Nightrage's latest album "The Puritan" just saw official release today, filled with heavy riffs, emotional melodies, and brutal vocal hooks.
Marios Iliopoulos checked in with us to discuss the ins and outs of the album, from writing to recording at Dug Out Productions and on to shooting a series of music videos for the album.
Summing the theme of the new disc succinctly, Marios comments, "No matter what happens, always following your heart in life, in ups and downs, never stop fighting, believing in yourself and on your ideals. Even if the whole world is against you, you need to be able to stand up and fight for yourself."

Iced Earth is set to begin the writing process for the band's 12th studio album. After a short hiatus, (primarily due to founder, chief songwriter, and guitarist Jon Schaffer’s 2nd cervical fusion surgery), the band is planning out its schedule for the remainder of the year.
Iced Earth fans can expect the next album, tentatively entitled "The Judas Goat," and the subsequent touring cycle to begin in early 2016. Schaffer comments on his recovery and the direction of the new album:
"The recovery after this surgery has been more difficult than the first time around in 2000. Although there have been a few setbacks, I am confident that I’m ready to resume my duties in Iced Earth, directing my full attention to the creative process, production, and touring future of the band.
"We are looking forward to songwriting and getting back in the studio. The creative direction of the new album is rife with intense and heavy emotions, as one would expect from an Iced Earth record, as well as a wide variety of lyrical inspirations and themes.
"I am 100% confident that the bond our band has forged in these last several years will shine through in the music. It’s a brotherhood in every way, and the fans will feel that. I couldn’t be more proud of these guys and everything we’ve achieved together.”
Long time drummer Brent Smedley will be returning to the band for the recording and touring of the next album cycle. Smedley had to step down due to personal family reasons in 2013 shortly before the recording of "Plagues of Babylon."
“We are very pleased to have Brent joining us once again; he’s always been a brother and an important part of the Iced Earth legacy,” says Schaffer.
The New York horror-core miscreants from Kissing Candice have announced "Blind Until We Burn," their debut album, is set to be released June 30th on Victory Records.
Vocalist Joey Simpson characterizes the album as “Pretty, ugly, gross, bloody, pissed and heavy.” The result is an amalgamation of serial killer thriller, dark romance. and witchcraft, woven in a world of hallucinating demons.
“Each song on this album is different from the next, we try to write about a little of everything - horror movies, thinking positive, questioning everything from what the government feeds us to religious beliefs. From the people who support us to the people who talk shit about us. There's a little something for everyone,” promises Simpson.
"We want this record to appeal to everyone. There is literally something for all types of listeners to grab on to," guitarist Tommy Sciro adds. “If someone is having a bad day and want to hear something about being positive it will be there. If they want to just scream along cause they’re angry or frustrated and need a release, they can.” More...

Tidemouth began life in 2008 as a screamo/grind beast, in line with bands like Orchid and the Three One G Records roster. A collection of demos and one 2010 EP captured this early phase, and now in 2015 the band reappears, evolved into a raw and blackened version of hardcore punk. The album's track listing is:
3. Black Lung
4. Memories of You
5. Clearing the Forest
6. Sunlight Sonata
7. Abyssal Blessing
8. Pepper Tree

Alternative rock/metal band from Geneva, Ten Seconds Era, is about to released a debut 4 track, self-titled EP on May 20th. An advance track can be heard below, and the following press release was also issued:
"Like feelings in life, Ten Seconds Era is all about nuance and ambivalence: their music takes us to a journey between light and shades, from the sweet side to the bitter side.
"Founded in 2013 in Geneva (Switzerland), Ten Seconds Era continuously reshapes its sound and blends energetic metal carved in stone with soulful mellow lines. With the first EP recorded at Studio Downtone by Drop (Sybreed, Samael) and mastered at Sterling Sound by Ted Jensen (Deftones), the band is about to unleash music on stage to share its universe." Shadow Age's "Silaluk "EP is officially due out May 19th, but now the tracks are available online head of time via a Bandcamp stream. 6131 Records comments:
"Shadow Age emerged from Richmond, Virginia, playing cold, darkly melodic post-punk, and offering an astoundingly cohesive debut EP that owes more to the sounds of Manchester's industrial sprawl than Richmond's southern charms.
"While Shadow Age are certainly indebted to the UK post-punk classics, the band's debut release originates from an even more unlikely place than where they call home. While spending a harsh winter working on a fishing boat in Alaska, singer/guitarst Aaron Tyree was injured. He then spent four harrowing days waiting out an ice storm so that he could be flown out of Dutch Harbor for medial attention. During this time Tyree wrote the title track of Shadow Age's debut EP,
"Taking it's name from the Inuit word for storm, 'Silaluk' is three uncompromisingly dark tracks that swallow the listener in shimmering guitars, pulsating synths, and haunting vocals. Tyree's affecting voice paints a desperate picture that is perfectly layered amongst the sheets of reverb and angular guitar lines. Shadow Age offer more than just intense atmosphere, though. The band is adept at crafting a hook and despite the EP's brooding tone, some of the driving beats found on 'Silaluk' are arguably danceable. With disparate influences converge with stunning cohesion, 'Silaluk' is an impressive debut that hints at Shadow Age's potential." More...

