoming LP "Valley Of Bones," which can be heard below thanks to Loudwire.com.

"'Valley of Bones' is a hard hitting track," says vocalist Josh Brown. "It's about a break up between two people that have spent a lifetime together. Vocally I pull influence from Zombie, S.T.P., Pantera, and Ozzy. Our drummer Keith Foster nailed it on the first take. Lyrics were written on the spot in the studio. This track has a sense of violence and magic."

The band will release "Valley Of Bones" on March 31st, 2015 via eOne Music. When asked what went into the new effort, Brown offers, “When we write music, we only write it if it’s real. I only sing it if I believe in it. II only write it if I’ve experienced it. When I listen to some rock n’ roll music today, I hear the same important sounding words as the bands I grew up listening to, but I don’t hear any conviction. Everything I write about, I’ve lived.”

Tenacious D Wins "Metal" Grammy

Surprise, surprise, the Grammy Awards continue to have no clue about metal (remember when Halestorm somehow won a metal Grammy?) with pathetic nominations that ignore 99% of the quality material out there from dozens of stellar labels and independent bands.

The Grammys don't actually have a category just for heavy metal albums or songs, but instead include a token "metal performance" category. Nominees in the "best metal performance" category included:

"Neon Knights" by Anthrax (Ronnie James Dio cover)
"High Road" by Mastodon
"Heartbreaker" by Motörhead
"The Negative One" by Slipknot
"The Last In Line" by Tenacious D (Ronnie James Dio Cover)

...and somehow Tenacious D won a metal award by covering Dio. Yeah, wrap your head around that.

If you hate music and want to join the circle jerk of uninspiring musicians with too much fame and money, feel free to find the full list of winners at this location.

For the run down on the real best metal performances (and albums, DVDs, and newcomers), check out our year-end awards over here. More...

Heavydeath Streaming "Heavy As Death"

Heavydeath today premieres the new song "Heavy as Death" - available below courtesy of CVLT Nation. The track hails from "Eternal Sleepwalker," set for international release on March 6th via Svart Records. The band comments:

"We have, just like the previous demo recordings, tried to keep the material straight and 'primitive' in the same Heavydeath style. We enjoy creating small details like morbid dis-harmonies and melodies in the riffs, but we have also tried to make it sound a little different than previous recordings. It would be boring if the album sounds exactly like the demo recordings. One thing is, for sure, it sounds heavy as death."

"Blame It On The Devil" was tracked primarily in the band's new home studio and mixed in Los Angeles, ending up a visceral soundscape that is equal parts 80s metal, 90s industrial, and a truly modern sound.

"We've enjoyed the freedom of being independent but there comes a time when you realize working with an established label that gets it could be a game changer," states vocalist Dearborn. "Standby will instinctively know what to do with our music delivering it to an already rabid fan base worldwide and they will be strategic in helping us reach an entirely new audience. They have a true command of distribution, marketing, press and merchandising, and were looking forward to finally unleashing our overture to fury 'Blame It on the Devil' on Standby Records!"

Luciferian Rites Releasing "When The Light Dies"

Always on the hunt for the best in the black metal underground, Moribund Records is proud to present Luciferian Rites' debut for the label, "When the Light Dies," set for release on May 12th. Moribund comments:

"An otherwise-undiscovered gem in the darkest BM underground, Luciferian Rites hail from Mexico and have one previous full-length ('Evangelion of the Black Misanthropy') to their name. Now, with When the Light Dies, the quartet are prepared to take their freezing-cold attack to wider audiences.

"Despite their geography, Luciferian Rites here extract the most potent elements of classic Finnish and Polish black metal, distilling each chilling essence into a sorcerous spell that's as authentic as it comes. And yet the band back up their blasphemous ruminations with an ever-insistent pulse and alternately melancholic/majestic riffing that could've come straight from 1995. Bolstered by a production that balances rawness and well-roundedness, 'When the Light Dies' will surely make a rightful name for Luciferian Rites. Be prepared for 'When the Light Dies!'"

Gorguts Re-Issuing Two Albums

Century Media Records is proud to announce the re-issue of two groundbreaking technical death metal albums by long-running Canadian legend Gorguts on April 6th, 2015 in Europe and April 7th, 2015 in North America. Founding member Luc Lemay (vocals/guitar) comments:

"Hi everybody! It's with excitement that I write these lines to you today, because I'm proud to announce that our 1998 record 'Obscura' and 2001's 'From Wisdom To Hate' will finally be re-released! We did a lot of touring for our latest record, 'Colored Sands,' and everyday someone would ask me when 'Obscura' would be out again. Well, here we are!

"For this re-issue, I decided to include liner notes that tell the story behind each record. How we got together as musicians, what was the composition process that made this sound possible and that made us grow as artists.

"You'll also notice that both re-releases bear the new logo. Well, I decided to change the logo because, with a step back, I realized that I never really like the original one on 'Obscura' and I wanted to give the record a fresh look. I kept the same logo for 'From Wisdom To Hate,' because it was created for this record.

