Sweden's Katatonia has launched a live video of the track "Day" from upcoming concert film, "Sanctitude," to be released in North America on March 31st, 2015 via Kscope. Check it out below.
Katatonia's Anders Nystrom comments on the release: "Day... something you wake up to, or at least have to pull through, over and over. Most of them you forget about, but a couple you maybe look back upon and wish to relive again.
"Unfortunately in reality, I'm afraid that's not possible, at least not until Apple buys NASA and releases a new version of their Time Capsule backup machine and send people into the cloud and back into history to fetch an older version of their lives, but luckily for us, there's a current control of our music that doesn't need time travel.
"We have always felt that if there's a need, we're entitled to the freedom to give our old songs a makeover in the now rather than the never. So, in the making of 'Sanctitude' there was one song in particular that meant a great deal to us. In fact, it was our first song ever to feature entirely clean vocals accompanied by clean guitars and it was written and released right in the peak of our death metal years.
"The song stood out, but isolated itself into oblivion in the climate of heavier music. Therefore we wanted this song to get a second chance, to be re-discovered. Even 20 years later when performing it live for the first time, it appears the parks are still grey and look the same..." More...
Scythian's second full-length album, "Hubris in Excelsis," is complete and being prepared for release via Hells Headbangers.
"This is the album that almost killed us," says founding guitarist A. Von Moller. "Against the tides of trend and adversity, we created an work that would represent our own battles and our music as we wanted to hear it. We're proud to return with nine punishing anthems and tales of human folly - Hubris in Excelsis."
Recorded and engineered by Greg Chandler (Esoteric / Priory Studios) and mastered by Leon Macey (Mithras / Dreaming Studios), "Hubris in Excelsis" marks the transformation of a little-known U.K. band into a serious contender.
Heavily inspired by apocalyptic science fiction, morbid poetry, and the unlikely mix of Sodom, Bathory, and Angelcorpse, Scythian has taken yet another stride into unknown territory.
"The name Scythian was never meant to chain us to a singular period or people in history," says frontman S. Vrath. "We regard it as an metaphor, a connotation to a fierce and untameable spirit. With Hubris in Excelsis, we dive ever deeper into the essence of this force – into the metaphysical and beyond. Scythian is not about standing still; it is about discovery - hubris - and the fatally impending nemesis."
Scythian signed a two-album deal with Hells Headbangers in late 2014. Stay tuned for a release date as well as the cover artwork and track listing shortly. More...

Hot on the heels of archival releases from bands such as Abhorrence, Xysma, and Mordicus, Svart Records is delving deeper into the Finnish death metal scene of yesteryear with the complete works of Festerday.
Entitled "...The Four Stages of Decomposition...," the double-CD / triple-LP package consists of all Festerday studio material, live and rehearsal rarities, plus new renditions of nine old songs that have re-recorded, renamed, and re-composed. Festerday's "...The Four Stages of Decomposition..." is set for international release on May 29th, and can be sampled below.
Festerday was formed in Pietarsaari (Jakestown), Finland, approximately 1989 when four 13- to 14-year-old guys (Timo Kontio, Kena Strömsholm, Miikka Timonen, and Jallu Honkaniemi) met at the local youth center and realized that they all shared the same interests within the underground scene. The members had already been involved in some band activities before they got together, but the musical outcome of those bands did not exactly turn out as planned. The underground scene offered something out of the ordinary to the youngsters. Tape-trading and fanzines drove them deeper, and after a couple of months, the four guys were jamming in the local youth center's facilities doing covers of punk, thrash, and death metal songs.
In 2014, the band started to rehearse 25-year-old songs. At this point, Antti Räisälä from Total Vomit Experience joined in on bass as a full member, and plans for an album started to take form. Later the same year, Finnish label Svart Records showed interest in the group, and this time, the ink did dry on paper. The set's track listing is:
1. I Breathe Death*
2. Necrolatry (Risen from the Grave)*
3. Mouth-To-Mouth Vomiting*
5. Wonderful Worms*
6. Rotting under Goregeous Autumn Colors*
8. Romantic Regurgitation of Excrements*
9. Maggot Infested Corpse*
10. A Writhing Mass of Flesh-Eating Maggots
11. Necropsy (Buried but Resurrected)
12. Dismembered and Devoured
13. Carunculae under Skin

Right before kicking off a South American Tour in Mexico City, NYHC band Sick Of It All premieres brand new video "Get Bronx."
The video was recorded in Europe during the EMP Persistence Tour earlier this year by Dirk Behlau. Check it out below, courtesy of Decibel Magazien. Drummer Armand Majidi commented about the song and video:
"'Get Bronx' is a hard-hitting groove with a message of defiance against the modern powers of oppression. This video serves to show people across the world that as gritty and unpretentious as hardcore music is, it still translates to the big stage and doesn't need a tiny, intimate atmosphere to work. When a big club pulsates like that, the spirit of hardcore is kept alive." More...