Hades Almighty is back! The band comments about returning with a new front man:
"A lot has been festering in the Hades horde in the last year, and we are now finally able to reveal some details.
"First, we hereby present the mighty Ask Ty as our new musical orator and screamer of blood curling verses. Known as drummer and part time vocalist of bands like Kampfar and Krakow, Ask Ty brings fresh nutrients to the soil of the Horde. We have been working together for the last 6 months, and the harvest has been fruitful.
"Secondly, we hereby announce the first studio release since 2001’s 'The Pulse of Decay.' This will be an EP, titled 'Pyre Era, Black!' which will lead up to the next album released not long after. Both will be released through Dark Essence Records. Prepare for the Dawn of a New Era!" More...

The Sun is shining and Bloodstock is excited to announce seven more of metal’s finest for the UK’s heaviest weekender, including a clutch of bands from the farthest flung corners of the globe.
Friday’s line up will now include extreme prog metal Aussies, Ne Obliviscaris. The band proclaims, “UK, here we come! 2015 is the year we are finally going to reach your shores and we couldn’t be more excited to announce that it will be as part of the enormous Bloodstodck festival. We’re looking forward to playing alongside many of the best and biggest heavy acts from across the world!”
Saturday’s bill sees two bands who’ve jetted in from Indonesia, a hotbed of metal and one of the planet’s most burgeoning heavy music scenes. Burgerkill and Jasad are two of the country’s biggest metal acts, even counting the country’s metal-loving prime minister, Joko Widodo among their fans.
Sunday’s line-up sees a very special solo set from ex-Evile shredsman, Ol Drake to accompany his upcoming solo album, "Old Rake" which is out in June via Earache. Ol comments "I'm very excited to be returning to Bloodstock in a musical capacity. The weekend is fully booked off work (I was going anyway) and we're rehearsing right now. It’ll be a very special show, so don’t miss it. I’ll no doubt be having my fair share of drinks and Jagermeister afterwards and no doubt be returning to work feeling buzzed yet terrible. This is probably the only show I'll be doing to promote the album. Hope to see you there!" More...
With the May 4th release of "Reflection" drawing near, the Miami based duo Cave Of Swimmer has decided to talk about the forthcoming album in more detail. Originally from Venezuela, vocalist and multi instrumentalist G.E. Perez and drummer/percussionist Toro now explain the recording process, lyrical content and influences.
Recorded at Weeks Recording Studio in Coral Gables and Crossbridge Studio in Pinecrest, Florida, all the music for "Reflection" was tracked in a mere 4 days.
"We rehearsed a lot prior to entering the studio to record", G.E. Perez begins. "So when we finally went into it, we were very focused, rehearsed, tight... we recorded basic tracks (drums, rhythm guitars) in only 2 days. We took 2 more days to do solos and vocals. So the whole album was recorded in only 4 days."
Speaking about the writing process in terms of anything being pre-empted or whether the album was written more organically G.E. Perez states that "there are spaces for improvisation in our music… the mid section of 'The Skull' is a great example... 'Reflection', the instrumental, has some improvisation in it as well... Especially from Toro’s part. He played his ass off on this record... In any case, for the most part, we rehearsed and composed in our practice room." Toro adding that the way they write is very organic. "We get together in a small room and just start playing. Whatever comes out... Then we start following the train of thought into wherever the music takes us." More...

Amidst The Withering's "The Dying Of The Light" is due for an official release on April 28th, 2015. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"With the number of Black Metal bands out there increasing by the hour, it's becoming hard to differentiate the leaders from the followers. With a penchant for intelligent and dynamic song writing, Atlanta's Amidst The Withering stands out as a viable force in the genre.
"While shades of a few influential acts may appear throughout the disc (Emperor, Dimmu Borgir), 'The Dying Of The Light' is largely a beast unto itself. Boasting a production quality that ranks right up there with metal's top names and an overall vibe that's deeply rooted in the underground. 'The Dying Of The Light' succeeds for three primary reasons: (1) Good song writing; (2) a natural blend of influences; and (3) an honest delivery." More...
Chicago metal titans Veil Of Maya will release "Matriarch" on May 12th via Sumerian Records. Today, the quartet also announces a late Spring headlining tour with special guests Revocation, Oceano, Gift Giver, and Entheos. The Matriarch Tour begins May 20th in Detroit and VIP pre-order tickets are available now via this link.
When Veil of Maya was recording "Matriarch," the group found itself with a lot of new ideas, but no singer. Enter Lukas Magyar, hailing from the middle of nowhere.
“I’m from this small town in Wisconsin, where there’s not a lot of music and nobody’s really as serious about it as I am,” says Magyar. “I had followed Veil for a few years, and was really impressed by them. When I heard they needed a new singer, I got in touch.” Magyar, however, had never toured before. Or even been on a plane. Not a problem.
“We flew him out, auditioned him and hired him on the spot,” reveals guitarist Marc Okubo. “He was great. He could sing, too, which is something we’d wanted to do for a while. It really opened up some possibilities.”
After making his live debut in front of thousands at last year’s Knotfest, Magyar quickly joined producer Taylor Larson (Periphery, Darkest Hour) and his new band mates (rounded out by Okubo, drummer Sam Applebaum and bassist Dan Hauser) in the studio to record "Matriarch." It’s an album that finds Magyar bringing a new addition to Veil Of Maya’s arsenal; a mix of harsh and clean singing.
“There was controversy when we released the single, ‘Mikasa’” Okubo admits. “But for every 10 kids who complained online, we gained hundreds of new fans. I think ‘Mikasa’ is the most popular song we’ve ever put out.” More...

