SXSW 2015 Day One: St. Patrick’s Day
Dirty Dog Bar hosted the night’s show. The bar will host metal showcases through most of the duration of South By Southwest. The Dirty Dog is located on Sixth Street, a place of reputed drunken revelry due to so many bars lining its streets. Alcohol consumption was in full force tonight being Saint Patrick’s day. Hordes of green clad patrons wearing beads walked from bar to bar, sometimes with the assistance of others, seeking hops and other beverages. The drunkenness wasn’t too obnoxious, but when you introduce this much alcohol fights are bound to occur. One happened right on the sidewalk next to the venue. The initial crowd inside the bar was somewhat docile.
Before focusing on the bands at the Dirty Dog, I want to revisit some of my activities from days prior. SXSW is not just devoted to music. There is a film, education and interactive portion. On Sunday, two days after the start of film portion, I got my picture taken on the throne from Game of Thrones. It took us about an hour to get through the line to have a few seconds to take a picture. I thought the throne looked more realistic on TV only because we’re just seeing the top portion on screen. Once it was done I received a “mix tape” that was nothing more than cheap ear buds. We left the “SXSWestoros” exhibit on 5th Street and made our way to Congress to visit Robert Rodriguez’s museum. He had artwork by fantasy painter Frank Frazetta on display. The detail was much sharper in his paintings than his posters and book cover art. It was interesting to see the paintings that inspired the look of Conan The Barbarian. More...

Gehtika Recording New Album
Gehtika is sitting on a time bomb: after spending the past eight months writing a follow-up to 2013’s "Impossible Question," the band is now holed up at Loud Noises Productions in JJM Studios, Walsall recording a brand new album.
This new record follows a concept the band has initially explored on recent single "Stack of Pyres" (streaming below). The extreme metal outfit from England’s Midlands has also launched a Kickstarter campaign to help bring this latest artistic madness to fruition. Vocalist Anthony Knight comments:
"We have worked tirelessly over the past 7-8 months writing, rehearsing and perfecting this absolute behemoth of an album; making sure every aspect of every song is as epic as can be.
"We wanted to create something unique, something with tons of big riffs, sweeping solos, fierce vocals and enough blast beats to make your ears bleed! And so, from the deepest darkest reaches of our twisted little minds, our heaviest, most accomplished, release to date; A Monster in Mourning was born! A collection of dark, brooding and brutal compositions, which travel through a larger-than-life fantasy saga of betrayal, vengeance, redemption and countless revelations…
“We're extremely proud of what we have created; this album is an absolute BEAST, and we can't wait to share it with all of you!” More...

Kings Destroy Streaming "W2"
Today the Brooklyn stoner rock/doom collective Kings Destroy is pleased to unveil, "W2," the first single from the group's forthcoming new, self-titled full-length.
Elaborates guitarist Chris Skowronski: "'W2' is a song about how the institutions and interests that control our country -- the government, corporations, the media -- have used fear, misdirection, and outright lies to keep us in a perpetual state of fear. In turn, this fear allows them to exploit us and keep us from doing anything to change the status quo. In the song, a man approaches an oracle and asks to be told about a time when man was more honest, noble, and stood for something real. The oracle doesn't answer the searcher's question, but rather 'turns his gaze and stares into the void,' suggesting that there is no hope to change the current trajectory.
"The tone then shifts and features a paraphrase of a quote from the Irish labor activist James Larkin: 'The great appear great, on our knees. Get up and stand up. Let us rise.' [Vocalist] Steve [Murphy] actually added this line, and it brings a bit of hope to the proceedings. Larkin spoke frequently about the oppressed needing to stand up for themselves against their oppressors. However, the line that follows proclaims, 'modern man victorious/suffocation glorious,' which is about as unhopeful as it gets. I guess I was feeling pretty pessimistic that day. I think it's cool that the song includes both of those sentiments, as even on our darkest days, we need to feel that we can do something to change what we don't like about our country or our world.
"The title is short for Whittler II. 'The Whittler' is a song from our first album that touches on some similar themes, and the character of the Whittler is the oracle in this song."
Listen in to "W2" below, courtesy of Noisey.Vice.com. "Kings Destroy" will be released on May 5th via War Crime Recordings. More...

So I have good news and I have bad news to share. I will start off by giving you the bad news first.
"As of today Karmageddon is no longer in Happy Days. Nothing bad happened nor was it a personal issue. It was a just a simple mutual agreement. Spice commented: “When I wrote these songs I was listen[ing to] a lot to music from the end of the seventies and the early eighties. The songs itself came out quite smooth, organic and melodic with a touch of dirt while we were recorded them. This time, Instead of hiring a studio and to record it fast as we did with the previous albums, we decided to build our own studio. We felt that we needed the time to get it right. To fill the songs with just the right amount of warmth, love and justice.
"The concept of the lyrics is about abuse, hope, hopelessness, weakness and strength. To try live life without safety nets and still be able to stay sane. I hope you will enjoy it.”
