Otep has dropped off The Civil Unrest Tour due to issues with another band slated to be on the bill, with front woman Otep Shamaya alleging sexual assault on the part of that group's front man. The Otep Facebook page released this message to fans:
"Before the rumor mill begins: We dropped off the Civil Unrest tour because Terror Universal's molester singer violently grabbed my crotch on our last tour. He’s a drunken joke and a fucking scumbag. He’s lucky security handled it before I or my band could.
"We gave them a shot to play in front of our fans and we were repaid by this drunken jackass violating me during the meet and greet in front of our fans.
"We made it very clear that we will never play any show that has Terror Universal on it. We don’t tolerate any kind of passive sexual violence. We owe that to our fans and I never want to experience anything like that again especially from an opening act we were trying to help by giving them exposure to our TRIBE.
"We will be headlining in May-June and give the TRIBE a proper RIOT without any pants rapists on the bill. Onwards & upwards."
However it appears not everyone agrees with Otep's recounting of events, as The Civil Unrest Tour's Facebook page was just updated with this message in response: More...

Vocalist and guitarist Kareem Chehayeb comments on the latest offering from the band: "The band started off as a straight up melodic death metal band, 'Catacombs' took on a different shift. The thrash has virtually disappeared from our sound on this album and riffs have some added 'colour' now which was inspired by bands like Opeth, Gojira, Daylight Dies, and various jazz bands that really inspired me to start writing metal again. 'Catacombs' also introduces occasional clean vocals, as well as more doom metal on some tracks." More...

A little bit of rain didn’t stop SXSW attendees from once again packing the Dirty Dog Bar down on Sixth Street this Friday. While the Metal Sucks showcase was heavy on tech death bands, the Tone Deaf Touring showcase included down tempo acts The Skull and Weedeater. Before those acts took the stage, though, progressive instrumentalists Stinking Lizaveta opened the show. The Philadelphia, Ohio based band has fifteen years of touring American and European audiences. This longevity showed in the trio’s tightness. Their female drummer played hard sticking tightly to the bassist who played an upright bass. The guitarist adeptly traversed his fret board. They received a good response from the small crowd. Cypriot thrash metal group Dark Void has announced debut EP "Release the Kraken" will be self-released on April 3rd. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Calling themselves Badass Thrash and describing their influences from Slayer to Vivaldi, Dark Void are indeed a force to be reckoned with, despite their young age. Listening to their massive thrash sound one would find it hard to believe that the band members' average age is just 17!
"Formed in late 2013 as a group of friends getting together just to have fun by playing some of their favorite classic thrash metal songs, they soon after decided to take things a bit more seriously.
"In the Spring of 2014 the band recorded a demo which secured them an opening slot for the June 2014 Sepultura concert in Cyprus and since then Dark Void have been on an endless ride gaining tremendous momentum and establishing a strong fan base with one gig after another. Parallel to this ride, they also worked on their debut EP, which is now finally ready to be unleashed.
"Release the Kraken will be directly available from the band on CD in a limited pressing and the band will be presenting it live on release date at Rock City Bar in Nicosia, Cyprus. The EP which features six tracks, was recorded at Soundwave Studios and it was mastered by Colm O'Rourke. The amazing cover artwork was created by Remedy Art Design." More...
Inverse Records has issued the following announcement about releasing a new single and album from Vetten Äpärät:
"Surfacing from Helsinki, Finland Vetten Äpärät is a six member folk metal band founded in 2006. They consider themselves to be the second generation of Finnish folk metal as they were influenced by the Finnish pioneer bands that came before them. Wanting to take the genre to the next level Vetten Äpärät are currently creating a folk metal lifestyle that goes beyond just playing and recording music.
"Their music is built on the strong base of Nordic melodic metal ranging from skull crushing low tuned sounds to traditional folk melodies. The vocals bring the message of the harsh but beautiful life in the realm of north. Visually their goal is to create an authentic theatre-like concept. The band has found their style from the flora and fauna of the creatures and elements in folklore like dryads.
"In 2011 and 2012 Vetten Äpärät recorded two demos (Demo 2011 and Taru 2012) as a five piece unit. After their original bassist left in the spring of 2013 the band went through changes in their concept. By the end of the year the band got a new bass player and recruited a completely new member for lead guitars which changed Sami's role in the band to just vocals and flutes. With the new line-up Vetten Äpärät recorded their debut single 'Sydäntalven Viha' in 2014.
"The single will be released at 27th of March 2015. Vetten Äpärät is currently preparing it's debut album to be released in Autumn 2015." More...
Swedish trio Monolord return with "Vænir" on April 28th (RidingEasy Records), with the song “We Will Burn” streaming now below, courtesy of Cvlt Nation.
“’We Will Burn’ is pure misanthropy,” said Monolord drummer Esben Willems. “It deals with the disgust for what we humans do to ourselves and to our own planet. No matter how clear the results are to us, we seem to be selectively ignorant to the fact that we are a self-destructive breed and that we are digging each other's graves. It's not a matter of if, but when. We WILL burn and we're heading there at blinding speed. On top of that, mentioning that fact is severely threatening to a lot of people - actually to the vast majority - so any attempt to slow down that man-made apocalypse is beaten down on, hard.”
The "Vænir" track listing is as follows:
1. Cursing The One
2. We Will Burn
3. Nuclear Death
4. Died a Million Times

The creators of cinematic metal are finally back with their most outstanding record: "Prometheus, Symphonia Ignis Divinus," which is set to be released on June 19th (EU), June 22nd (UK), June 30th (US) by Nuclear Blast Records. Pre-order your copy at this location.
The album was composed and produced once again by Luca Turilli, responsible, as always for all the orchestral and choral arrangements. It was recorded and mixed at the Backyard Studios of Sebastian Roeder (Bonfire a.o.) and mastered by Christoph Stickel (Michael Schenker’s Temple of Rock a.o.) at MSM studios.
Seven months of composition, three months of production, over 50 days of mix, two choirs, several special guests, including Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), Dan Lucas (Karo) and David Readman (Pink Cream 69). Including 70 minutes of epic music, sounding cinematic, bombastic and dramatic as never before, the new Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody masterwork will lead the listener to an emotional and memorable journey between quantum gates, parallel dimensions, myths and legends hiding cosmic truths, ancestral secrets and spiritual revelations.
And this time it was not enough for the band to simply sound cinematic. It came the time for Rhapsody to finally “look” cinematic too. Therefore, the new cover artwork and the album booklet, introducing the new cinematic graphic style of the band, were realized by the well-known amazing artist named Stefan “Heile” Heilemann (Epica, Lindemann a.o.).
The digipak version of the album will include the cinematic version of "Thundersteel," the famous song of Riot, performed by the Luca Turilli’s RHAPSODY singer Alessandro Conti in duet with Ralf Scheepers!
The first single, entitled "Rosenkreuz (The Rose And The Cross)" will be released on April 24th, 2015. The long-awaited orchestral ballad "Fantasia Gotica," not included in the full length album, will be released as a bonus song before the same album release.