Uniting members of Exhumed, Possessed, Malevolent Creation and Derketa, the newly formed Gruesome pays homage to death metal's most celebrated founding American acts, Death.
As such, the group's debut full-length, "Savage Land," released earlier this week via Relapse Records, and is a delightfully punishing display of late-'80s/early-'90s Florida-styled death metal that keeps the true sound and spirit of Chuck Schuldiner and Death alive.
In commemoration of its release, today Bloody Disgusting offers up the charmingly gore torn new video for the record's title track. Check it out below. If you like what you hear, you can also stream the rest of the full album at this location. More...
Following a very successful European launch, Candlelight Records confirms May 18th as the North American release date for "The Fathers Of Albion - An Anthology 2007-2012," a four-disc retrospective collection from U.K. black metal band Winterfylleth.
The limited-edition package is a perfect introduction to the band for new fans and fills all the gaps for long-time fans seeking the band’s early and hard to find recorded history. It is available now for pre-order at this location.
Vocalist/guitarist Chris Naughton says, "it is really amazing to be able to do a release such as this. The collection takes stock of who we are as a band and looks backs over what we have accomplished in the last eight years. It features liner notes detailing the stories behind all the albums, a specially remastered version of The Threnody of Triumph, plus bonus material from the original The Ghost Of Heritage sessions. There is also a full disc of material that was on limited release or never been on cd before. And all of this comes packaged with beautiful new artwork created by Simon (Lucas, drums) and Dan (Capp, guitar).” More...
Thy Art Is Murder today reveals the original uncensored cover artwork for upcoming release, "Holy War."
“We wanted 'Holy War' to be our most confronting release to date,” explains guitarist Andy Marsh.
“From the moment the album title was conceived and the lyrics were born we had a distinct vision that the album cover artwork must be equally as confronting, as scary, and as real as what we are about as a band. Unfortunately after circulating our intended album cover around to the distributors and retailers, and after several meetings with the label and those we all work with, we were told we would have to cover the image, or choose a different cover. Not wanting to alter our desired cover in any way shape or form, we opted to contain it within the album packaging and roll with one of the other images from the layout.
“Here it is in all its magnificent glory, a child for every religion that has indoctrinated the young and disadvantaged, and sent them off to war and bloody death without cause or reason. This album is for them.” More...

"Pummelung" is a self-ironic track about overboiling debaucheries with copious amounts of alcohol. The band comments: “Let’s take life as it is, without any enhancements, without putting our heads under pillows, with backs up straight. Just as the track lyrics say - the twilight will reveal which one of us is a true Estonian!”
"Pummelung" was produced by Metsatöll and Samuel Ruotsalainen, recorded by Keijo Koppel and Metsatöll at the Roundsound Studios in Tallinn during September and October of 2013. The sound was mixed in October of 2013 by Keijo Koppel and Marko Atso, who were also responsible for the mastering that was done at the Roundsound Studios in March 2015.

The Nuclear Blast Records thrash pioneers from Testament rode a wave of unparalleled metal through Toronto, Canada on April 15th, 2015 and, per usual, helped to blow the proverbial roof of the Phoenix Concert Theatre.

Spain’s progressive metal outfit Obsidian Kingdom has released a cover of the Nirvana classic "Breed." The cover was recorded at the request of Spain's leading hard rock publication RockZone and can be heard below. This version of "Breed" also appears on the compilation "Bipolar Sessions #2," which commemorates this year's Record Store Day.
Regarding the track, Obsidian Kingdom comments: "As so many kids from the nineties, one of the things that made us break into playing an instrument was receiving a mixtape from the weird guy at school that featured the very best of alternative rock, from Alice In Chain to Tool and from Marilyn Manson to Soundgarden, which had us desperately falling in love with rock music.
"When RockZone offered us to participate in the second edition of their 'Bipolar Sessions', we felt like those kids again, and hurried back to our garage to remove the dust from our old distortion pedals.
"We have always had a huge penchant for Nirvana, especially in their noisiest, and we have chosen 'Breed' because it is the perfect pop song with all the punk rage and teenage angst that we loved so deep back in the day." More...