"Thanks again to all our fans for their unconditional support through all those years... Krank the volume to 11.........INTRA LIMPIDUS OBSCURA!!!!!!!!!!!!!" More...

Forgotten Tomb Unveils New Album

"Hurt Yourself and The Ones You Love" is the title of the new album by Italy's notorious purveyors of black/doom metal, Forgotten Tomb. The band's 8th studio opus is scheduled for release via Agonia Records on April 17th in Europe and April 21st in North America.

The new album is a "mix of melancholy, groove and pure malignancy" as put by the band's leader, Ferdinando "Herr Morbid" Marchisio. "We kept the sound very organic and natural, kinda old-fashioned but still very fresh. The new songs are heavy as fuck and they feature our classic trademark plus some new elements. I can't wait for people to listen to it, 'cause it's a really special album for us and probably the most extreme we did in quite a while, both musically and conceptually."

Marchisio also referred to working with producer Terje Refsnes (Carpathian Forest, Novembre, Gehenna, Destroyer 666) for the first time: "We worked really hard, like never before. Terje Refsnes is a really experienced producer and he managed to get the best out of us. We are extremely proud of how this new album came out." More...

Motor Sister Posts "Fork In The Road" Video

Motor Sister consists of a group of musicians whose collective musical pedigrees speak for themselves. Mother Superior founder, guitarist, and vocalist Jim Wilson fronts the band, with Anthrax's Scott Ian on guitar, Pearl Aday on backing vocals, Joey Vera on bass, and John Tempesta on drums.

Today the band presents the first video from "Ride," showing the band recording the song "Fork in the Road." Check it out below, thanks to ArtistDirect.com.

The group was originally assembled to jam for Scott Ian's fiftieth birthday party. Thanks to Scott's wife Pearl Aday, who has been working on her solo career with Mother Superior front man Jim Wilson for years, all it took was a quick phone call and the stage was literally set for Scott's dream gig. "I wanted to cherry-pick a set list of my favorite Mother Superior songs and get these guys together and have the concert at my house," Ian says of the event that eventually led to an album.

"[Mother Superior] front man Jim [Wilson] was totally into the idea. Pearl was a huge Mother Superior fan from way back and was in. I asked my good friends Joey Vera (Fates Warning/Armored Saint) and John Tempesta (White Zombie, The Cult) to be a part of it because I knew they were both big fans as well and with no hesitation they said, 'We're in.'" It's finally happening - after nearly two decades, Faith No More will release new full-length album "Sol Invictus" on May 19th, 2015.

This new album was tied with Slayer for "most anticipated of 2015" in our annual year-end awards. "Sol Invictus" was produced by Gould and recorded in the band’s Oakland, Calif. studio.

"What I can say is that I think through our experience as musicians over the years, I think what we're doing reflects where we've gone since we made our last record as Faith No More. I think this kicks things up a notch,” explained Bill Gould in a recent Rolling Stone interview. “And I think there's parts that are very powerful and there's parts that have a lot of "space." Everything we do, with our chemistry, the way we play; it's always going to sound like us. It's just what we do, that makes us feel good. “

Faith No More will also kick off a round of touring starting with Japan and Australia in February and then kicking off in North America in April (full dates available below).

Preceding the North American tour will be the release of a second single from the forthcoming album, titled “Superhero,” which will be available as a limited edition 7-inch single on March 17th followed by a digital release on March 31st. More...

Warhead Releases New Single "Widowmaker"

Arizona thrashers Warhead have released a new single called "Widowmaker." The track is "thrash metal to the bone" and is available now for streaming and as a free download at Sterokiller at this location (also in the player below). The band has also uploaded "Widowmaker" to its YouTube channel for your listening pleasure. Eardrums beware.

Beginning as a fledgling Thrash Metal outfit from Chandler, Arizona, Warhead has evolved into one of the most dynamic, versatile, and explosive bands in the Valley's metal scene. The band's vocalist and guitar player Nolan Castles is joined by Sam Bollard on Bass, Cody Bailey on Lead Guitar, and Dane White on drums.

Warhead's music is the volatile result of the classic metal sound colliding with each members' unique influences, producing some of the hardest hitting anthems that the scene has ever heard. The band's music is matched by their genuine look, like a battalion of metal warriors. Fresh off the release of their self-released debut album "Death Row," Warhead hit the road for their first tour of the West Coast in May 2013. Crowds were captivated by the band's chaotic live show, and eagerly await their return. Currently, the band is in writing mode for an EP, and planning another tour for mid-September.

This is no retro act. Warhead is not hungry for success. The band represents four musicians starving for success, demanding attention, and pushing everyone else out of the way. At the end of the day, Warhead lives for music, and everything else is purely secondary.

"Widowmaker" follows in the footsteps of the band's 2013 debut, which is also available for streaming at this location. Check out "Widowmaker" here: More...
