Pit Stories: The Mosh Pit Face Off

Tuesday's not just for killer new metal releases, its also when we have musicians from across the world share their favorite Pit Stories from live shows.

This week none other than guitarist Marios Iliopoulos from the Greek melodic death metal outfit Nightrage shared this tale from a Slipknot pit:

As far as I remember the craziest mosh pit that I have seen was at a Slipknot concert in Norway where the singer had to divide the crowd on 2 parts and get them ready to face each other. What comes next was the most insane and brutal, almost brawl mosh pit, that I have experienced to this day. People seemed of course to enjoy it, but at the same time, the sheer aggression of it was amazing. One of the things that always remind us of the power of metal music and the great fun that it can be.

Need a new Nightrage fix in your life? The band's upcoming full-length album "The Puritan" will drop via Despotz Records on April 24th, 2015 and an advance track from the release can be heard below. More...

Scarred By Beauty Issues Band Update

Scarred By Beauty has checked in with the following band update and announcement about writing new material:

"As a lot people are asking what is going on with Scarred by Beauty, here is an update. Since we started Scarred by Beauty back in 2006 both personal and common goals have been achieved. We have released two full-length albums, toured Europe and Asia repeatedly and raised the bar over and over again in order to challenge ourselves. Along the way we have meet people, whom without this would not have been possible.

"The past nine years as a band has shaped the individuals we are today. Looking back we were young, hungry, anything was possible. We wanted to go all the way. We knew the journey in front of us would not be a straight line; we just wanted to overcome the obstacles that occurred and learn from the process. We wanted to write, play and share it with the world.

"One tour led to another. Time went by as a light glimpse and with time came change. Change is inevitable and with change comes opportunities. Alongside Scarred by Beauty we all started working on other projects, educational, professional as personal.

"None of us are done in music, but our priorities have changed which has affected Scarred by Beauty. As a conclusion for the past nine years, we want to get back to basic and embrace what matters the most, having a good time.

"As of now, Daniel and Dennis have started working on new tunes. What this will result in is still to soon to tell, but we will keep you posted! It’s not over yet, - Let us see where our curiosity will take us." More...

Ghoul Announces New Tour Dates

Following a short bout of downtime spent harvesting the dead, the masked mutants in Ghoul will return to the States for another round of live debauchery on this year's Weapons Of Mosh Destruction trek, now in astounding 3-D!

The three-dimensional beatings will commence on May 15th in Denver, Colorado and rampage its way through three weeks' worth of dates including a stop at the Maryland Death Fest in Baltimore.

Ghoul will be joined by California grind miscreants, Phobia, and Ohio scumsmiths, Necrofilth. 3-D glasses not included. As a precursor to the fetid festivities, the band will also contaminate the stage of the Rockbar Theater in San Jose, California as part of Kirk Von Hammett's Fear FestEvil alongside Meshuggah, High On Fire, Agnostic Front and more.

Comments Ghoul's Digestor: "Greetings, numbskulls! It is I, Digestor, announcing that Ghoul is once again coming to your wretched country to cleanse it of the gutter trash that litter your streets and our shows. We are joined in this effort by legendary grinders Phobia, and sleaze masters Nekrofilth: two bands that we will no doubt miss after we are forced to murder and eat them at the end of the tour. And this time we are doing it all in 3-D, mainly because it allows us to charge more at the door. So, accept your fate, prostrate yourself in front of the altar of Ghoul, and die by the manifold murderous machinations of Weapons Of Mosh Destruction 3-D!" More...

Tesseract Cancels Texas Shows

Tesseract has issued the following announcement about dropping off two upcoming Texas appearances:

"It's with the deepest regret that due to reasons outside of our control, Tesseract are no longer able to play the Texas Independent Festival in Austin or The Bomb Factory in Dallas next month.

"A combination of visa issues and unlucky timing have meant that despite our hardest efforts, it is simply not possible for us to get to the USA for these shows. We are totally gutted as we've been looking forward to playing with some of our really good friends, drinking lonestar and eating Texan steak, but most importantly playing to you guys.

"We will however be touring the U.S. later this year with dates in both cities and we may have some new music to play you by then too. Once again, we are very sorry for any disappointment caused, but we'll make it up to you in the fall."

Tesseract will release the CD / DVD package "Odyssey/Scala" in physical and digital formats on May 18th in Europe and May 19th in North America via Century Media Records.

Zaum Announces Spring Tour Dates

Zaum has announced the dates for a Spring tour of Europe & Canada with German bands Earthship (ex-The Ocean) and Jealousy Mountain Duo, respectively.

All dates are available below. Zaum was also recently nominated for the East Coast Music Awards "Loud Recording of the Year" for the “Oracles” album released via Swedish label I Hate.

“We’re very much anticipating crossing this beautiful country for the first time as Zaum, particularly with our German brothers in Jealousy Mountain Duo. We’ll have actually toured Europe twice before trekking across our own country, which is a bit of an oddity," commented front man Kyle McDonald.

He continues, "Our partial intention with this tour is to hopefully open people’s minds a little and maybe break them out of their typical genre borders regardless of who they’re out to see. We love playing on diverse bills so we’re looking forward to playing with so many different incredible bands Canada has to offer – the majority of which don’t get national press or coverage whatsoever. It’s such an amazing thing to discover the killer independent bands in every random city or town. It’s kind of a mind opening reality that there is so much great music out there, 99.9% of which no one will be privy to.” More...

SXSW 2015 Day Four: Converse/Thrasher Death Match

SXSW attendees spent the last day of the festival trying to stay dry. Fortunately, the Gypsy Lounge erected a giant tent to keep the crowd dry. The rain forced the staff running Converse/Thrasher’s Death Match to shut down the skate ramp.

I missed the first two bands, Blasting Concept and American Sharks and came in during instrumental jam band, Arctic. This Southern California band is making a name for their selves playing skate parks and skate festivals. Their guitarist, Figgy looked like Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth and played solos like him too, even though the band sounds nothing like Opeth. He was fun to watch and his solos were excellent but he and his band didn’t bring a lot in terms of riffs. More...

W.A.S.P. Signs To Napalm Records, New LP Announced

Almost six years have passed since the world saw a new studio album from Metal Icons W.A.S.P. That is about to change as W.A.S.P. has signed a new worldwide record deal with Austria's Napalm Records. W.A.S.P. will release their 15th studio album titled Golgotha this August.

"W.A.S.P. are excited to announce they have signed an exclusive recording contract with Napalm Records. We chose Napalm for their personal belief and professional commitment to our career. We're looking forward to years of great success together starting with the release of our upcoming album Golgotha", states W.A.S.P. front man Blackie Lawless.

Vice President of Napalm Records Thomas Caser on W.A.S.P. joining Napalm Records: "It is a true honor to announce this signing today, a dream has come true. With their impressive career and ability to create musical masterpieces W.A.S.P have always been one of the most influential Metal bands out there since the beginning of their career. We are thrilled about the upcoming album Golgotha which will be released this summer!"

W.A.S.P. came out of the Los Angeles Metal scene in 1982 gaining notoriety for their shock rock antics. With a career spanning over 3 decades, 17 world tours, and now their 15th studio album, they are a metal band that has evolved in maturity without having lost their signature sound, unlike many of their peers from their origins. Golgotha will continue down the path that 2007's Dominator and 2009's Babylon started on, both in production style and theme. Six years in the making, Golgotha will undoubtedly lead the listeners on the emotionally epic undertaking that W.A.S.P. has become acclaimed for!

Stay tuned for more info, expected soon. More...
