Pit Stories: Scalped At CBGB
Tuesday's here so its time for some more pit mayhem! This week sees a story taking place at the CBGB music club - which managed to make it on the U.S. register of national historic places.
Agnostic Front's Vinnie Stigma shared this story of tearing his head open and revealing his skull to the audience:
At CBGB's 1982 Agnostic Front Death Before Dishonor, I was moshing around and going off to Death Before Dishonor when I ran across the stage and leaped off Big Rob's shoulders. I cracked my head open, hitting it on the monitor speaker that was above the stage.
When I fell to the floor, got up and realized that I got scalped. The skin was hanging off and my skull was exposed. People were throwing up and running away from me. I remember Doug Holland from Kraut puking and I'm saying to my self, I can hardly feel it. I went to the hospital and they played with out me.
Agnostic Front's new album "The American Dream Died" is set for release on April 3rd (EU), April 6th (UK/FR), and April 7th (USA) via Nuclear Blast Records. Check out a video clip for a track off the album, titled "Police Violence," below. More...

Comments Gust about the song and corresponding video: "'Reality Chokes' is a song about people blaming their miserable lives on those less fortunate. Instead of trying to see the bigger picture, and learning more about it, whatever it may be. If people would put as much energy into compassion and care for others as they do into prejudice and hate, maybe the gap between some of us wouldn't be as big." More...

Obsolete Announces "Riven" EP
Up and coming progressive metal band Obsolete is happy to announce the release of new EP "Riven" on April 21st, 2015. The following press release was issued about the group:
"Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, dark progressive metal band Obsolete began as a solo project for singer and multi-instrumentalist Dan Rivera. He started making music as a youth when he first learned to play the bass guitar. Picking up drums and then guitar over the years, he has since played in several local metal bands.
"In 2009, Dan picked up his acoustic guitar and began to write simpler, more personal songs. These songs grew, electric guitars and other layers were added, and his solo project was born, which would eventually become Obsolete. With the help of his brother Matt Rivera and dear friend Lloyd Martin (of Mairin), Dan recorded Ockham's Razor in February 2012 with engineers Richard Schneider and Joey Hendrickson.
"Jason Hufford (an old friend and drummer for The Conquering) and Steven George then joined in on drums and bass/backing vocals respectively, thus completing the live lineup. Daniel Stucky was then added for live percussion, bringing great energy and depth to Obsolete's live sound. The four-song EP 'Riven' is coming in Spring 2015, and the band is looking to bring its music to other cities and into many new ears." More...

The Tangent Releasing Eighth Album
InsideOutMusic has announced that psychedelic rock outfit The Tangent will release eighth studio album "A Spark In The Aether - The Music That Died Alone Volume Two" on April 20th, 2015 in Europe and April 21st, 2015 in the US.
A promo lyric video for the title track can be seen below. The band, led by multi-instrumentalist Andy Tillison, is made up of Jonas Reingold (Bass), Theo Travis (Sax & Flute), Luke Machin (Guitar) & Morgan Ågren (Drums). Andy also had this to say about the track:
"'A Spark In The Aether' is the title track of the new album by The Tangent. In many ways it's a bit of a rallying cry to people to keep open minds about newer music in a world where remasters and re-issues are more eagerly anticipated than new material.
"But it's a hugely optimistic piece that's primarily about keeping a young spirit as you go through life. The song was premiered on the 2014 tour and was filmed by several audience members who uploaded their clips of it to Youtube without knowing that we would use their clips to make our video.
"Of course it's an alternative version of the studio recording you're hearing as the soundtrack. We wanted to make a video that showed the real energy of the band on stage, something that has always been important to the group who have never set much store by big light shows or video projections. 'We do it with our bodies' is the philosophy. And what the fans do with our music, we use and give back to them." More...

Outre Reveals New Album Release
"Ghost Chants" is a twisted beast of an album: the first full-length from Poland's Outre is a thirty five minute mindtrip of the highest order and will drop on April 14th via Godz ov War / Third Eye Temple / Essential Purification. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"The seven tracks each possess individual character, and yet amount to more than the sum of their parts: 'Vengeance' is a blistering romp enhanced by a similar triumphant stride to that of their compatriots in Behemoth, while 'Shadow' touches on the crazed mania of Deathspell Omega, while 'Equilibrium' stirs in a writhing primordial ooze of riffs from Damian Igielski. The work of drummer Maciej Pelczar is simply stellar, whether in relentless double-bass or rumbling grooves of Lament.
"Fans may have been saddened by the loss of vocalist Andrzej Nowak, but Stawrogin, who was asked to lay down the vocal parts on Ghost Chants, delivers an incredibly varied performance. From the chanting that marks the 'Departure' to his strangled rasps and icy sneers, or a roar not unlike that of Anaal Nathrakhs Dave Hunt when he intones Our heavenly father, who failed me!, he establishes himself as one of its kind.
"The production on Ghost Chants is a perfect balance of crisp and sinister, a masterful turn from M. of the well-acclaimed Mgla. Set for release via Godz Ov War/Third Eye Temple/Essential Purification Records, this is an essential release for any fan of boundary-stretching black metal, Polish or otherwise."

"A Time Never Come" originally jump started Secret Sphere's career and is now considered one of European power metal’s finest moments: a cross between Queensryche, Helloween and Fates Warning, with plenty of captivating melodies and great orchestral arrangements.
Secret Sphere’s mastermind and guitarist Aldo Lonobile commented: "Due to an overwhelming demand, we had initially planned to re-release ‘A Time Never Come’ exclusively for the Japanese market, but later on we thought that would have been cool to make it available in all the other territories.
"This is album has been a milestone for our career and this year marks the 15th anniversary of us entering the studio to record it. We didn’t want it to be a nostalgic move but give the album a new life, with new arrangements and new graphics.
Mission accomplished if you ask me!"