We are excited to bring back our band with new members Cyn Mercredi, Brad Fife and Helge Lipphardt. We have revitalized our sound, our message and we cannot wait to destroy the Rendezvous with our friends on March 21!” More...
Carnivore are one of those bands usually discovered retroactively, mostly by Type O Negative fans who are told by more seasoned headbangers, "You should check out Carnivore, the band Peter Steele had before Type O Negative." This advice is heeded more often than not, and just as often will be met with positive results. Carnivore only released two full length albums; a self-titled effort in 1986 and "Retaliation" only a year later. Both albums were praised by both metal fans and critics and one song in particular which stands out to many is "Carnivore," from the album, "Carnivore," by Carnivore.
The song is very much a thrash metal track, though featuring many more elements than the average output in the genre. There's something of an industrial feel to the song, particularly in the vocal area, though not played up enough to really be a mesh of the industrial and thrash fields, as well as featuring one of the catchiest chouruses of classic eighties thrash. What helped the track so much more was its lyrical content, arguably one of the best, and maybe even the first metal songs about cunnilingus, which made it something of an them for all those who like to partake in the act. Even peers such as Kerry King of Slayer think of the song very fondly, who mentioned it in the bonus features of the Get Thrashed documentary, stating after bellowing the chourus, "Gotta have it!" Iron Maiden's co-manager Rod Smallwood issued a statement on the current condition of vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who is currently battling cancer which was detected back before Christmas. Unconfirmed reports citing comments from drummer Nicko McBrain seem to indicate that Iron Maiden has completed work on a new studio album and has been in a holding pattern on ramping up the hype and excitement for it while Dickinson recovers.
Smallwood's statement reads: "Bruce has asked me to thank everyone for their tremendous support and kind wishes. He has been extremely touched and encouraged by the genuine and affectionate response from our global family of Maiden fans.
"Radiology is cumulative and continues to build in the body for around three weeks after treatment, so even though Bruce’s seven week course is completed, he’s had a long period of considerable pain and discomfort. He is happily now starting to recuperate and the pain will continue to abate and the swelling to reduce for the next couple of months at which time he will be able take an MRI scan. It is not until then that we will have full confirmation that the cancer has been completely destroyed. However prognosis continues to be extremely good and everyone is optimistic for a full recovery. Following the scan, we will officially update you on our website at the appropriate time, probably in late May.
"After that, it will take a few more months for Bruce to get back to full fitness. Naturally the rest of the band are totally supportive and Maiden’s plans will be determined by Bruce’s progress.
"Please continue your positive thoughts. They are very much appreciated."

Warbringer built a reputation for itself: the Southern California thrash metal band was part of every major tour around the globe for five years straight. In that time, the group somehow found time to record four albums of unrelenting aggression. And then it all came to a screeching halt.
"I really thought that the 'Empires Collapse' record cycle ended prematurely due to the departure of (guitarist) John Laux and (drummer) Carlos Cruz. I figured it would be the end of the band, and the end of my life's work, as I'd really put everything I had into this band" explains singer John Kevill.
"I remember on the last show we played on that US tour (guitarist) Adam Carroll came to me and told me how we had to keep the torch held high and to realize the full potential of the band no matter what. We carried on the following European tour with fill-in members, as we really hate to cancel a gig and let down our fans, but it really seemed like the end for us. Fortunately, though it took a long time, we have been able to find musicians in our area to help carry on the torch of the destructive, intense music this band stands for. So welcome Vicken Hovsepian on drums, Noah Young on guitar, and Alex Malmquist on bass. Our mission since we started rehearsing together was to be the tightest incarnation of the band yet, and to raise the bar and move forward, never back. So far progress has been great and I can't wait to get out there and unleash this new weapon upon the world."
After months of intense rehearsal the five-piece is ready to show the world the new Warbringer. The campaign starts with an Asian assault because there's nothing better than flying halfway across the world and debuting your new lineup in front of a huge crowd at the Hammersonic Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia alongside established heavyweights like Lamb of God, Mayhem, Vader, Unearth, and The Faceless among others. This show will be followed by additional headlining dates in the region, an area Warbringer has attacked feverishly before.
"We are extremely pumped to return to Asia. It will be our third time over there and we're ready to get back into action and bust some skulls! We've played Indonesia and Taiwan before but this run will include our first visit to China so we're excited for that" states Kevill. More...
Russian death metal act Slaughter to Prevail is preparing an all-out assault against the world in 2015! After unleashing a music video for the new track "Hell" weeks ago, the band is set to finally unleash an EP, appropriately entitled "Chapters of Misery."

Next to bands like Force of Darkness and Dekapited, Invincible Force [is] one of the strongest Black/Death/Thrash Metal bands from Chile and highly recommended for fans of Slaughter Messiah, Force of Darkness, Possessed, Nifelheim and Desaster."

Invictus Productions announced the impending release of the highly anticipated debut EP of Irish black/death metal act Malthusian entitled "Below the Hengiform." The EP is set for international release on April 6th and will be available on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.
Malthusian's debut demo - "MMXIII" - was one of the most acclaimed and coveted demos of recent times, selling out its initial pressing by Invicuts almost immediately. Its three songs display a uniquely hallucinogenic and poisonous brand of black/death/doom metal, instilling unrest and unease in the all-too-willing listener.
Now, with "Below the Hengiform," Malthusian "digs deeper into the horror of the grave and the doom of the earth, unfurling yet three more world-eating vortexes that exhibit an even-more-unique and increasingly idiosyncratic approach. Here, the quartet malform and then meld only the most challenging and unsettling elements of bestial black metal, morbid death metal, and langourous doom, swirling the alchemical mixture together as amorphous globules of subsonic sound pulse irregularly and bracingly before devouring the listener, all the while dotted with atonal 'n' angular stutters before the soul-damning plummet to the very abyss."
Taken together, once again, Malthusian shows the way forward for supposedly "extreme" metal, jarring uncomfortably with the stasis that the modern death metal scene appears to languish in due to its retro fixation. Below the Hengiform lies the beginning, and the end... Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
1. The Gasless Billows
2. Slouching Equinox
3. Forms Become Vapor More...

Everything is magnified; Pete Stahl's vocals have never sounded so good, the rhythm section comprised of Greg Rogers on drums and Scott Renner on bass are the driving force on each track, and Greg Anderson's riffs are heavier than ever before."
Appearing on the album intro to "Another River To Cross" is acoustic guitar courtesy of David Pajo (Slint, Aerial M, Papa M), the track also containing previously released recordings from "The River." Piano is played by Mathias Schneeberger and Petra Haden contributes violin and vocals. Another welcome addition to the album, across multiple tracks, are brilliant backing vocals by Dem Preacher's Daughters: Wendy Moten, Gale Mayes and Andrea Merrit.
"Black Age Blues" is familiar, but nothing here is a repetition of what we've heard before, as the band continues to refine the timeless, ultra-heavy rock that they are infamous for, surpassing even the highest of expectations.
The track listing and front cover, with photography and design from Samantha Muljat are shown below. Audio samples are expected soon.
The track listing is:
1. Another River To Cross
2. Elevated Man
3. Coffee & Whiskey
4. Black Age Blues
5. House Of The Moon
6. Jimi's Gone
8. Grandpa Jones
9. A Killing Blues More...
After successfully completing an extensive trek with Dark Tranquility in January, Finnish melodic death metallers Insomnium are excited to announce their return to North America this Summer/Fall for their first ever USA headlining tour! Featuring Omnium Gatherum as direct support, the run kicks off at the Heavy MTL Festival on August 9th.
Vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevänen commented: "We are very happy to return to North America so quickly! With each previous tour we have felt that we've clearly gone forward and gained new fans so now it's the right time to bring a full headliner show across the Atlantic Ocean. We are very much looking forward to playing in Heavy MTL festival and that will be an awesome kickstart for the tour. And naturally we are more than happy to be sharing the bus and stage with our fellow Finnish brothers in death metal, the almighty Omnium Gatherum! Killer shows expected every night so get your tickets way in advance. See you all soon!"
Guitarist Markus Vanhala - who will pull double duty this tour - added: "Here's the tour that every melodeathmaniac (except my back & neck) have been waiting for - the double trouble Insomnium Gatherum tour in North America! That's gonna a hell of a ride thru America and nice times with super dudes as both of my brotherhood camps will be staying in the same bus. The last year's Omnium Gatherum North American debut tour was a blast and also a great success, so I'm really happy to come back also with OG and have another round spin of 'Beyond the World tour' beyond Atlantic!"
